Abstract: this cross-sectional study was performed with 147 children with a medical diagnosis of asthma admitted to a public children's hospital in fortaleza, cerará (ce). the objective of the study was to analyze the accuracy of the defining characteristics of the nursing diagnosis "ineffective airway clearance" in children with asthma. a physical examination checklist was used for data collection. the most frequent defining characteristics were adventitious respiratory sounds (82.3%), dyspnea (55.8%), and changes in respiratory rate (50.3%). the nursing diagnosis "ineffective airway clearance" was present in 55.8% of the sample. the defining characteristic with the greatest sensitivity was "adventitious respiratory sounds". the specific characteristic for this diagnosis was "wide eyed". regarding the predictive values, adventitious respiratory sounds showed a high negative predictive value. in conclusion, studies that contribute to defining the most common defining characteristics for a particular population should be encouraged, as they serve as a guide for the practice of nursing.

Abstract: Estudio transversal realizado con 147 ni os asmáticos ingresados en un hospital público de Fortaleza-CE, Brasil. Ha sido desarrollado con el objetivo de analizar la efectividad de las características definitorias del diagnóstico de enfermería "limpieza ineficaz de las vías aéreas" en ni os asmáticos. Se utilizó un guión de examen físico para recopilar los datos. Las características definitorias más frecuentes fueron ruidos respiratorios agregados (82,3%), disnea (55,8%) y cambio en la frecuencia respiratoria (50,3%). El diagnóstico de enfermería: "limpieza ineficaz de las vías aéreas" estuvo presente en el 55,8% de la muestra. La característica definitoria para este diagnóstico fueron los "ruidos respiratorios agregados". La característica específica ha sido "ojos muy abiertos". Con relación a los valores predictivos, los ruidos respiratorios agregados presentaron un alto valor predictivo negativo. Se llegó a la conclusión de que los estudios que contribuyen a configurar el perfil de las características definitorias más comunes a una población particular deben ser fomentados, pues sirven de guía para la práctica de enfermería.

Abstract: objective: to evaluate an educational material used as a didactic resource to support the teaching of cardiovascular assessment. methodology: the educational material was analyzed by experts in cardiovascular nursing and applied to 30 nursing students at the federal university of ceara (brazil) in the period january - june of 2006. to analyze the internal consistency cronbach alpha coefficient was calculated. to analyze the student?s performance the scores of a test that evaluated the taught topic applied before and after the intervention were compared. results: all the experts highlighted that the game features are consistent, is interactive, coherent, has pedagogic validity and allowed the student to participate in his learning process. the direffence in the means of the pre and post intervension assessment was statistically significant. conclusion: the validity and applicability of the game as a pedagogic resource was confirmed.

Abstract: Objetivo: evaluar un material educativo utilizado como recurso didáctico para apoyo a la ense anza de la valoración cardiovascular. Metodología: el material educativo fue analizado por enfermeros expertos en cardiovascular y se aplicó a 30 estudiantes de enfermería de la Universidad Federal del Ceará (Brasil), en el período de enero a junio de 2006. Para el análisis de la consistencia interna fue calculado el coeficiente alfa de Cronbach. Para estudiar el rendimiento de los alumnos, se compararon los puntajes de una prueba que evaluaba el tema ense ado, antes y después de la intervención. Resultados: todos los expertos destacaron que el juego presenta consonancia, interactividad, coherencia, validez pedagógica y que motiva al alumno a participar en su proceso de aprendizaje. La diferencia de las medias de las evaluaciones pre y post intervención fue estadísticamente significativa. Conclusión: Se confirmó la validez y aplicabilidad del uso del juego como recurso pedagógico. Abstract: the objective of this study was to analyze the knowledge on nursing interventions for hospitalized stroke patients. an integrative literature review was performed by accessing five online databases, in september 2009. the descriptors used in the search were nursing care and stoke, in portuguese, english and spanish. a total 223 articles were found, and 12 were selected. it was found in the articles that there was a greater number of clinical nursing interventions, followed by educational, managerial and research interventions. clinical interventions are more related to the biological aspects of patients. as to the educational interventions, the articles point at the fundamental role of nurses, as well as that of relatives and caregivers. the main managerial intervention was the coordination of health care. as for research interventions, only one was identified and described as the development and improvement of health care practice through clinical evidence.

Abstract: this article had for objective to get students' and teacher's opinions about "vital signals" software. the investigation was developed in the nursing department of the federal university of ceará. the sample population was a total of 6 students and 3 teachers, who were submitted to an interview after using the software. the interviews generated 10 categories, which were separated in two themes: features which stimulated the use of the "vital signals" software; and software educationally correct. the results showed that the teachers valued the correction of the content, while the students focused more on the dynamics of the program.

Abstract: objective: we aimed to analyze the psychosocial adaptation level of mothers with down?s syndrome children. methodology: the sampling was composed by all mothers of children carriers of down?s syndrome, assisted in a treatment and precocious stimulation?s nucleus that accepted. the data were organized following thematic analysis technique. the adaptation level was classified: integrated (only positive adaptation indicators), compensatory (positive adaptation indicators and adaptation common problems) and compromised (only adaptation common problems). results and discussion: in the self-concept mode, there were 12 cases of compensatory adaptation level, one of integrated level and none committed level. in the role function mode 3 interviewees reached commited level, in 10 cases integrated level and none of compensatory level. in the interdependence mode 10 participants existed attained integrated level, 3 participants showed compensatory level, and any case of commited level of adaptation was registered. conclusions: we verify that all the participants were living a general compensatory adaptation level, whereas any case of completely integrated or commited level was observed.

Abstract: a descriptive study with a qualitative analysis was conducted at a service of early treatment and stimulation from a brazilian university to assess the positive indicators of psychosocial adaptation of mothers of children with down's syndrome. the sample was composed of 13 mothers of children carriers of this syndrome. the behaviors identified were coded and collected according to the indicators of positive adaptation of roy's adaptation model. the main answers of positive adaptation found were as follows: good functioning of self-esteem, utilization of effective facing strategies, interest in increasing the health level, and the family and the spouse as fundamental support systems. it was concluded that mothers, as well as the children carriers of down's syndrome, should be considered as clients needing company, guidance and knowledge imparted by medical and nursing professionals.

Abstract: in the treatment of arterial hypertension, the physical exercises have been appointed like one of main no pharmacological measures. the study aim to analyze the concept of physical exercise in patients with hypertension and identify the possible critical attributes and the antecedents and consequent factors. the study followed the conceptual analysis methodology and of the integrative revision of scientific articles about the thematic of the study. whereby critical attributes were identified aspects related time, frequency, duration and intensity of physical exercise. the antecedents found were: advice/education, motivation, goals development from transtheoretical model, self-efficacy and support groups. on top of consequents general health benefits were evidenced like physiological, psychosocial, cognitive and behavioral benefits. the conceptual analyze allowance the quality assistance centered in the patient with hypertension with purpose to disease control and complications prevention.
Análise dos fatores que interferem no controle da press o arterial de pessoas acompanhadas numa unidade básica de aten o à saúde da família

Abstract: Estudio cuantitativo del tipo transversal de carácter exploratorio-descriptivo que objetivó analizar los factores que influyen en el control de la presión arterial en pacientes registrados y acompa ados en una unidad básica de atención a la salud de la familia. Un intervalo de confianza de 95% y un error muestral de 10% fue delimitado. La muestra se estableció con 85 individuos y fueron aplicadas pruebas del chi-cuadrado para la comprobación de la asociación entre las variables. Para la significación estadística se adoptó un nivel de 5% (a = 0,05). Del total de la muestra un 78,8% presentaron la presión arriba del límite normal. Fueron encontradas frecuencias altas en las variables sintomatología, uso de sal y uso de café. La baja frecuencia en la práctica del ejercicio físico fue descubierta. El uso de terapias alternativas no demostró asociación estadísticamente significativa con los valores de la presión arterial. Apenas la variable grupo etario presentó asociación estadísticamente significativa (p = 0,0476)
