Revista Saúde.Com , 2011,
Abstract: This article aims to identify and discuss the factors related to non-adherence to antihypertensive therapy. It is a literature search that was to switch the chronological period from 1975 to2009. We used primary source of data available in databases Bireme, sites of the Brazilian Society of Hypertension and the Brazilian Society of Cardiology. The results show that many factors may predispose for non-compliance should be analyzed and addressed by patients, health professionals and institutions. Among these may be highlighted factors related to disease and treatment, such as absence of symptoms and side effects, difficulties in access to medicines and services, socio-demographic characteristics, such as illiteracy and low level of knowledge about health-related functional disability as cognitive deficits, visual and auditory, psychological profile of the patient and locus of control, factors related to the belief, lifestyle and culture, relational factors as inadequate social support, family and institutional and professional relationship of health-ill patient. Studies of adherence may contribute significantly to both the planning and organization of health and to reorient care practices from the perspective of rational use of medicines by the elderly.

Ferreira, Maria Margarida da Silva Reis dos Santos;Torgal, Maria Constan?a Leite de Freitas Paúl Reis;
Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da USP , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0080-62342011000300006
Abstract: recent studies have shown that adolescents have initiated their sex lives earlier and earlier, without, however, receiving consistent sex education. the objectives of this study were to analyze the sexual behavior of adolescent high school students and identify the habits of sexual health in sexually active adolescent high school students. an exploratory study was conducted with 680 adolescents, whose age ranged between 15 and 19 years. results showed that most participants had not initiated their sex life; boys are those who most report having had sexual relations; not all the interviewed adolescents used condoms during sex; most adolescents do not practice sexual health surveillance. it is important for sexually active adolescents to receive health care and counseling. health institutions and their workers must be proactive in trying to approach adolescents.

Revista de Nutri??o , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-52732005000400003
Abstract: objective: to evaluate the extent of vitamin a deficiency among preschool children attending public day care centres in recife, state of pernambuco, brazil. methods: a cross-sectional survey involving 311 under 5-year-old children of both sexes, randomly selected, and assessed by biochemical (serum retinol), dietetic (vitamin a rich-food consumption) and anthropometric indicators (weight-for-height, weight-for-age and height-for-age). results: the prevalence of hyporetinolemia (serum retinol <0.70μmol/l) was 7.0%, which characterizes the vitamin a deficiency as a mild public health problem, according to world health organization criteria. approximately 78.0% of the children met the recommendation for vitamin a rich-food consumption proposed by the dietary reference intakes, 2001. the serum retinol levels and vitamin a rich-food intake were homogeneously distributed between both genders. however, children between 12 and 48 months old were liable to have lower vitamin a rich-food intakes as compared to the other age groups (p<0.05). the prevalence of underweight was 7.5%, stunting 8.1% and acute malnutrition 1.8%. vitamin a deficiency showed no correlation with protein-energy malnutrition (p>0.05). vitamin a rich-food intake showed low sensitivity (43.0%) and a very low positive predictive value (6.8%) as a screening diagnostic test for vitamin a deficiency. conclusion: the identification of vulnerable population groups, and the selection of reliable indicators for the assessment of vitamin a status, are both essential for the diagnosis and planning aimed at preventing and controlling vitamin a deficiency.
Fluxo de material fragmentado em passagem de minério nas minas subterraneas: a prática corrente
Silva, José Margarida da;Gripp, Maria de Fátima Andrade;
Rem: Revista Escola de Minas , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0370-44672006000300009
Abstract: this article shows some results of a doctorate thesis about the gravity flow of bulk material in an underground mine. it describes the practices in brazilian mines and in other countries, focusing on accident data, preventive and corrective actions, in mining operations that use gravity flow to transport fragmented material from the excavation of ore passes in several mining operations, such as in underground mining using cut and fill methods and caving methods.

Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-35982000000100005
Abstract: abstract - a field experiment was conducted to determine the effect of acid soil correction, on the control of the sapé (imperata brasiliensis), a grass type weed of pasture. a molasses grass (melinis minutiflora) pasture in a red-yellow latosol, having a high proportion of "sapé" was used. treatments consisted of five levels of dolomite limestone (0, 1, 2, 4 and 6 t/ha) incorporated by hand using a garden tool to the top 20 cm of soil following a mechanical tillage of the plots (disking). an additional treatment without disking and without lime was adopted. the experimental design was randomized blocks with four replications. during the 33 months of the experimental period, three harvests and two soil samplings were performed. there were no effects of lime rates on the dry matter yield of both sapé and the other species (molasses grass, brachiaria decumbens and broad leaf weeds), despite of the changes in the soil chemical characteristics. the correction of acid soils, when associated with the correction of main nutritional deficiencies, can control the weed "sapé" by improving the forage growth.
