Associa??o do polimorfismo do gene da enzima conversora da angiotensina com dados ecocardiográficos em jovens normotensos filhos de hipertensos

Abstract: objectives: to evaluate angiotensin converting enzyme gene (ace) polymorphism with transthoracic bidimensional ecocardiogram of normotensive young medical students, siblings of hypertensive parents comparing them with those with normotensive parents. method: we had studied 80 normotensive youngs divided in two groups: hypertensive parents' normotensive young medical students 40 x normotensive parents'and normotensive medical students. exclusion criteria were hypertension, obesity, smoke, use of oral contraceptives, as well as those who use chronically drugs or the presence of any disease. the group has been enrolled between 1994 to 1996. 50 students made transthoracic bidimensional echocardiogram. the statistical analysis was done by ''t-student'' test. the evaluation of polymorphism ace gene was studied in 80 people in each step: 1) 5ml of blood in edta tube; 2) extraction of dna; 3) evaluation of dna concentration by eletrophoresis analyses; 4) polymerase chain reaction with primer of ace gene; 5) analysis of polymorphism ace gene by electrophoresis 6) statiscal analysis by chi-square test. results: the group of students with hypertesive parents presented thicker interventricular septum (7.82mm ± 0.69 against 7.38 mm ± 0,8, p < 0,05). on the other hand, we didn't find differences between the groups concerning ace gene genotype: students with hypertensive parents dd:42.5%, di: 37.5%, ii: 20% against students with normotensive parents : dd: 37.5%, di: 32.5%, ii: 30%, (p=0,58), in addition we also did not find differences concerning the alleles group of hypertensive parents: d: 61.25%, i: 38.75% versus normotensive parents: d: 53.75% , i: 46.25%, p=0,33. we divided these groups into two in relation to the mean thickness of interventricular septum and left ventricular mass and we did not find any difference: in students with hypertensive parents group septum > 7,82 mm: dd: 32%, di: 24%, ii: 20% x septum < 7,82 mm: dd: 8%, di: 12 %, ii: 4%, p=0,7) in normotensive paren

Abstract: OBJETIVOS: Os autores objetivaram no presente estudo avaliar o polimorfismo da enzima conversora da angiotensina com dados do ecocardiograma de jovens estudantes de Medicina, filhos de hipertensos, comparados com jovens filhos de normotensos. MéTODOS: Foram estudados 80 jovens normotensos divididos em dois grupos: 40 filhos normotensos de pais hipertensos e 40 filhos normotensos de pais hipertensos. Critérios de exclus o foram hipertens o arterial, fumo, obesidade, uso de contraceptivos orais. Uso cr nico de medicamentos e presen a de qualquer doen a. Os alunos foram incluídos entre 1994 e 1996. Cinqüenta alunos foram submetidos a ecocardiograma transtoráxico. A análise estatística foi feita através do teste T de Student. A avalia o do polimorfismo do gene da enzima conversora da angiotensina foi feita nos 80 alunos conforme segue: 1) 5 ml de sangue em tubo contendo EDTA, 2) extra o do DNA, 3) medida da concentra o do DNA por eletroforese, 4) rea o em cadeia de polimerase com ''primer'' do gene da enzima conversora da angiotensina, 5) análise do polimorfismo do gene da enzima conversora da angiotensina através da eletroforese e 6) análise estatística através do teste do Qui-quadrado. RESULTADOS: O grupo de estudantes filhos de hipertensos mostraram maior espessura do septo interventricular (7,82mm+/-0,69 contra 7,38 +/- 0,8, p<0,05). Por outro lado n o encontramos diferen as entre os grupos em rela o ao genótipo do gene da enzima conversora. Filhos de hipertensos DD 42,5%, DI 37,5%, II 20% contra filhos de normotensos: DD 37,5%, DI 32,5%, II 30%, (p=0,58). N o encontramos mesmo diferen as quando considerados os alelos. O grupo com pais hipertensos D 61,25%, I 38,75%, contra grupo com pais normotensos D 53,75%, I 46,25% (p=0,33). Dividimos o grupo em dois, considerando a média da espessura do septo interventricular e a massa do ventrículo esquerdo e também n o encontramos diferen as: estudantes com pais hipertensos com septo > 7,82mm; DD 32%, DI 24%, II 20% contra septo < 7,82mm; DD 86%, DI 12%, II 4% (p=0,7). Naqueles com pais normotensos septo > 7,38mm: DD28%, DI12%, II 12%, contra septo < 7,38mm: DD16%, DI6%, II 16% (p=0,59). Em rela o à massa ventricular em filhos de pais hipertensos: massa > 131,52g: DD 20,69% DI 13,79%, II 6,9% contra massa < 131,52g: DD 24,24%, DI 17,24%, II 17,24% (p=0,72). Lois1; Carlos Moacir Bonato1* 1Universidade Estadual de Maring ¢a a€ UEM 1* Orientador ¢a a€ cmbonato@uem.br Introduction: The accelerated aging test evaluates the behavior of seeds exposed to stress conditions based on the fact that the rate of deterioration is considerably increased by exposure to high temperature and relative humidity [1]. The knowledge acquired in homeopathic science is experimental research on healthy living organisms that are undergoing experimentation using homeopathic medicines [2]. The experimental research on homeopathic plants has been performed in Europe, Mexico, India and Brazil, proving that the principle of homeopathy, as set out in the animal kingdom has been found in plants [3]. This experiment aimed to evaluate the effect of the homeopathic Arsenicum album in decimal (x) and centesimal (cH) scale on the physiological variables of the germination and growth of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) subjected to accelerated aging. Materials and methods: The experiment was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Homeopathy, Universidade Estadual de Maring - UEM. Arsenicum album 6x and 2CH matrices were acquired in homeopathic pharmacy. From matrices were prepared further dynamizations in decimal (x) and centesimal (C) scale, according to the Brazilian Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia [4]. In the accelerated aging test were used samples of 200 seeds per treatment distributed evenly forming a single layer on the surfaces of metal wire suspended inside the plastic box containing inside 40ml of Arsenicum album (9, 12, 18, or 30x 24 and 9, 12, 18, 24 or 30C). The control consisted of distilled water. The boxes were placed in BOD-chamber adjusted to 42 °C and relative humidity 100% for 96 hours. After this period, led to the germination test, using four replicates of 50 seeds, totalizing 52 experimental units which were placed on germination paper previously soaked with distilled water in an amount equivalent to 2.5 times the paper weight[5]. The rolls were arranged randomly in the BOD-chamber at 25 °C ±2. The interpretation of the test was performed after seven days [6]. Germination percentage (% PG) was determined according to the Rules for Seed Analysis [5]. The length of primary roots (PRL) and hypocotyl (LH) were only performed in normal seedlings. Abstract: Introduction: Temperature is one of the main environmental factors that act on plants, affecting physiological processes such as germination and vigor, growth, photosynthesis, water and nutrients uptake, among others [1]. When seeds are exposed to temperature stress during imbibition process occur dramatic changes in the reorganization and function of the plasma membrane impairing the stability and functional structure of the membrane resulting in the decrease on germination and embryo death [2][3]. In plant, stress triggers wide response that extends from the change of gene expression and cell metabolism to changes in growth rate and productivity. The organism ¢a a ¢s reaction is a function of plant capacity to produce effects opposite to the action of stressors [4]. Aim: the purpose of this study was to evaluate high dilution effect of Arsenicum album on physiological variables of germination and growth of sorghum. Material and Methods: The experiment was conducted at the Laboratory of Physiology and Homeopathy at Universidade Estadual de Maring - UEM. Arsenicum album 6x matrix was acquired in homeopathic laboratory. From matrix, other dilutions were prepared according to Brazilian Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia [5] with the homeopathic remedies prepared in distilled water (1/10) and succussed by 100 times in mechanical arm (50-Denise Model Autic). For cold test, 50 seeds were distributed on germitest paper moistened to 2.5 times the weight of paper under different dilutions of A. album (9, 12, 18, 24 and 30x) with four replications. The control consisted of distilled water. After sowing, the rolls were placed in plastic bags and sealed, and lead in BOD-chamber at 10 °C for 7 days. After this period, the rolls were removed from plastic bags and transferred to BOD-chamber at (25 ± 2) °C, arranged at random where they remained for seven days. Germination percentage (GP%) were evaluated according to Rules for Seed Analysis [6]. The length of primary roots (LPR) and length of hypocotyl (LH) were determined only for seedlings. The total length seedlings (TLS) was calculated as the sum of the lengths of hypocotyl (LH) and primary root (LPR). The fresh biomass (FB) of the seedlings were obtained by removing from their cotyledons, and then weighed on an analytical balance. The dry biomass (DB) was obtained after drying at (80 ± 1) °C for 72h. The experimental design was completely randomized. Abstract: We developed a psychophysical paradigm for the clinical assessment of the contrast sensitivity (CS) mediated by the ON- and OFF-systems of the Magnocellular and Parvocellular pathways. We designed a stimulus considering two dimensions: two spatial frequencies (0.5 and 4.5 cpd) and two temporal rates of flicker (33 ms and 1500 ms). To evidence the ON- and OFF responses, the CS was measured for two polarities of light with luminance changes of 0.6 dB steps above and below the medium luminance grey background. We tested 38 healthy volunteers. The results shows that Magnocellular contrast sensitivity was higher than Parvocellular for the 33 ms flickering stimulus and the Parvocellular contrast sensitivity was higher than Magnocellular for 1500 ms stimuli. The reliability of the test was checked and confirmed. We concluded that the test performs a rapid measurement of the CS mediated by the ON and OFF systems of Magnocellular and Parvocellular pathways. It is useful in clinical protocols due to its high sensitivity and good reliability.

We first introduce entropy according to University Physics textbooks, then, briefly discuss it, and then we prove by a general relativistic derivation that the Universe has entropy growth, like a white-hole, that it is R2-dependent, and that dark energy, represented by a cosmological constant, is caused by heat flow, and provides for entropy growth.

Abstract:
In recent years there has increased interest in the characterization of titanium oxide nanorods for application in analytical devices. The titanium oxide nanorods (NRTiO) were obtained by hydrothermal reaction with a NaOH solution heated in the autoclave at 150°C for up to 50 h. Experimental data indicate that the prepared nanorods consist of anatase and rutile phases, with a possible interlayer structure. The NRTiO was investigated as pH sensor in the pH range 2 - 12, and the extended gate field effect transistor (EGFET) configuration presented a sensitivity of 49.6 mV/pH. Voltammetric data showed a sensitivity of 47.8 mV/pH. These results indicate that the material is a promising candidate for applications as an EGFET-pH sensor and as a disposable biosensor in the future.

Abstract: the production of rural machines in argentina has its beginning very early, stimulated by the great opportunities that gave the cereal production. a remarkable trait of this sector is the tradition of technological innovation encouraged without any doubt by the specific nature of the agricultural production in our country and the high cost of the imported machinery. this tradition of innovation and the land tapestry will be the key to understand the development of a firm of harvest machines in the south of santa fe since the fifties. we can identify four moments in roque vassalli s.a.'s trajectory, each one is presented in this work in a chronological order that emphasises some aspect of the enterprises dynamic that explains the productive development and the financial-economic evolution of the firm in that period. on a first moment we will see the innovative disposition of the founder partner, his relationship with the public policies to promote the sector and the strong will to create a web of distributors; these are the key factors to the consolidation of this enterprise in the internal market. instead, in a second place we emphasize the problems that it had in the agricultural machinery commerce on the second half of the seventies that ended up affecting its productive and financial situation. on the third part this work focalises on the variables that let us explain the recovery of the enterprise, mainly in the important dynamic of the internal market but also in the commercialization strategies and the capture of the wide external markets. finally, the analysis on the fourth part remarks the thin limits that had the macroeconomic conjuncture over the entrepreneur negotiation, which ended up with the selling of the firm.
