Abstract: Históricamente la obesidad ha sido una patología vinculada al exceso y a la situación de opulencia. Sin embargo, en la última década se percibe un aumento significativo de esta patología en poblaciones carenciadas. Esto acarrea graves consecuencias nutricionales que, escondidas detrás de una masa corporal sostenida por la composición energética de los alimentos elegidos, muchas veces pasan inadvertidas. El presente trabajo es una síntesis de la investigación cualitativa realizada en el Centro Crecer N° 14 ubicado en Villa Banana de la ciudad de Rosario en el período octubre-diciembre de 2007. El mismo analiza el conjunto de prácticas y representaciones que sustentan las estrategias que estas familias desarrollan en torno a la problemática de la alimentación y su posible relación con la obesidad. A la hora de elegir los alimentos prevalecen, entre otras, las condiciones de satisfacción y saciedad que estos deben cumplir, resignando la calidad nutricional y dando como resultado dietas monótonas y de baja calidad nutricional.

Abstract: a case-control study was carried out in order to analyze the association between diet and risk of non melanoma skin cancer -basal cell carcinoma (bcc) and squamous cell carcinoma (scc), with adjustments for demographic, anthropometric and phenotypic characteristics, sunburns history, skin cancerfamily history, sun-exposure history and skin sensitivity to sun exposure. a full-body skin examination was performed. dietary data were obtained applying a standardized semi-quantitative questionnaire of consumption frequency. cases (n=27; age: 65,5+15,1 years) and controls (n=37; age: 63,9+12,3 years) were attended at the same facilities. a decreased risk ofbcc and scc tumors (adjusted odd ratio=0.10; ic 95%= 0.02-0.63; p=0.01) was found for high intakes of green leafy vegetables (more than 40 gr/day). however, results obtained for fruits, cruciferous, vitamin a and carotene-rich vegetables and other vegetables were not statistically significant.

Abstract: Mediante un dise o de casos y controles se evaluó si la dieta habitual modifica el riesgo de desarrollar cáncer de piel no melanoma: carcinomas basocelulares y carcinomas espinocelulares. En la consulta se consignaron datos demográficos, características fenotípicas y antropométricas, antecedentes de quemadura solar, antecedentes familiares de cáncer de piel y hábitos de exposición solar, y se realizó un exhaustivo examen físico cutáneo. La dieta fue evaluada por cuestionarios semi-cuantitativos de frecuencia de consumo. Se estudiaron 27 casos (edad: 65,5±15,1 a os) y 37 controles (63,9±12,3) que asistieron a las mismas instituciones por otras patologías. La ingesta alta de vegetales de hojas verdes (más de 40 g/d) actuaría como factor protector (Odd Ratio ajustado= 0,10; IC 95%= 0,02-0,63; p=0,01), modificando el efecto negativo de la exposición solar. En cambio, los resultados obtenidos para frutas, crucíferas, vegetales ricos en vitamina A y carotenos y otros vegetales no resultaron estadísticamente significativos. Abstract: The potential use of natural cyclodextrins and their synthetic derivatives have been studied extensively in pharmaceutical research and development to modify certain properties of hydrophobic drugs. The ability of these host molecules of including guest molecules within their cavities improves notably the physicochemical properties of poorly soluble drugs, such as albendazole, the first chosen drug to treat gastrointestinal helminthic infections. Thus, the aim of this work was to synthesize a beta cyclodextrin citrate derivative, to analyze its ability to form complexes with albendazole and to evaluate its solubility and dissolution rate. The synthesis progress of the cyclodextrin derivative was followed by electrospray mass spectrometry and the acid-base titration of the product. The derivative exhibited an important drug affinity. Nuclear magnetic resonance experiments demonstrated that the tail and the aromatic ring of the drug were inside the cavity of the cyclodextrin derivative. The inclusion complex was prepared by spray drying and full characterized. The drug dissolution rate displayed exceptional results, achieving 100% drug release after 20 minutes. The studies indicated that the inclusion complex with the cyclodextrin derivative improved remarkably the physicochemical properties of albendazole, being a suitable excipient to design oral dosage forms.

Abstract: an important disease affecting the yield of corn crops is known as mal de río cuarto. delphacodes kuscheli is the most important vector. the objective of this work was to determine the vector capacity of a new species, tagosodes orizicolus, both in the field and under experimental conditions. transmission trials were carried out on both species simultaneously. for acquisition, latency and infection the times considered optimum for d. kuscheli were used. the plants were analyzed by das-elisa. salivary glands of t. orizicolus were observed by electron microscopy. in experimental tests, values of percentages of transmission of 10% for t. orizicolus and 42% for d. kuscheli were obtained. the ultra-fine sections of the salivary glands of t. orizicolus showed the aggregation of viral particles 70 nm in diameter. vectoral capacity could not be proven under natural conditions from a test conducted with insects captured in the field. likewise, for the first time wheat, barley and triticale are mentioned as suitable crops for breeding t. orizicolus. these results show t. orizicolus to be a species of epidemiological interest in the northeast of argentina due to the proven capacity of acquiring and transmitting this viral agent under experimental conditions.
Diversidad de helechos y licófitas de la Reserva Natural Punta Lara, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Abstract: Hasta el a o 1987 el número de helechos y licofitas citados para la Reserva Punta Lara era de 30, incluyendo taxa específicos e infraespecíficos. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la diversidad de los helechos y licofitas que crecen en esta reserva, donde se halla el relicto más austral de las selvas en galería. Para llevar a cabo este estudio se realizaron viajes de campo durante los a os 2006-2009 y se consultaron herbarios locales así como bibliografía especializada. Como resultado del estudio se determinaron 24 taxa de helechos y licofitas, de hábito predominantemente terrestre (70%); pocas acuáticas (17%) y epífitas (13%); dos especies exóticas, mientras que otras dos especies nativas citadas previamente no fueron halladas. Cinco taxa fueron registrados con escasa frecuencia. Se infiere que las principales causas de amenaza para las poblaciones de licofitas y helechos en la Reserva Natural Punta Lara son la extracción para su comercialización, la introducción de plantas exóticas y las fluctuaciones climáticas (periodos de sequía). Se presenta una clave de identificación de los taxa registrados y se plantean futuras estrategias de conservación de las especies consideradas vulnerables. Diversity of ferns and lycophytes from Reserva Natural Punta Lara, Buenos Aires , Argentina. Punta Lara Natural Reserve shelters the relict of the Southernmost riparian forest in the world, where the flora is threatened by the anthropic expansion and by the introduction of exotic species. In this area the ferns and lycophytes grow in particular environments as marshland, grassland and marginal forest. The aim of this work was to evaluate the diversity of ferns and lycophytes that inhabit in Punta Lara Natural Reserve. Field trips were conducted from 2006 to 2009 and local herbaria and specific bibliography were also revised. As a result of our study twenty four taxa of ferns and lycophytes were recognized. Their habit was mainly terrestrial (70%), fewer aquatic (17%) and epiphytic (13%). Five native taxa were scarcely recorded whereas two native species previously documented were not found. We assume that the main threats on ferns and lycophytes populations in Punta Lara Reserve are: removal for comercialization, invasion by exotic species and climatic fluctuations (drought periods). Keys for taxa identification are given and strategies for the conservation of threatened taxa are proposed. Rev. Biol. Trop. 59 (3): 1037-1046. Epub 2011 September 01.
Automatic Feature Interaction Analysis in PacoSuite

Abstract: In this paper, we build upon previous work that aims at recuperating aspect oriented ideas into component based software development. In that research, a composition adapter was proposed in order to capture crosscutting concerns in the PacoSuite component based methodology. A composition adapter is visually applied onto a given component composition and the changes it describes are automatically applied. Stacking multiple composition adapters onto the same component composition can however lead to unpredictable and undesired side-effects. In this paper, we propose a solution for this issue, widely known as the feature interaction problem. We present a classification of different interaction levels among composition adapters and the algorithms required to verify them. The proposed algorithms are however of exponential nature and depend on both the composition adapters and the component composition as a whole. In order to enhance the performance of our feature interaction analysis, we present a set of theorems that define the interaction levels solely in terms of the properties of the composition adapters themselves.
