Abstract: introduction: education is a well-being related to health. it is believed that in school children with special needs can achieve the most comprehensive educational progress and social integration. objectives: the objective of this study was to evaluate the need for participation and assistance in performing school tasks in children with cerebral palsy (cp). materials e methods: thirty children with cp were evaluated through the school function assessment (sfa). statistical analysis was performed using the mann whitney test, the spearman correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression analysis backward. results: significant differences were found between groups in all parts of the sfa. there was negative correlation between the level of motor impairment and parts i and ii of the sfa and a positive correlation between part i and ii of the sfa. conclusion: the inclusion of children with cp in a collective means of participation is difficult and often by multiple disorders of the child. the degree of motor impairment and need assistance in performing physical tasks and cognitive/behavioral together explained 89% of the variability of school participation in children with cp. the need for assistance in performing physical tasks was the most influential factor that accounted for the restriction on school participation.

International Archives of Otorhinolaryngology , 2012, DOI: 10.7162/S1809-97772012000300004
Abstract: introduction: over the last few years, our tinnitus research group has identified an increasing number of patients with tinnitus who also complained of repeated perception of complex sounds, such as music and voices. such hallucinatory phenomena motivated us to study their possible relation to the patients' psyches. aims: to assess whether hallucinatory phenomena were related to the patients' psychosis and/or depression, and clarify their content and function in the patients' psyches. method: ten subjects (8 women; mean age = 65.7 years) were selected by otolaryngologists and evaluated by the same psychologists through semi-structured interviews, the hamilton depression rating scale, and psychoanalysis interviews. results: we found no association between auditory hallucinations and psychosis; instead, this phenomenon was associated with depressive aspects. the patients' discourse revealed that hallucinatory phenomena played unconscious roles in their emotional life. in all cases, there was a remarkable and strong tendency to recall/repeat unpleasant facts/situations, which tended to exacerbate the distress caused by the tinnitus and hallucinatory phenomena and worsen depressive aspects. conclusions: there is an important relationship between tinnitus, hallucinatory phenomena, and depression based on persistent recall of facts/situations leading to psychic distress. the knowledge of such findings represents a further step towards the need to adapt the treatment of this particular subgroup of tinnitus patients through interdisciplinary teamwork. prospective.

Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0066-782X2009005000003
Abstract: background: the reduction in morbidity and mortality rates from diseases of the circulatory system (dcs) is one of the greatest challenges in primary care, and the implementation of the family health program provides access to the multisectoral and integrated measures required for dealing with these diseases. objective: to analyze dcs mortality and hospitalization rates before and after the implementation of the family health program, in londrina, paraná. methods: this was an ecological study, comparing dcs, cerebrovascular disease (cbvd) and ischemic heart disease (ihd) mortality rates and hospitalization rates by the sus, in residents of londrina, in two 4-year periods: 1997 to 2000, and 2002 to 2005. the data were obtained from the mortality information system and the hospital information system of the sus. the ratios between the rates were calculated for both periods at 95% confidence interval. results: the dcs was the first cause of death in the city, in both quadrennia. the cbvd and ihd accounted for more than 63% of dcs deaths. in comparing the two quadrennia, there was a reduction in cbvd mortality rates, which was significant only for subjects over 59 years, in both genders, and the hospitalization rates increased by 10%. for ihd, no significant change occurred in mortality rates, and there was a 40% increase in hospitalization rates. conclusion: the significant reduction only in cbvd mortality in the elderly suggests the need for expanding health assistance coverage to different population groups and the development of preventive and health promotion measures.

Abstract: background and objectives: osteoarthritis (oa) is the most common arthropathy and one of the major causes of chronic pain in the elderly population, which may lead to major functional incapacity of these individuals. aiming at treating pain of elderly patients with knee oa, we have used lysine clonixinate (lc) and have evaluated its effectiveness method: randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial with 109 elderly patients with knee oa-related pain. participants were distributed in two groups: group lc and group p (placebo), who received tablets to be used three times a day for 30 days. evaluations were performed initially, 15 days after and at study completion, as to pain intensity at rest, at initial movement, ambulation and joint compression; and the need for additional analgesia, morning stiffness; pain-related functional incapacity, adherence, tolerability and global treatment evaluation. results: lc has significantly decreased pain at initial movement and ambulation already in the first 15 days, with 30% decrease in protokinetic pain and 31.6% in ambulation, but best results were seen after 30 days, when reductions were 42.3% and 45.5%, respectively. additional analgesia was significantly lower with lc: 2.6% and 9.5% for groups lc and p, respectively. there were no differences between groups in morning stiffness and functional incapacity. there has been major adherence and tolerability. global evaluation was favorable to lc, being excellent or good for 50% of patients. conclusion: lysine clonixinate was effective to treat knee oa-related pain in elderly people.

Abstract: objective: to produce theoretical study about comparisons of cognitive and methodological aspects involved in the performance of towers of hanoi and london in normal individuals. method: narrative review of the literature. results: the performances in these instruments do not share the expected variance due to the apparent similarities in your structure and solution demand. correlations significant, however moderate, among the two towers performance, were found reflecting the average of 75% of the nonshared variance. conclusions: both towers recruit different executive processes for task solution and cannot be used as exchangeable instruments.
