Checklist das espécies de Euphorbiaceae Juss. ocorrentes no semi-árido pernambucano, Brasil

Abstract: this paper presents a checklist of euphorbiaceae of the semi-arid area - caatinga zone, subzones agreste and sert?o - in pernambuco state (northeast of brazil). materials from field work done from 1997 to 1999 and from the local herbaria (ira, peufr, tash and ufp), were studied. up to now, 89 species, distributed within 22 genera have been listed. croton l. (21), cnidoscolus pohl (7), dalecliampia plum, ex l. (6), euphorbia l. (6) and phyllanthus l. (6), were the most important genera as regards number of species. caperonia castanefolia a. st.-hil, euphorbia phosphorea mart, and rotnanoa tamnoides (a. juss.) radcl.-sm. are new records for pernambuco state.

Abstract: orchidaceae was recently pointed as the most representative family in atlantic forest. based on the lack of data and the fragmentation with lost of diversity, this paper provides a checklist of the orchids in some fragments of atlantic rainforest in usina s?o josé (usj), pernambuco, brazil. the study area includes six forest fragments in igarassu, pernambuco. fieldwork was carried out from december/2008 to march/2010. the vouchers were deposited at ufp herbarium. orchidaceae is represented by 27 species and 19 genera which epidendrum l. (4 spp.) and scaphyglottis poepp. & endl.(3 spp.) were the richest in number of species. this work increases 20 spp. to that recorded for usj in previous checklist. three species are recorded here for the first time for the atlantic rainflorest, and one is a new record to northeastern brazil. cattleya granulosa lindl. and zygostates bradei (schltr.) garay are considered threatened. the piedade remain is noteworthy for having 26 spp., which is a rppn. the data shows the importance of the area to conservation of the biodiversity in the state.
Floristic diversity of two crystalline rocky outcrops in the Brazilian northeast semi-arid region

Abstract: floristic composition and structure of vegetation were studied in two rocky outcrop areas in the semi-arid region of northeastern brazil. from april 2007 to september 2008, 18 monthly field trips were carried out. vascular plants were randomly collected throughout the outcrop areas. for structural analysis, 30 plots of 1 × 1 m were set in the vegetation islands. the checklist presented combines 211 species (69 families and 168 genera), although only 56 species were collected in the plots. fabaceae (18 spp.; 8.5%), asteraceae (17 spp.; 8%), orchidaceae (13 spp.; 6.1%), euphorbiaceae (13 spp.; 6.1%), bromeliaceae (10 spp.; 4.7%), and poaceae (eight spp.; 3.8%) are the richest families. overall, 1,792 shrub and herbaceous specimens were counted in the plots. the shannon-wiener (h) diversity index values were 2.572 and 2.547 nats individual-1. the species that presented the highest absolute abundance values (number of plants) had low frequencies in the plots and vice-versa. the biological spectrum had a high proportion of phanerophytes and therophytes, followed by cryptophytes, chamaephytes, and hemicryptophytes. the studied flora shares floristic components similar to other rocky outcrop areas of the semi-arid region in northeastern brazil, including in relation to dominant groups in the vegetation structure.

Abstract: lauraceae has 52 genera and about 2500-3500 species and is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of the planet. in brazil, it is represented by 23 genera and approximately 420 species. the atlantic forest is considered to be one of the centers of diversity for this family. this study aims to treat the lauraceae taxonomically from fragments of atlantic forest in pernambuco state. this study presents 10 species in four genera: cassytha filiformis, cinnamomum triplinerve, nectandra cuspidata, ocotea canaliculata, o. indecora, o. glauca, o. glomerata, o. longifolia, o. notata, and o. puberula, the latter being a new record for pernambuco. an identification key, descriptions and comments on the species, and illustrations of diagnostic characters are presented.

Abstract: anatomical and ultrastructural aspects of cyperus maritimus poir. were analyzed with the aim of identifying adaptive features for the dune environment. collections were made at pipa beach, rio grande do norte, brazil. leaves were submitted to different analyses: light microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. in frontal view, the epidermis has unicellular trichomes, silica bodies, a striate cuticle and wax deposits. in transverse section, the epidermis is uniseriate with thickened outer periclinal walls. the stomata are paracitic and the pore sometimes obstructed by wax. under the adaxial epidermis, there are several layers of aqueous parenchyma. the vascular bundles occur in multiple rows, the peripheral row having bundles with narrower diameters than the central row. characters related to kranz syndrome of the chlorocyperoid type were observed. ultrastructural features support a possible c4 pathway in this species. this work is the first citation of chloroplasts in the cells of the vascular system for the genus. in this study, it was possible to observe several important features of plants submitted to water and salt stress, such as: wax, thickened outer periclinal walls of the epidermal cells, aqueous parenchyma and kranz syndrome.
Morfologia de nectários em Leguminosae senso lato em áreas de caatinga no Brasil

Abstract: extrafloral nectaries (efns) are nectar secreting glands found in many species of angiosperms, including leguminosae. these structures have various forms (elevated, embedded; stalk present or not; different colors) and positions on the plants (on the rachis, on the petiole), and these characteristics are relevant to taxonomy and morphology studies. this work analyses the morphological diversity of efns in leguminosae from a priority conservation area of caatinga in pernambuco state. the 35 leguminosae species studied were collected in mirandiba municipality, a semi-arid region of pernambuco and submitted to the usual techniques of anatomy and morphology analyses. among these species, efns with primary (non-substitutive) and secondary (substitutive) origin were characterized. two different kinds and eleven distinct efns forms were found. a large variety of placement, color, shape, and size are reported here. an identification key and illustrations are also provided. our data increased the number of species studied with efns in the family, and also confirm the taxonomic and ecological importance of this structure for legumes from the semi-arid region of brazil.

Abstract: in this paper is showed a taxonomic study of paspalum species from pernambuco. morphological study was supported by fieldwork and analyses of specimens from 18 brazilian herbaria. the genus is represented in pernambuco by 32 species distributed with two subgenera: paspalum subg. paspalum and p. subg. harpostachys, with 29 and three species, respectively. only p. notatum is not native. ten species are new from pernambuco state and the occurrence of the p. calliferum is the first record to brazil. information about taxonomic relationships, geographic distribution and economic use are given.

Abstract: with an aim to contribute to our knowledge of distribution patterns of paspalum species, this study examines the distribution of the species that occur in pernambuco. in order to do this, extensive reviews of the literature, of specimens deposited in several herbaria, and of databases available on the internet, in addition to collections made in the state of pernambuco were performed. the 31 species analyzed were classified into two distribution patterns: broad, with 29 species and restricted, with two species. the species with restricted distribution are found in the northeast region of brazil, with one endemic to the semi-arid domain and the other until now only recorded from the atlantic coast of brazil. the broad distribution pattern can be subdivided into two groups, continuous and disjunct, which can be subsequently classified into three subgroups: american, central-south american, and south american. the importance of this analysis for a better understanding of flora of pernambuco origins is also discussed.

Abstract: given the high richness and importance of paspalum for the flora of pernambuco, this work aims to describe the distribution of species of this genus in the state and contribute to the identification and understanding of the environmental factors that influence the distribution of the species and its conservation. with the diva-gis software, maps were developed of the following parameters: species distribution, overlay of species richness by phytogeographic subdivision and a model to predict the areas with favorable climatic conditions for the establishment of the examined species. the species documented with three or fewer records and/or restricted to one location were classified as rare. paspalum occurs widely in pernambuco, but the distribution of most species is limited by increased seasonality in the east-to-west direction. in the region that includes the restinga, mata úmida, mata seca and agreste subzones all analyzed species are found. the subzone of the mata úmida (moist forest) had the largest number of species, followed by restinga (coastal) and the subzone agreste (transition zone between moist and semi-arid regions). the modeling revealed two regions with optimal environmental conditions for the species. these areas are susceptible to human action. twelve species were classified as rare, occurring mainly in the more humid regions where an area was identified with optimal conditions for the establishment of populations of many species.
Catálogo florístico y claves de identificación de las ciperáceas de los Estados de Paraíba y Pernambuco (nordeste de Brasil)

Abstract: The present work presents the results of our studies of the family Cyperaceae in the northeastern Brazilian States of Pernambuco and Paraiba. The introduction includes a historical synopsis of previous work and summarizes the main types of vegetation found in the región. Keys for identification of the 22 genera and 127 species which comprise the catalogue are included. The species are enumerated for each genus, along with synonyms which have been employed in the región, material examined, frequency, habitat, general geographic distribution, and taxonomic observations where appropriate. More than half of the species are new records for Pernambuco and Paraiba. Two species are reported as new to science. Fuirena lainzii Luce o & M. Alves (1996) and Scleria pernambucana Luce o & M. Alves (1997). Two species are first reports from the American continent, Pycreus pumilus (L.) Nees and P. pelophilus (Ridley) C.B. Clarke, and two are first repoits for Brazil, Kyllinga nemoralis (J.R. Forster & G. Forster) Dandy ex Hutchinson & Daziel and Scleria mexicana (Liebm.) Boeck. Six genera and 10 species are new citations for the northeastem región of Brazil. A lectotype for Cyperus grossianus T.M. Ped. is chosen. Additionally, new localities are given for regional endemisms considered for be rare; other findings represent disjunctions of considerable biogeographical importance. En el presente trabajo se exponen los resultados de las investigaciones que hemos llevado a cabo, sobre la familia de las Ciperáceas, en los Estados brasile os de Pemambuco y Paraíba. En la introducción se presenta una sinopsis histórica de los trabajos anteriores y se resumen las principales formaciones vegetales. Se ofrecen claves para la identificación de los 22 géneros y las 136 especies que componen el catálogo. Tras las claves de cada género se enumeran las diversas especies del mismo, junto con los sinónimos que han sido empleados en la región, materiales examinados, frecuencia, habitat, distribución geográfica general y observaciones taxonómicas, cuando procede. Más de la mitad de las especies no habían sido citadas para los Estados de Pernambuco y Paraíba. Descubrimos dos especies nuevas para la ciencia (Fuirena lainzi Luce o & M. Alves, 1996, y Scleria pernambucana Luce o & M. Alves, 1997), dos especies nuevas para el continente americano [Pycreus pumilus (L.) Nees y P. pelophilus (Ridley) C.B.
