Natural Science (NS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ns.2015.712054
Abstract: Macadamia nuts (Macadamia integrifolia) grown in Venezuela have showed an average total fat content of 70%. Oleic acid (18:1) was the main monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) (51.3%), followed by palmitoleic acid (16:1, 22.6%). The content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), C18:2 and C18:3 represented 5.4%. Thus, MUFAs and PUFAs together constituted more than 80% of the total fatty acids present. Trans-vaccenic acid was also present (3%). As regards to other phytochemical compounds, tocopherols and tocotrienols were not found in the sample, but the presence of squalene was detected.The antioxidant activity (44.2%) of the extract was produced by the phytochemicals present.
INVESTIGACIONES EN SALUD SEXUAL Y REPRODUCTIVA DE PUEBLOS INDíGENAS EN CHILE Y LA AUSENCIA DE PERTINENCIA éTNICA
Dides Castillo,Claudia; Pérez Moscoso,María Soledad;
Acta bioethica , 2007, DOI: 10.4067/S1726-569X2007000200009
Abstract: this essay argues about the ethnic relevance of investigations carried out in chile on sexual and reproductive health from 1990 to 2004, based on a national diagnosis on the subject. most of these investigations did not consider the cultural and ethnic diversity of our country, so this is a pending issue. furthermore, the tensions implied by the lack of ethnic relevance in investigations about sexual and reproductive health are also raised

Lutzomyia longipalpis abundance in the city of Posadas, northeastern Argentina: variations at different spatial scales
Santini, María Soledad;Fernández, María Soledad;Pérez, Adriana Alicia;Sandoval, Adolfo Enrique;Salomón, Oscar Daniel;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02762012000600010
Abstract: the distribution of lutzomyia longipalpis is heterogeneous with a pattern of high abundance areas (haas) embedded in a matrix of low abundance areas (laas). the objective of this study was to describe the variability in the abundance of lu. longipalpis at two different spatial levels and to analyse the relationship between the abundance and multiple environmental variables. of the environmental variables analysed in each household, the condition that best explained the differences in vector abundance between haa-laa was the variable "land_grass", with greater average values in the peridomestic environments within the laa, and the variables "#sp tree", "#pots" and "dist_water" that were higher in the haa. of the environmental variables analysed in the patches, the variable "unpaved_streets" was higher in the laas and the variable "prop_inf_dogs" was higher in the haas. an understanding of the main environmental variables that influence the vector distribution could contribute to the development of strategies for the prevention and control of visceral leishmaniasis (vl). this is the first work in which environmental variables are analysed at the micro-scale in urban areas at the southern edge of the current range of lu. longipalpis. our results represent a significant contribution to the understanding of the abundance of the vector in the peridomestic habitats of the region.
Biological control of Rhizoctonia solani in tomatoes with Trichoderma harzianum mutants

Electronic Journal of Biotechnology , 2010,
Abstract: biocontrol of rhizoctonia solani in tomatoes cultivated under greenhouse and field conditions was analyzed using the trichoderma harzianum mutants th650-ng7, th11a80.1, th12a40.1, th12c40.1 and th12a10.1 and thf2-1, respectively. their innocuousness on tomato cultivars 92.95 and gondola (greenhouse assays), and on cultivar fortaleza (field assays) was established. alginate pellets (1.7 g pellets/l soil) containing c.a1 x 105 colony forming units (cfu)/g pellet were applied to a soil previously inoculated with r. solani at transplant (greenhouse) or to a naturally infected soil (field). controls considered parental wild strains, a chemical fungicide and no additions. th11a 80.1, th12a10.1 and th650-ng7 prevented the 100% mortality of tomato plants cv. 92.95 caused by r. solani, and the 40% mortality in tomato plants cv. gondola (greenhouse assays). mortality reduction was reflected in canker level lessening and in plant parameters increases (development, fresh and dry weights). a different degree of susceptibility of tomato plants was observed, being gondola cv. more resistant than 92.95 cv. to infection in a soil previously inoculated with r. solani. tomato plants of cv. fortaleza did not show mortality in naturally infected soils (field assays), where the mutant thf2-1 reduced significantly the canker level caused by r. solani.
Alergia al látex en los trabajadores sanitarios (I): Vigilancia de la salud
Gil Micharet,María Soledad; Barriga Medina,Francisco José; Pérez De Villar Grande,José Antonio;
Medicina y Seguridad del Trabajo , 2007, DOI: 10.4321/S0465-546X2007000300006
Abstract: látex allergy constitutes an important problem of health in the healthcare workers, so much for its high prevalence as for the graveness of the reactions that can take place. the early detection of the symptoms by means of specific health surveillance, and the measures guided to avoid the sensitization and to prevent the symptomatology appearance and progression of the illness in the sensitized workers, are the best intervention strategies on this occupational problem. the article carries out in this first part, a revision of the epidemiology, clinic and diagnosis, and it proposes a specific medical protocol.

Abstract: we present a sequential procedure aimed at detecting reading acquisition difficulties. data were collected from a representative sample (n=2012) of 2nd, 4th, and 6th graders from all state schools (n=14) and private schools (n=5) in a single district. in the first step, a silent reading test (test de eficiencia lectora tecle) was collectively conducted. it identified 273 children who presented reading difficulties that could not be explained by other causes (cognitive, sensory, behavioural, linguistic, and social). in the second step, the selected sample were administered a reading test (words and pseudo-words), and an orthographic test (words presenting inconsistent phoneme-to-grapheme items) to identify more basic phonological and orthographical deficits which might explain the reading difficulties detected using the test de eficiencia lectora tecle. the results showed a greater incidence of reading problems in 2nd-grade students (15.2%) than in 4th-grade (9.3%) and 6th-grade (10.9%) students. this difference could be explained by the presence of 2nd graders with reading difficulties who can overcome their difficulties without any special intervention. we also show that a large part of the global reading delay observed can be explained by difficulties in basic decoding and orthographic abilities.

Identidades urbanas y relocalización de la pobreza
Pérez,Soledad A.;
Intersecciones en antropolog?-a , 2004,
Abstract: this article reflects on the way in which urban identities are configured in the fight for the appropriation of territory. the case study was developed in the city of san carlos de bariloche, in the northwest of patagonia, in a neighborhood located behind otto hill 6 km from the centre of the city, which was constructed following the relocation of four hundred families from seven different settlements close to the urban center. the premise of this work is that all representations imply interventions, so we tried to reconstruct the process that generated this policy of concealment of poverty, trying to catch the presumptions and representations that were used in the definition and development of the project. the presupposition that guided the relocation project was that the territorial aspect could determine the social aspect, in such a way that if you add individuals (seen as undifferentiated) together you get a neighborhood. in practice, the relocation of people from different places meant the fragmentation of identities as a result of the alteration of their everyday lives and the disolution of their routines. in the same way, this project generated conflicts, stigmatized the subjects and the space, producing isolation in both the city center and within the dwellings, as neighbors avoid interacting with "the others" with whom they are obliged to share their space.
