Modernism in secondary school didactic books: the fundamental themes and texts and the education of the schooled reader

Abstract: Based on a cultural perspective, this article presents the results of a bibliographical and documentary research about the Brazilian modernism in contemporary didactic books – the fundamental themes and texts and the education of the schooled reader. It first brings a brief syntheses on research made on the didactic book and its interrelationship with the formation of the schooled reader in Brazil. It then goes on to present a short consideration on what is understood by “modern” and by “modernism”, by examining the institutionalization of the term and by considering European, Latin American and Brazilian vanguardism of the 20thcentury. Finally, it organizes data on the themes and sub themes related to Brazilian modernism presented in four contemporary didactic books used in Portuguese language and literature classes for secondary level students, published by leading editorial groups. It also includes the texts and authors presented (especially those by Oswald de Andrade, Mario de Andrade, Manuel Bandeira and Carlos Drummond de Andrade). To conclude, an analysis on how the set of themes and sub themes, authors and texts circulating in pedagogical books serve in the process of educating schooled readers is presented. It will defend the notion that a less predictable didactic book may perhaps be a form of criticizing anything that reproduces a model of identity – and of education, truth and formation – stagnant and essentialist.

Abstract: the present text intends to discuss the teacher training issues being developed in universities, as well as the meaningful influence in the academic actions brought about by international trends. it stresses that the xxi century greatly emphasized the importance of global context and consequences of "globalization" on education processes in higher education, which can no longer be thought within the limits of national borders. it analyzes the expansion policy of higher education put into practice in the government of president luis inácio lula da silva from a set of available data in the education observatory, specifically in the project teacher training policies and quality of basic education, being developed within the graduation program in education at universidade federal do paraná (ufpr). the data lead to the conclusion that we are still far from achieving the goals established by the national education plan. the 2007 data from the higher education census indicates a gross enrollment ratio of 21.6% of students aged 18 to 24 and a net rate of 12.9% when the target would be to reach 30% by the year 2011. the text also presents the strategic actions that have been developed to minimize the deficits and bring to the debate the challenges presented by scholars and leaders at the world conference on higher education with special emphasis on the role that teacher training takes at the time the higher education paradigm points to the need of going beyond the words.

Abstract: during the last decades, action research has been used in different ways, to different ends, giving rise to a mosaic of theoretical-methodological approaches, inviting us to reflect upon its epistemological essence, as well as upon its possibilities as an investigative praxis. this article promotes reflections about the appropriateness and possibilities of action research as a scientific and pedagogical instrument, hinting at answers to the following questions: should action research be essentially targeted at the participative transformation, where subjects and researchers interact in the production of new knowledge? should it take on a formative-emancipative character? drawing on existing research and studies, the text tries to compose a pedagogical process for action research that tackles the issue of the coherence between the ontology and the epistemology envisaged for the research. it was thus necessary to establish references for the questions: what research do we talk about when we refer to action research? or even, what action do we talk about when we refer to action research? or still, how do research and action come together in the pedagogical practice of action research? the present work highlights the fact that action research, structured according to its generating principles, is an eminently pedagogical research, under the perspective of being the pedagogical exercise, configured as an action that scientificizes the educative practice starting from ethical principles that have in sight the continual formation and emancipation of all subjects of the practice.

Abstract: the text seeks initially to call attention to the different conceptions that underlie the logic presiding over the teaching practices, and that organizing the formative processes. it goes on to propose that the pedagogical knowledges, seen as structuring elements of the professional knowledge, can be the necessary link to produce the dialogues between those two instances, which coexist in the social practice of teacher education, albeit often in an unconnected way. the article then tries to analyze the possibilities of practice as a constitutive and fertilizing element of teacher education. the work highlights the different ideas of practice, observing that there is a practice that simultaneously forms, informs, and transforms the subject and his/her circumstances, and there is a practice that oppresses, distorts and congeals the subject under it, and in this case the subject can lose touch with his/her circumstances. the article shows studies and researches that demonstrate that practice is always wider than initially supposed, and always less intelligible than it was necessary to assume. it proposes to overcome the technicist meaning that currently attends the representation of supervised internships, toward education practices organized into new units of meaning that contribute to shape and sustain a new teacher professional identity fit to play a role in contemporary public schools.

Abstract: the federal government disposes about the administration of public forests. the florests classified as public will be divided and granted to the private initiative. the principle defended in the law is that the concession can to prevent the degradation and devastation of the forest and, at the same time, make possible the sustainable administration, increase the income and to improve life quality of the local populations. in that context, the goal of this article is to reexamine two theoretical approaches. first, that the only option to public administration is the private administration. second, to analyze the vision that decentralization will carry to the better sustained administration of the forest resources. for that, it made a bibliographical review about the theoretical origin of the discussion public versus private as well as the results of several international experiences about decentralization. the result is that concession the forest resources to private sector is not only alternative existent and there are others differents arrangements of sustainable exploration of the forest resources. finally, the decentralization of the administration does not guarantee the sustainability of the forest resources.

Abstract: Existem várias abordagens sobre a agricultura paranaense dos anos 1970-80, a maior parte centrada nos impactos sociais, econ micos e ambientais e na discuss o do papel do Estado e do mercado. Este artigo apresenta uma experiência diferente que engloba agentes sociais locais que, atingidos pelos resultados precários – ambientais e econ micos – das políticas públicas estaduais implementadas, realizaram arranjos sociais interessantes e aut nomos. A intera o entre esses agentes permitiu o aprendizado coletivo, que, por sua vez, resultou em avan os técnicos e redirecionamentos das próprias políticas estaduais de minimiza o dos impactos ambientais.

Abstract: this article deals with the proposal for social inclusion of children and teenagers, having education as the main changing agent, aiming to give them a desirable level of human development. in order to understand the current situation, we present an abbreviated analysis of the legislation related to brazilian children and teenagers, as well as indicators of health and education, based on data from the ministry of health, education, pnad, ibge, and the reality of the relationship education and work. we propose the creation of poles, focusing mostly schools, health posts and social assistance posts already existent, that should be defined in a democratic socio-political process, involving government and society. the protagonists of the actions should be professionals of well-known competence to develop the proposal, including the functions of monitoring, following-up and evaluating needed for the best efficiency and effectiveness of their actions and to whom physical and financial working conditions, compatible with their functions, should be granted as well as the possibility of professional promotion.

Abstract: as a result of the advances in glucose monitoring and insulin administration, there has been a dramatic improvement in the outcomes of pregnancy in diabetic women over the past decades. pregnancy in type 1 diabetic women is associated with an increase in risk both to the fetus and to the mother. the normalization of blood glucose in order to prevent congenital anomalies and spontaneous abortions is considered a priority. as the pregnancy progress, the mother is at an increased risk for hypoglycemia or diabetic ketoacidosis. later in the pregnancy, she is at risk of accelerated retinopathy, pregnancy-induced hypertension and preeclampsia-eclampsia, urinary tract infection, and polyhydramnios. at the end of pregnancy, there is also an increased risk of macrosomia and sudden death of the fetus in uterus. all of these complications can be prevented or, at least, minimized with careful planning of the pregnancy and intensive tight glucose control.
