Jornal Brasileiro de Pneumologia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-37132009000300004
Abstract: objective: this prospective study aimed at investigating predictive factors for compensatory sweating after thoracoscopic sympathectomy. methods: from 2000 to 2002, 80 patients (53 females and 27 males) underwent thoracoscopic sympathectomy to treat hyperhidrosis. patient ages ranged from 12 to 56 years, and the mean post-operative follow-up period was 42.51 ± 5.98 months. patient satisfaction with the results was evaluated through the use of a rating scale. the procedure was performed bilaterally: at the t2 level for facial hyperhidrosis; at the t3-t4 level for axillary hyperhidrosis; and at the t3 level for palmar hyperhidrosis. results: post-operatively, 68 patients (85.0%) presented compensatory sweating, which was classified as mild in 23 (33.8%), moderate in 23 (33.8%) and severe in 22 (32.4%). considering the final surgical results, 70 patients (87.5%) were satisfied with the outcome of the operation, whereas 10 patients (12.5%) were dissatisfied. the level of patient satisfaction varied according to gender, age, body mass index (bmi) and extent of denervation. the compensatory sweating was more severe on the abdomen and back than on the legs. conclusions: although compensatory sweating, which is a common adverse effect of sympathectomy, occurred in the majority of cases, the level of patient satisfaction was high. the best candidates for thoracoscopic sympathectomy are young adult women with a bmi < 24.9 kg/m2.

Barreto, Angela Maria Rabelo Ferreira;
Revista Brasileira de Educa??o , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-24782003000300005
Abstract: being based in two previous studies, this paper tries to indicate the space occupied by children aged zero to six in the federal public policies and programs, especially in the education field, during the second administration of president fernando henrique cardoso. benefiting from the analysis of documents and official administrative registers, initially, this paper brings evidence to how timid and weakly articulated are the federal actions directed towards this age group. in the second section, more emphasis is given to the financing of early childhood education and to the challenges for the implementation of the targets established by the national education plan (pne) for this phase of basic education. estimations on demand for crèches and pre-schools based on the targets of the pne are presented here, as well as the probable scenarios of the expenditures that are necessary for the accomplishment of those targets. those scenarios were drawn according to the calculus of resources foreseen for the education sector, in the different governmental spheres, according to the minimum levels established by the constitution. the analyses stress the need of implementing the principle of the regime of collaboration among the federal government, states and municipalities, foreseen in the constitution of 1988 and in the law of guidelines and basis (ldb) of 1996, in order to allow education to reach.

Creative Education (CE) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2019.104050
Abstract: This experience report aimed to describe a playful classroom activity wherein high school students from a public school participated in the construction of a periodic table. This descriptive study applied a qualitative approach to a case study. To achieve this, a practical activity to construct a periodic table with accessible materials was proposed with the aim of promoting students’ understanding of the periodic table and relating it to their daily lives. The methodology used enabled the students to review the chemical elements of the periodic table and their distribution and classification into different families, thus highlighting the interaction among the student group members. The activity’s content contextualization provided a better understanding of the subject and made it more realistic. Thus, schools must consider the importance of playful activities in student development and propose learning situations that will enable teachers to diversify their teaching methods and make classes more dynamic and differentiated.
