Controle genético da qualidade da vagem em cruzamento de feij?o-vagem e feij?o-comum
Mariguele, Keny Henrique;Maluf, Wilson Roberto;Gomes, Luiz Ant?nio Augusto;Lopes, Marcus José Concei??o;Melo, Osvander David de;
Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2008000100007
Abstract: the objective of this work was to study the main gene actions involved in phenotypic expression of pod quality in a cross between snap beans and common bean. two segregating populations (f2 and f2:3) and the parental lines were evaluated. the snap bean cultivar conquista rasteiro was used as the female parent, and the common bean line h126 as the male parent. pod length, between-suture width, valve width, pod shape, and percentage of pod fiber were evaluated. non-additive gene effects were important for all traits evaluated. even though genetic effects were higher than the environmental ones for pod length, pod shape, and percentage of pod fiber, efficiency of selection in individual plants tended to be low in early segregating generations, as demonstrated by the low narrow-sense heritabilities for most traits, except for pod shape. at family level, genetic effects were higher than the environmental ones for all evaluated traits, and most traits presented high narrow-sense heritabilities, indicating high selection efficiency at family level in early segregating generations for all traits, except for pod length and percentage of fiber.

Abstract: aureobasidium pullulans is a causal agent of phaeohyphomycosis, occasionally found in men and animals. as an agent of different opportunistic fungal processes, it may cause fungemia, systemic infections and abscesses in different viscera. this paper aims to report a case of a patient with infection of the lymphatic system by a. pullulans. a 23-year-old patient being treated for erythema nodosum leprosum presented a 60-day complaint of daily fever, hoarseness, odynophagia and weight loss. laboratory tests showed pancytopenia with severe neutropenia, cervical adenomegaly and solid contrast uptake lesion in the oropharyngeal region. due to neutropenia and sepsis the patient was initially treated with cefepime and vancomycin, but there was no clinical improvement. lymph node puncture-aspiration showed yeast-form fungus identified as a. pullulans by sequencing its region. the patient was treated with amphotericin b deoxycholate, leading to complete recovery of bone marrow function and regression of adenomegaly and the oropharyngeal lesion.
Massais, mulatas, meretrizes: imagens da sexualidade feminina no Rio de Janeiro dos anos 1920
Gomes, Tiago de Melo;
Cadernos Pagu , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-83332004000200005
Abstract: the 1920s were characterized in the cultural context by male anxieties: elite and middle-class men seemed to be seriously concerned about an "invasion" of the public space by women. this article studies the response of these men to the phenomena, emphasizing especially the extreme sexualization attributed by these contemporaries to young women and the comparisons made of their behaviors and the behavior of hookers, afro-brazilian and "savage" women.
Negros contando (e fazendo) sua história: alguns significados da trajetória da Companhia Negra de Revistas (1926)
Gomes, Tiago de Melo;
Estudos Afro-Asiáticos , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-546X2001000100003
Abstract: the companhia negra de revistas was founded in the second half of 1926, and included renowned musicians and artists in rio de janeiro and s?o paulo. the trajectory of the company is of major importance to historians interested in consolidating an image of brazil that stresses the "mestizo" aspects of the nation. in the first place, it shows the participation of negroes and is an instrument for acknowledging them as a national symbol since the shows produced by the company valorized black culture as a national culture, as against considering it an activity performed only by white intellectuals. secondly, it also shows the transnational aspect of valorizing negro culture in the 1920s. proof of this is that during that same period negro culture(s) enjoyed great success in paris, and afro-americans gave shows throughout those years to the brazilian public as members of french theater companies. the companhia negra de revistas is thus an excellent starting point for rethinking a number of questions on ethnics, nationality, transnational cultural influences, popular participation in founding a "national theater", citizenship , and so forth.
Problemas no paraíso: a democracia racial brasileira frente à imigra??o afro-americana (1921)
Gomes, Tiago de Melo;
Estudos Afro-Asiáticos , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-546X2003000200005
Abstract: around 1921 brazil heard the news that a group of african-americans intended to emigrate to this country to found a colony in the mato grosso state. this fact provoked great reactions in the chamber of deputies, in the press and on the streets and also caused a big discussion about this emigration's convenience, having the idea - now totally spread - that in brazil there was no racial prejudice. accompanying the debate that followed, this article intends to point out the inner parts of the racial democracy idea during the post-war period, from whitening ideology ideas to equality versions, which aspired to a racial democracy.
