Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0001-37652010000300004
Abstract: the sucrose hydrolysis and the preference of consumption of glucose instead of fructose were investigated for the production of 5-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethyl-γ-pyrone (hhmp) in the presence of aspergillus flavus ioc 3974 cultivated in liquid czapeck medium. standardized 0.5g of pellets were transferred as inoculum into twelve conical flasks of 250 ml containing 100 ml of medium with different sucrose concentration, which was kept at 120 rpm and 28"c for 16 days without ph adjustment. aliquots of 500μl of the broth culture were withdrawn at 24 h intervals and analyzed. the major yield of hhmp was 26g l-1 in 120g l-1 of sucrose. at these conditions, a. flavus produced an invertase capable of hydrolyzing 65% of total sucrose concentration in 24h, and an isomerase capable of converting fructose into glucose. in this work, it focused the preference for glucose and, then, of fructose by a. flavus and the strategy used to produce hhmp.
Infinite Symmetric Matrices over Z_2 and the Lights Out Problem

Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: We show, using a hybrid analysis/linear algebra argument, that the diagonal vector of an infinite symmetric matrix over ${\mathbb Z}_2$ is contained in the range of the matrix. We apply this result to an extension, to the countable infinite case, of the Lights Out problem.

Abstract: We describe all isometries of the $q$-numerical radius on the space ${\mathcal K}(\mathcal H)$ of compact operators on a (possibly infinite-dimensional) Hilbert space $\mathcal H$.

American Journal of Plant Sciences (AJPS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ajps.2013.44113
Abstract:

Endophytic fungi were identified from different parts of the medicinal parasitic mistletoe Cladocolea micrantha and from its host Anacardium occidentale, suggesting a strict host-parasite relationship. Eight fungal endophytes were isolated and morphologically characterized. The ascomycete Guignardia mangiferae and strains of Mycelia sterilia were prevalent in the isolations. The unequivocal identification of Guignardia mangiferae at a probabilistic degree close to 100% was carried out by DNA extraction followed by PCR analyses of the ITS-1 and ITS-2 regions and comparison of the genetic sequence with the NCBI database.

Scientia Agricola , 2004,
Abstract: Brazilian fish farms presented an accelerated development during the early 90's, mainly because of the increase in fee-fishing operations. To meet the demand of this market, fish production and supply became excessive and, as a consequence, the number of fee-fishing operations, farmers and the final selling price, decreased. This study analyzes the technical aspects, production cost, profitability and economic viability of the production of piau u (L. macrocephalus) in ponds, based on information from a rural property. Feeding and fingerling costs amount to approximately 47.1% of the total production cost, representing together with the final selling price the most important factor affecting profitability. The payback period was 8.3 years, the liquid present value US$ 291.07, the internal return margin 9%, and the income-outcome ratio was 1.01, which represents an unattractive investment as a projection based on current conditions. The improvement in productive efficiency enhances the economic valuation index, and that the relative magnitude of cost and income are the most important points for the economic viability of the studied farm.

Abstract: background - the high frequency of cutaneous mycosis justify the need to evaluate the possible contribution of in vitro profile of susceptibility to antifungal agents. objective - to evaluate whether there is variability in in vitro susceptibility by filamentous fungi, previously isolated from cutaneous mycosis, to fluconazole, ketoconazole, itraconazole and terbinafine. methods - fungi were isolated and identified by classical methods and the antifungal susceptibility test was performed using the method of broth microdilution, according to a protocol recommended by the clinical laboratory standards institute (clsi), through m38-a document. results - amongst the 80 filamentous fungi identified, trichophyton genus represented 81%. the four examined drugs showed great variation for trichophyton spp and microsporum spp. fusarium spp was resistant to all tested drugs. terbinafine was the most effective drug against the majority of the isolated fungi. conclusion - there was great variability in response profiles to the tested antifungals. the definition of a reference test method will offer higher objectivity for physicians to choose the appropriate therapy.

Semina : Ciências Exatas e Tecnológicas , 2012,
Abstract: The mechanical properties of composites strongly depend on the type of filler-polymeric matrix interface. An interface characterized by a strong bond between the filler and the matrix generally results in better mechanical properties. In this work, polypropylene, PP, was used as polymeric matrix and silica short fibers, SF, which are amorphous biogenic silica, were employed as filler. In order to promote a better filler-matrix interfacial adhesion, these fibers were previously modified with vinyltrimethoxysilane. The composites were prepared by extrusion and injection molding processes and their mechanical properties were evaluated according to tensile testing, ASTM D 268, by means a fractional factorial design (25-1). The studied factors included fiber content in the matrix, fiber surface modification, injection flow and testing rate. The composite cryogenic fractured surfaces were investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy, FESEM. The fiber modification promoted a better fiber-matrix interfacial adhesion, resulting in optimized mechanical properties in relation to the others. In this way, the fiber modification was the most important factor on the mechanical performance of the composites.

Abstract: these are a set of guidelines built by the brazilian association of medical education (abem) and the brazilian society of family and community medicine (sbmfc) with the aim of supporting medical schools in a practical and objective manner, when elaborating pedagogical-political projects on primary health care (phc). the advent of the brazilian national curricular guidelines for medical education, which are approved by the ministry of education in 2001 have since improved the teaching of undergraduate medical students on phc, but there are still wide variations in implementation and quality of it in medical curricula. these guidelines by abem/sbmfc partnership can exert considerable influence on medical curricula by establishing minimum requirements and core competencies for phc in brazil.

Abstract: this is a national literature review that aimed to reflect on the prevention of breast cancer in the elderly woman. this curiosity arose from the observation of demographic transition and of course brazilian feminisation of old age, which imposes specific demands assists and integrals for this population segment. it is emphasized the need to extend the knowledge about the problem, as well as overcoming the negligence in the prevention of this disease, especially in old age. focused are two topics reflective: aging women, health and gender gap and the completeness of assistance to the elderly woman: awareness to release. it is expected with this reflection subsidize quality improvement of the assistance, promote the inclusion of this issue in education and stimulate new research.
