Santiago: territorios, anhelos y temores. Efectos sociales y espaciales de la expansión urbana
Ducci,María Elena;
EURE (Santiago) , 2000, DOI: 10.4067/S0250-71612000007900001
Abstract: the article proposes to examine the types of space being generated in santiago, chile, focusing on those areas that spread out on the edges of the city. the periphery has been developing through the strong expansion experienced by the city during the last decades, and new developments are beginning to modify the way in which territory is ocuppied. among these developments are residential areas of middle and upper social levels, areas of public housing, "artifacts of globalization" and new industrial areas. given the importance of these changes, the paper analyzes how this unequal growth is affecting the life of city-dwellers and what it is like to live in each one of these juxtaposed fragments. additionally, the dynamics that underlie contemporary urban forms, the politics of people?s location and activities, the syndrome of ownership , urban status and stigma, the city that we say we want to live in, and the fear of violence and crime, are examined
Santiago, ?una mancha de aceite sin fin??Qué pasa con la población cuando la ciudad crece indiscriminadamente?
Ducci,María Elena;
EURE (Santiago) , 1998, DOI: 10.4067/S0250-71611998007200005
Abstract: the incorporation of big extentions of land previously dedicated to agriculture, characterizes the rapid growth experienced nowadays by the city of santiago. this paper opens a debate about the implications of two different modes of city growth in the lifestyle of its citizens. the type of growth known as "sprawl", with clearly separated functional areas, is represented by the city of los angeles, california. its opposite correspond to the european model of city, more concentrated, with a dense center and a mixture of uses. the limitations showed by the traditional city planning systems, the advantages that explain the success of the american model and the impacts of the sprawl are discussed here. the interrogation about the real possibilities to oppose the seamingly clear tendency to sprawl remains opened
El realismo pragmático en la concepción habermasiana de la verdad
Candioti,María Elena;
T?3picos , 2009,
Abstract: in wahrheit und rechtfertigung habermas presents a re-elaboration of the idea of truth, in which he points out the shortage of a conception within the limits set by a discursive framework and brings up his intention of articulating the pragmatic-transcendental perspective to a weakened conception of naturalism. the article analyzes the scope of the kant-based "pragmatic realism" with which habermas intends to reinforce the differences with the contextualized positions, giving predominance to the processes of correction and adjustment. in this sense, h. putnam's incidence on habermas' thought is taken into consideration, especially concerning a conception of language which allows for the restitution of its referential function, and a new comprehension of experience as linguistically mediated. finally, a revision is presented of the implications of this idea of truth, in the cognitive field as much as in that of practical discourse, and of the way in which the relations between truth and justice come up in the framework of this issue.
Prácticas lingüísticas, configuración de sentidos y subjetividad
Candioti,María Elena;
T?3picos , 2006,
Abstract: the work analizes what has been considered a "decentration" of the subject, starting from the critique of rationality such as it was conceived by modernity. the impact of the linguistic turn is especially taken into consideration, as well as its contributions and its negative influences. a critical analysis of contextualist positions, its sceptical consequences and derivations as regards action is dealt with. finally, the theme of the subject and its possibilities is raised, pointing out especially its capacity to bring about new senses and to create new languages, but also its capacity to discern and take positions in judgement.
Asociación entre riesgo cardiovascular y consumo de licopeno en mujeres pre y postmenopáusicas
Torresani,María Elena;
Archivos Latinoamericanos de Nutrición , 2009,
Abstract: this work aimed at assessing association between cardiovascular risk (cvr) and lycopene intake in pre- and post-menopausal women, as well as its correlation with ldl-c and hdl-c values and waist circumference (wc). a transversal design of comparison and correlation was carried out for independent samples. a 316 women (40-65 y) sample attending nutritional consultation at a research foundation for endocrino metabollic diseases in buenos aires city (2005-2007) was randomized according to biological stage (35.8% premenopausal and 64.2% postmenopausal women). cvr was obtained based on framingham score and lycopene intake (source food and all lycopene containing food) according to weekly consumption frequency (mg/d and weekly/servings). association between variables was calculated with the student test, fisher test and pearson correlation coefficient (alpha significance level: 0.05). at both biological stages and for each cvr category, an inverse relationship was observed with lycopene intake, but only in pre-menopausal women with low cvr (category iii), lycopene intake was significantly greater than in those women who had moderate cvr (category ii). there was a significant correlation in postmenopausal women between ldl-c values and lycopene intake supplied by source food. however, in both biological stages a significant correlation was found between ldl-c values and all lycopene containing food consumption. no significant correlation was found between lycopene intake, hdl-c values and wc. these findings point out the relevances of a preventive nutritional approach at woman?s different biological stages
Efecto de la irradiancia en el crecimiento Y desarrollo de Aptenia cordifolia (L.f.) Schwantes Como cobertura ornamental
Arboleda,María Elena;
Bioagro , 2011,
Abstract: the shading in ornamental plant production is one of the problems that grower faces, because not all species can tolerate this condition. this study aimed to determine the effect of light on growth and morphological development of the baby sun rose (aptenia cordifolia, aizoaceae), a species widely used as ornamental groundcover. a trial was established under shed conditions with plants submitted to three irradiance levels: 1246, 526 and 112 μmol·m-2·s-1. the species showed to have morphological plasticity to adapt to the tested light conditions. the irradiance affected all evaluated variables, except for the dry mass of leaves and the chlorophyll a/b relationship. the height, length and diameter of the branches, number of nodes, internode length, number and size of leaves, petiole length, and content of chlorophyll (a, b and total), along with spad values ??increased as the irradiance levels were reduced. the total number of branches and branches with more than 10 cm in length were negatively affected by lower irradiances; the number of flowers was reduced by 69 % under the moderate level of irradiance and by 97 % in the lowest level, as compared to the highest level. the shade condition favored the vegetative growth and development at expense of the reproductive structures. from the ornamental standpoint, the shadow produced the most attractive foliage characteristics while the light favored flowering.
