Mapeamento do Crime e Análise Criminal: A Experiência do Estado do Paraná
Marcelo Bordin,Rodrigo Perim de Lima
Geografares , 2012,

Psychology (PSYCH) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2015.63030
Abstract: The purpose of this exploratory study was to investigate the influence of the school year, considering different times on the academic trajectory of stress among Brazilian dental students (n = 111) as well as grasp the values established by the subject facing this prospect. The methodological grant for data collection was the Inventory of Stress Symptoms for Adults Lipp applied in the beginning and at the end of the semester, and the technique in the focus group interview. The results demonstrated academic tickets with significantly higher rates of this phenomenon at the end of the semester, when compared to graduates (p = 0.004). The perceptions of academics on the etiology of stress associated opinions unveiled the pedagogical design, teacher performance, difficulties in interpersonal relationships as well as the course extrinsic factors. It can be concluded that the stress is the present and modulate phenomenon in investigated academic trajectory.
Risk factors for indications of intraoperative blood transfusion among patients undergoing surgical treatment for colorectal adenocarcinoma

Arquivos de Gastroenterologia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-28032009000300009
Abstract: context: identification of risk factors for requiring transfusions during surgery for colorectal cancer may lead to preventive actions or alternative measures, towards decreasing the use of blood components in these procedures, and also rationalization of resources use in hemotherapy services. this was a retrospective case-control study using data from 383 patients who were treated surgically for colorectal adenocarcinoma at "funda??o pio xii", in barretos-sp, brazil, between 1999 and 2003. objective: to recognize significant risk factors for requiring intraoperative blood transfusion in colorectal cancer surgical procedures. methods: univariate analyses were performed using fisher's exact test or the chi-squared test for dichotomous variables and student's t test for continuous variables, followed by multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression. results: in the univariate analyses, height (p = 0.06), glycemia (p = 0.05), previous abdominal or pelvic surgery (p = 0.031), abdominoperineal surgery (p<0,001), extended surgery (p<0.001) and intervention with radical intent (p<0.001) were considered significant. in the multivariate analysis using logistic regression, intervention with radical intent (or = 10.249, p<0.001, 95% ci = 3.071-34.212) and abdominoperineal amputation (or = 3.096, p = 0.04, 95% ci = 1.445-6.623) were considered to be independently significant. conclusion: this investigation allows the conclusion that radical intervention and the abdominoperineal procedure in the surgical treatment of colorectal adenocarcinoma are risk factors for requiring intraoperative blood transfusion.
Photochemical and photobiological properties of furocoumarins and homologues drugs
F. Bordin
International Journal of Photoenergy , 1999, DOI: 10.1155/s1110662x9900001x
Abstract: Furocoumarins are natural photosensitizing drugs used in PUVA photochemotherapy and in photopheresis. Their therapeutic effectiveness is connected to the lesions they induce to various cell components, membranes, ribosomes, mitochondria, and in particular to DNA, damaged by formation of monofunctional adducts and of inter-strand cross-links (ISC). ISC represent a severe damage, mainly correlated to the main side effects observed in photochemotherapy, skin phototoxicity and genotoxicity. Searching for new monofunctional derivatives, two tetramethylfuroquinolinones, 1,4,6,8-tetramethyl-2H-furo[2,3-h]quinolin-2- one (FQ) and 4,6,8,9-tetramethyl-2H-furo[2,3-h]-quinolin-2-one (HFQ) were studied. Both compounds are very active; however while FQ produced many chromosomal aberrations and strong skin erythemas, HFQ practically did not induce such side effects. FQ and HFQ formed high levels of monoadducts but no ISC in DNA, but both provoked many DNA-protein cross-links (DPC). FQ induced these lesions by a biphotonic reaction: at first a furan-side monoadduct is formed, which is then converted into a DPC; thus the FQ molecule seemed to form the bridge between DNA and proteins. HFQ formed DPC by a single step (DPC at zero length, like UVC). For these features, HFQ appears to be the first molecule belonging to a new class of active but not phototoxic drugs for photomedicine.
The Literary Utopias of Cultural Communities, 1790-1910. Eds. Marguérite Corporaal and Evert Jan van Leeuwen.

European Journal of American Studies , 2011, DOI: 10.4000/ejas.8861
Abstract: “Utopia,” from the combination of the Greek diminutive plural of topos, that is “place,” and the pun between the two prefixes ou, “non-,” and eu, “good,” is a term that is not-so-often used in the twenty-first century. It rather reminds us of bygone centuries, when scientists, philosophers, publishers or writers had time to dream and discuss of possible societies, and were not forced to face the disillusionments of a post-modern and a post-industrial society in which scholars are more and mo...

Clinics , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1807-59322011000500003
Abstract: background: recent studies have demonstrated high rates of psychopathology in the offspring of parents with bipolar disorder. the aim of this study was to identify psychiatric diagnoses in a sample of children of bipolar parents. method: this case series comprised 35 children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years, with a mean age of 12.5 + 2.9 years (20 males and 15 females), who had at least one parent with bipolar disorder type i. the subjects were assessed using the schedule for affective disorders and schizophrenia for school-age children - present and lifetime version (k-sads-pl). family psychiatric history and demographics were also evaluated. results: of the offspring studied, 71.4% had a lifetime diagnosis of at least one psychiatric disorder (28.6% with a mood disorder, 40% with a disruptive behavior disorder and 20% with an anxiety disorder). pure mood disorders (11.4%) occurred less frequently than mood disorders comorbid with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (17.1%). psychopathology was commonly reported in second-degree relatives of the offspring of parents with bipolar disorder (71.4%). conclusions: our results support previous findings of an increased risk for developing psychopathology, predominantly mood and disruptive disorders, in the offspring of bipolar individuals. prospective studies with larger samples are needed to confirm and expand these results.
Anemia hemolítica auto-imune e outras manifesta??es imunes da leucemia linfocítica cr?nica
Bordin, José O.;
Revista Brasileira de Hematologia e Hemoterapia , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-84842005000400008
Abstract: chronic lymphocytic leukemia (cll) is frequently associated with autoimmune diseases directed against hematopoietic cells, including autoimmune hemolytic anemia (aiha), immune thrombocytopenic purpura (itp), pure red cell aplasia (prca), and immune neutropenia. cll represents the diagnosis in up to 15% of the patients with aiha, and in 50% of the patients with aiha secondary to malignancy. itp occurs in 2% and prca in about 1% of all cll patients. prednisone is the first-line treatment for immune cytopenia related to cll. about 60% of patients relapse when treatment is stopped therefore splenectomy, intravenous immunoglobulin, or cyclosporine are reasonable second-line treatments. although the data on pathophysiology are very limited, it appears that the autoimmune mechanisms are related to the activity of the leukemic b lymphocytes that act as aberrant antigen-presenting cells, and are effective in processing and presenting proteins derived from red cells or platelets to auto-reactive th cells. th cells specific for certain auto-antigens escape from control mechanisms and when activated may initiate auto-immune disease. patients with aiha secondary to cll should not receive fludarabine because there is an increased frequency of severe and fatal aiha in patients treated with purine nucleoside analogues. patients who are more immunosuppressed due to several previous treatments are at higher risk for developing this auto-immune complication.

Waterlike Features, Liquid-Crystal Phase and Self-Assembly in Janus Dumbbells
José Rafael Bordin
Physics , 2015,
Abstract: We use Molecular Dynamics simulations to explore the properties of dimmeric Janus nanoparticles. The nanoparticles are modeled as dumbbells. One kind of monomer interacts by a Lennard-Jones potential, while the other specie of monomer interacts though a two length scale potential. This specific two length scale potential do not present waterlike anomalies in bulk. However, our results shows that, when combined in a dimmer, the Janus nanoparticle will have waterlike anomalies. The self-assembly properties were also explored. We observe several kinds of micelles, and a liquid-crystal phase. This results indicates that is possible to create Janus nanoparticles with waterlike features using monomers without anomalous behavior. The anomalies and structures are explained with the two length scale potential characteristics.

Creative Education (CE) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2014.514153

Assessment of learning and the allocation of credits according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System is no longer an educational tool which concerns professors, but it has become a statutory duty that sees conservatories of music part of a network of relationships. This study highlights the situation of Higher Music Education in Italy: we will consider the assessment models in their context of use and on the basis of ideal values that support them; we will examine the famous case of Giuseppe Verdi, rejected in its entrance exam to the Conservatory of Milan, which represents, paradoxically, the weaknesses of the assessment system, providing a historical perspective; we will propose an examination of the practical and legal aspects of the national assessment system; finally, we will offer an example of good practice that shows how to contextualize some important aspects of this problem.
