Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02762007005000118
Abstract: triatoma mexicana was described by herrich-schaeffer in 1848. in 1940, a male specimen was found in hidalgo. in 1970, this species was recorded in the state of queretaro. later, it was registered in guanajuato and san luis potosi. in the present paper we performed an investigation in 545 dwellings from three counties in the state of guanajuato, mexico, from march 2003 to may 2004. the search and capture of triatomines were seasonally performed indoors and outdoors. entomological indexes were calculated. the risk and no risk relations between triatomine presence and housing construction materials were analyzed. fourteen triatomines were collected indoors and 151 outdoors. the vectors were collected in houses built with either risky and non-risky materials. adults go indoors but do not settle there, hence, no relationship was found between the building materials and infestation of houses. conventional interventions like house improvement or insecticide spraying are not efficient for the control of t. mexicana, because its developmental cycle is accomplished outdoors in the area surrounding the houses.

Abstract: three different interventions to control triatoma dimidiata in the state of veracruz were implemented: x-1 = whole dwelling spraying, x-2 = middle wall spraying, x-3 = household cleaning. cyfluthrin was sprayed 3 times with 8 month intervals. after each spraying, insects were collected and sent to the laboratory to be recorded and to determine genus and species of the adult triatomine bugs, and nymphs were counted. trypanosoma cruzi presence was determined. with x-1, the infestation, colonization, and natural infection indexes were reduced to 0% in the 3 localities, with respect to t0. with x-2, the infestation index was reduced to 10% at t3 in 3 localities; the colonization index was reduced to 0% in only 1 locality at t3, and the natural infection index was reduced to 0% at t3. with x-3 the 3 indexes were not effectively reduced but they decreased with respect to the baseline study. insecticide application to the whole dwelling is a more efficient intervention than its application to only the lower half of the walls and to the cleaning of houses.

Prolegómenos. Derechos y Valores , 2009,

Abstract: this paper studies the quantitative use of technological resources by teachers. it analyzes their pedagogical functionality in education courses both in spain and portugal. its methodological approach is based on case studies and an analysis of the situation of the study object in both countries. this transverse research combines extensive and intensive studies. a questionnaire was used to gather data concerning students and discussion groups among teachers were created. one of its conclusions is that, both in spain and portugal, teachers lecturing in education undergraduate courses still make more use of the analogical, traditional technological resources than of the new digital advances. the educational functions more commonly applied consist of exemplifying teaching and learning models, motivating, transmitting information and structuring content.
El efecto Mateo en ni?os con Dificultades Específicas de Aprendizaje de las Matemáticas
Blanco Pérez,Margarita; Bermejo,Vicente;
Escritos de Psicología (Internet) , 2009,
Abstract: previous research suggests that learning difficulties in reading and mathematics are highly related. this work tried to test in children if the presence of specific learning difficulties in mathematics (ldm) was related to poor results in intellectual quotient (iq) tests. also, it is tested if differences in iq are related to different mathematical performances. therefore, the iqs of 12 ldm children enrolled in the first year of primary school were compared with the iqs of 20 ldm children enrolled in the third year of primary school. the iqs of ldm children were compared with the iqs of two non- ldm groups of the same cohorts. among other results, it was observed that the iqs of the oldest ldm children were significantly lower than these of the youngest children, while no differences were found among non- ldm children. furthermore, the presence of a high or low iq did not always imply an equally high or low mathematical performance in the scholars.

Triatoma mexicana was originally described in 1848 by Herrich-Schaeffer, naming Conorhinus mexicanus Herrich-Schaeffer. Its finding is currently registered in the States of Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Querétaro, and San Luis Potosí. Studies about the spatial distribution, the entomological indices, it presence indoor an outdoor in houses, it biology and risk of transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi Chagas show that it is an important species from the point of view of public health. With the purpose of extending the biological knowledge of this species, the present study is the description of the female as well as the external male genitalia, in specimens captured in the State of Guanajuato.
Body Image Anxiety on University Students (Differences between Men and Women)  [PDF]

Open Journal of Medical Psychology (OJMP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojmp.2014.35036
Abstract: The aim of this research lies on comparing anxiety body image profiles between male and female university students. A total sample of 2089 freshmen—902 women and 1187 men is from the different degrees offered by the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, with an average age of 18.23 ± 0.74 years. The approach used in the research is part of a quantitative design with a survey description. The differences found between men and women regarding their own perception of anxiety suggest that when designing any kind of intervention that aims at the decreasingly perceived anxiety, the gender variable will have to be taken into account. Future investigations should respond to these discoveries in larger samples.
Attitudes towards treatment among patients suffering from sleep disorders. A Latin American survey

BMC Family Practice , 2003, DOI: 10.1186/1471-2296-4-17
Abstract: The results of a cross-sectional community-based multinational survey in three major Latin American urban areas, i.e. Buenos Aires, Mexico City and Sao Paulo, are reported. Two-hundred subjects suffering sleep disturbances and 100 non-sufferers were selected from the general population in each city (total number: 600 sufferers vs. 300 non-sufferers). A structured interview was conducted, sleep characteristics, feelings about sleep disturbances and strategies to cope with those problems being recorded. Data were analyzed by employing either t-test or analysis of variance (ANOVA) to the Z-transformed proportions.22.7 ± 3.5 % (mean ± SEM) of subjects reported to suffer from sleep disturbances every night. About 3 out of 4 (74.2 ± 2.0 %) considered their disorder as mild and were not very concerned about it. Only 31 ± 2 % of sufferers reported to have sought for medical help. Although 45 ± 2 % of sufferers reported frequent daily sleepiness, trouble to remember things, irritability and headaches, they did not seek for medical assistance. Among those patients who saw a physician with complaints different from sleep difficulties only 1 out of 3 (33 ± 2 % of patients) were asked about quality of their sleep by the incumbent practitioner. Strategies of patients to cope with sleep problems included specific behaviors (taking a warm bath, reading or watching TV) (44 ± 1.6 %), taking herbal beverages (17 ± 1.2 %) or taking sleeping pills (10 ± 1.1 %). Benzodiazepines were consumed by 3 ± 0.6 % of sufferers.Public educational campaigns on the consequences of sleep disorders and an adequate training of physicians in sleep medicine are needed to educate both the public and the general practitioners about sleep disorders.Sleep disorders are very frequent among general population. Surveys of outpatients visiting primary care centers indicate that the prevalence of sleep disturbances varies between 25 and 45 % [1-3]. In 66 % of sufferers sleep problems occur almost every night [4].
