Mori, Maria Elizabeth;Coelho, Vera Lucia Decnop;
Psicologia: Reflex?o e Crítica , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-79722004000200006
Abstract: this study investigated biological, psychological and sociocultural aspects that interact in middle-aged women in order to better understand their feelings and experiences. the advent of the menopause - characterized by the end of the menstruation and by psychic and physical manifestations - imposes fundamental questions that, on the limit, may elicit depressive symptoms. hormonal changes are implicated in the aging process, that point to the finitude. a feeling of not being themselves makes many women experience difficulties with losses inherent to this life period.

A saúde indigenista e os desafios da particip(a??o) indígena
Cruz, Katiane Ribeiro da;Coelho, Elizabeth Maria Beserra;
Saúde e Sociedade , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-12902012000500016
Abstract: this analysis of the indian participation in the indigenist health system takes as empirical reference the process of the tentehar-guajajara (amarante) in the casa de apoio à saúde do índio (casai /pole-base guajajara and in the special indian health district in maranh?o / dsei-ma, from the year 2000 to 2007. the analysis aims to understand whether indian participation is carried out and how it is done in the current model of indigenist health system; it seeks to identify the possibilities of respect to ethnic diversity through indian participation, established in the national policy of attention to the health of the indian people. the research shows that the tentehar-guajajara are continuously trying to participate on all questions related to the indigenist policies, including health policies. despite the official mechanisms of participation in the indigenist health, the indians have created their own strategies in order to be part of this process. the need to set these strategies signals that the conduction of the indigenist health in the dsei-ma contradicts what is determined by the official documents as one of their main objectives: to create the necessary conditions for indian participation.

Abstract: this paper discusses the process of constructing the seminar "sus humanization under discussion" and demonstrates its connection with the current challenges of the brazilian unified health system (sus) and with the propositions of the national humanization policy (pnh). it presents the principles and guidelines of the pnh for sus and its construction process, and discusses the different meanings of the term "humanization". it concludes by indicating the methodological stakes of the seminar, which aimed to promote a wide debate about the humanization of sus by means of circles of conversation. these had the objective of forming an interface with professionals who are engaged in training workers for sus and who are responsible for producing knowledge in the field of healthcare and for training students in this field.
Sistema único de Saúde e políticas públicas: atendimento psicológico à mulher na menopausa no Distrito Federal, Brasil
Mori, Maria Elizabeth;Coelho, Vera Lúcia Decnop;Estrella, Renata da Costa Netto;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2006000900013
Abstract: this study focused on psychological care for middle-aged women in public health services in the federal district (brasilia), brazil. the article discusses women's health and more specifically menopause and its place in brazilian public health policies. the survey confirmed the lack of psychological support for menopausal women. in most cases only outpatient medical care was offered. no psychologist had been designated in any of the units surveyed to assist these women. the study concludes that this period of women's life has failed to receive psychological care in brazil, thus neglecting the principles of the unified national health system. menopausal women deserve comprehensive health care, including attention to conflicts related to biological, psychological, and socio-cultural dimensions of aging, thus contributing to the process of working through maturity.

Goldwasser, Rosane;Fonseca, Vera;Lobo, Maria Stella;Coelho, Alycia;Santos, Elizabeth Gomes dos;Pereira, Sylvia Maria Porto;
Revista Brasileira de Educa??o Médica , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-55022009000100015
Abstract: this article reports on the opinions of applicants admitted to the medical residency programs at the federal university in rio de janeiro (ufrj) (based on those that applied for specialties without prerequisites) in relation to the test model, according to the changes proposed by the 2005 admissions committee. the admissions tests were elaborated on the basis of the national curriculum guidelines for undergraduate studies in medicine and a specific ruling by the national commission on medical residency. a structured questionnaire with closed questions was distributed randomly to the applicants that passed the admissions tests. the majority of the respondents (84.16%) rated each stage of the admissions process as "very good" or "good", with the highest rating going to the practical examination with patients. the authors discuss the necessary healthcare skills that served as the basis for the principal changes in the admissions process. another relevant point was the importance of interdisciplinary integration in the admissions committee. the high approval rate shows that the changes were pertinent, and that the scores attributed to the various stages can help improve the admissions process and serve as an evaluation tool for recent medical school graduates.
The influence of sugars and amino acids on the blood-feeding behaviour, oviposition and longevity of laboratory colony of Lutzomyia longipalpis (Lutz & Neiva, 1912) (Diptera: Psychodidae, Phlebotominae)
Souza, Nataly A.;Andrade-Coelho, Claudia A.;Barbosa, André F.;Vilela, Mauricio L.;Rangel, Elizabeth F.;Deane, Maria P.;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1995, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761995000600017
Abstract: schneider's drosophila medium, a complex amino acid rich medium was tested alone and with seven different sugars for some aspects of the biology of lutzomyia longipalpis. statistically significant results were obtained when sucrose was used alone, indicating that among the sugars tested, this is still the most suitable and practical one for the maintenance of l. longipalpis colonies. however, the addition of schneider's medium to a pool of different sugars, was suggested to be related with the acceptance of the first and second blood meals and to longevity, these being, obviously, quite relevant aspects when tansmission experiments are contemplated.

Abstract: yolk color and egg white (albumen) cleanliness and viscosity are important parameters by which consumers judge the quality of eggs. this study aimed to investigate changes in albumen viscosity during storage of eggs for up to 36 days from two different commercial laying hen strains (carijo barbada and isa brown) fed a diet containing annatto (1.5 and 2.0%) or a synthetic additive without synthetic colorants (control). analyses of humidity, albumen height, ph, viscosity, foam formation, and stability were carried out on eggs. carijo barbada strain had smaller albumen, lower humidity and higher egg white viscosity than isa brown strain; however, with storage, viscosity lowered significantly on both strains. initially, the addition of 2.0% of annatto or a synthetic additive increased viscosity in both strains, but with storage only the control maintained longer viscosity. lower viscosity did not change foam density and stability.
