D-cycloserine in Prelimbic Cortex Reverses Scopolamine-Induced Deficits in Olfactory Memory in Rats

PLOS ONE , 2013, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0070584
Abstract: A significant interaction between N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) and muscarinic receptors has been suggested in the modulation of learning and memory processes. The present study further investigates this issue and explores whether d-cycloserine (DCS), a partial agonist at the glycine binding site of the NMDA receptors that has been regarded as a cognitive enhancer, would reverse scopolamine (SCOP)-induced amnesia in two olfactory learning tasks when administered into the prelimbic cortex (PLC). Thus, in experiment 1, DCS (10 μg/site) was infused prior to acquisition of odor discrimination (ODT) and social transmission of food preference (STFP), which have been previously characterized as paradigms sensitive to PLC muscarinic blockade. Immediately after learning such tasks, SCOP was injected (20 μg/site) and the effects of both drugs (alone and combined) were tested in 24-h retention tests. To assess whether DCS effects may depend on the difficulty of the task, in the STFP the rats expressed their food preference either in a standard two-choice test (experiment 1) or a more challenging three-choice test (experiment 2). The results showed that bilateral intra-PLC infusions of SCOP markedly disrupted the ODT and STFP memory tests. Additionally, infusions of DCS alone into the PLC enhanced ODT but not STFP retention. However, the DCS treatment reversed SCOP-induced memory deficits in both tasks, and this effect seemed more apparent in ODT and 3-choice STFP. Such results support the interaction between the glutamatergic and the cholinergic systems in the PLC in such a way that positive modulation of the NMDA receptor/channel, through activation of the glycine binding site, may compensate dysfunction of muscarinic neurotransmission involved in stimulus-reward and relational learning tasks.
To translate, to interpret, to write
Martínez,Margarita;
Sociedad (Buenos Aires) , 2006,
Abstract: through a philosophical revision of concepts pertaining to the fields of hermeneutics and translation, this text brings to question the logic that rules the production of the contemporary essay. its central hypothesis posits that in our days the hypostasis of the essay is a translation from one language into that same language, and is divided into two sections. the former establishes a connection between translation and interpretation, while the latter focuses on the relation between interpreting an essay and producing one. the third basal connection explored in this text deals with translating and writing in the same language and serves as metadiscourse on the other two. this threefold pattern hinges in two directions, for the current essay is questioned in its form and its background, under a specular dynamics in which whatever is said can be refuted by the very format of the essay; of this essay.
Abstract: The issue of the alleged relation between food additivea and sueroee ingestion in the exacerbation of hyperkinetic behavíor in cbildren il reviewed. The emphasis throughout it is on clinical controlled studiea in which a variety of methodological safeguards have been used, Resultl suggest that although the correlational studies tend lo support a positive relationship between such substances and hiperactivity, the more Itringentstudies (placebo controlled) yield conflicting and many negative results. Even in those studies in which the investigators confirmed a relationship, it was usually weak and inconsistent across subjects. Different explanatíons for these results are díscussed and suggestions for future research are offered
A Escola de Veterinaria na Universidade de Santiago
Barral Martínez, Margarita
Cuadernos de Estudios Gallegos , 2002,
Abstract: Although Eugenio Montero Ríos was one of the big onQS primates of the system of dominance by the local boss developed during the stage of the Restoration, his patronage paper in Santiago's city and of patronage in the University of Santiago had a considerable importance, an unknown topic, or even forgotten by all the negative connotations with those that commonly and in a simplistic way they associate to the term cacique. The University of Santiago grew beside the protection that Montero lent him since representative of this district had left in 1886 and his strong influence in the central Government from Madrid it allowed him to reach momentous concessions for this institution, like it has been the case of the School of Veterinary Science.
Martínez,Margarita A. C.;
Revista iberoamericana de ciencia tecnolog?-a y sociedad , 2010,
Abstract: the purpose of this article is to discuss the passage from the pre-modern technique to the modern technique by using the special concept of artifice presented by peter sloterdijk in his text "the vexation through machines". this notion of artifice will be connected with some of gilbert simondon's considerations regarding the technical object. we will consider, such as sloterdijk does, which are the consequences of an outpost of the realm of machines in the constitution of the subjectivity and in the metamorphosis of the psyché. the questions that guide the work is why the humanist attitude that opposes man to machine since the renaissance became strong and if it should be considered, as simondon does, that this process is the expression of an ontological incomprehension of origins and functions of the technical object.

Margarita A. C. Martínez
The purpose of this article is to discuss the passage from the pre-modern technique to the modern technique by using the special concept of artifice presented by Peter Sloterdijk in his text "The vexation through machines".

Abstract: background: tuberculosis in prisons is a serious public health problem. in those penitentiaries with a high prevalence of co-infection by m. tuberculosis and hiv infection, the treatment of the tubercular infection can be an important tool for prevention and control. ascertaining the prevalence of tubercular infection, the access and adherence to the treatment of tubercular infection in a prison population without a history of treatment of tubercular disease or infection could be of great interest in order to assess the efficacy of this measure. methods: a cross study was made of the population admitted at 28 june 1999 in a penitentiary with a programme of prevention and control of tuberculosis, based on the directly observed therapy (dot) of the patients, on early diagnosis and the treatment of the tubercular infection. the treatment of the tubercular infection was prescribed following individualised medical consultation, reaching an agreement with the patient as to the modality of treatment (dot, daily or twice-weekly check-up). the clinical histories of the patients were reviewed in order to determine the prevalence of patients infected by m. tuberculosis, of those who had completed treatment and of those who were still undergoing treatment of tubercular infection. the eidus-hamilton test was performed in the case of patients under treatment for tubercular infection in order to evaluate compliance. results: of the 219 inmates, 127 (58 %) presented criteria of tubercular infection. treatment of the tubercular infection was indicated in 113 people of whom 29 refused (25.7 %). of the 84 patients who initiated treatment for their tubercular infection, 22 (26.2 %) abandoned it, 39 (46.4 %) had finalised the treatment, and 23 (27.4 %) were still undergoing treatment. of the latter, 95.7 % showed positive to the eidus-hamilton test. 48% of those infected by m. tuberculosis, either had finalised or were undergoing the treatment against tubercular infection correctly. con
