The Draw-a-Family Picture Test (DAFPT): A New Projective Test for Children  [PDF]
Manuela Policarpio-Gutierrez
Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2018.68013
Abstract: The Draw-a-Family-Picture-Test (DAFPT) is a new projective test instrument developed to facilitate understanding of children. It comes with a guide for administration and interpretation. Evaluation of the test revealed that it is generally very fit for determining children’s attitude, fears, needs, maturity level, stressors, gender tendencies and self-perception in relation to their family and significant others. Wide use of the instrument is therefore encouraged. Nonetheless, as the researcher believes that perfection can only be attained through time and modifications, it is suggested that this test be subjected for further study and necessary improvement if ever.
Molecular Neuropathology of TDP-43 Proteinopathies
Manuela Neumann
International Journal of Molecular Sciences , 2009, DOI: 10.3390/ijms10010232
Abstract: The identification of TDP-43 as the major component of the pathologic inclusions in most forms of sporadic and familial frontotemporal lobar degeneration with ubiquitin-positive inclusions (FTLD-U) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) resolved a long-standing enigma concerning the nature of the ubiquitinated disease protein under these conditions. Anti-TDP-43 immunohistochemistry and the recent development of novel tools, such as phosphorylation-specific TDP-43 antibodies, have increased our knowledge about the spectrum of pathological changes associated with FTLD-U and ALS and moreover, facilitated the neuropathological routine diagnosis of these conditions. This review summarizes the recent advances in our understanding on the molecular neuropathology and pathobiology of TDP-43 in FTLD and ALS.
Women’s Voice and Religious Utterances in Ancient Greece
Manuela Giordano
Religions , 2011, DOI: 10.3390/rel2040729
Abstract: This paper tackles the issue of women and religion through a particular looking glass: religious utterances such as curses, supplication, and prayer, as reflected in some passages from ancient Greek epic and tragedy—pivotal literary genres in the ideological discourse of the Greek polis.
La estructura social agraria en el partido de Pehuajó (2010)
Mundo agrario , 2011,
Abstract: as a product of the ongoing transformations in the agricultural sector in argentina, recent debates in the social sciences have compared the new characteristics of development with older forms. inside this field of debates, the question of the agrarian actors at present has been particularly relevant. though their exists a great quantity of works that approach the problems of the actors, few analyses make reference to their productive roles. the present article presents a case study of pehuajó's party. it provides a description of the social agrarian structure, focusing on the forms in which production develops as a result of the links between different actors, and establishing "rupture" points that caracterize the older forms of development
Nesting ecology of a neotropical solitary wasp (Hymenoptera: Sphecidae) in Panamá
Giovanetti, Manuela;
Neotropical Entomology , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-566X2005000500002
Abstract: cerceris is a very interesting genus, providing species living in all continents, in different climatic conditions, showing behaviors ranging from solitary to social. about the nesting habit of this genus, many authors described nest characteristics and prey, providing useful material for comparison. yet, the majority of species studied so far live in temperate regions and we lack information about the tropical ones. the high number of species and their wide distribution suggest a phylogenetic adaptability that merit to be studied deeper. i investigated nest and prey of a tropical species, cerceris binodis spinola, on barro colorado nature monument in panamá. the study was performed during three dry seasons, marking and excavating nests, observing individual's behavior and collecting prey. the nests, reused over the same season and in following years, are especially deep as observed only in another neotropical species, cerceris lutzi scullen . this result could be correlated with tropical soils depth and characteristics. in spite of the species being sexually dimorphic, the subterranean cells show no bimodality in size or content. prey, identified from specimens carried by provisioning females, belongs to clytrinae (coleoptera: chrysomelidae). quantitative data on prey are analyzed comparing seasons and sites and differences emerged. cerceris adaptability to ecological trait of the tropics is inferred to explain these differences as well as the ones observed in the nest structure.
Paradoxos, fluidez e ambiguidade do pensamento simbólico (o caso ruwund): para uma crítica a alguns modelos de análise
Etnográfica , 2008,
Abstract: the concept of ?versions? or ?variants? has been crucial in the analyses of oral traditions. when dealing with central african narratives of state foundation, however, the use of versions as somewhat rigid and self-contained texts leads to the emergence of apparently inconsistent and contradictory statements. africanist historians assume that these statements should be questioned for ?accuracy? and ?authenticity?; structuralists reduce these inconsistencies to rather static oppositions. both approaches, i hope to demonstrate, risk to obliterate the extreme complexity, richness and, above all, overwhelming suppleness of these narratives. a presentation of the account on the foundation of kingship as told by the aruwund of the democratic republic of the congo shows that this oral tradition should be better understood as a ?constellation? of what will be called ?minor narratives?, recalled upon or else omitted to convey different levels of specificity and diverse symbolic emphases to the narrations. this, together with the fluidity conferred to the relationships among ruwund titleholders by the classificatory nature of the system of ?perpetual kinship?, accounts for many of the apparent contradictions and makes ruwund ideological thought a ground constantly open to different claims and interpretations. the reading of the material presented suggests paradox, ambiguity and fluidity as intrinsic qualities of these narratives and the mechanisms upon which symbolic thought is built. in doing so, this article aims at steering away from both historical approaches and the fixity of the dichotomous models so often applied to the analysis of symbolism and oral tradition.
Fronteras, comunidades indígenas y acumulación de violencias
Camus, Manuela;
Desacatos , 2012,
Abstract: mayan communities in guatemala has historically formed from the axis of the constituent and persistent violence.in the colony,the republic and the war from 70s to the last century,currently joins the violence produced by the incorporation of these suburbs to the global order: the "megaprojects" and the exploitation of natural resources, the expanding of drug trafficking or migration to united states. capitalization "for themselves" because of the resources transferred by the massive incorporation of indigenous peoples to this exodus to "the north" introduces disordered urbanization and modernization, and sociocultural paradoxes.this set of transformations creates new dependencies and violence as part of everyday, radically defying community life. this article explores the case of the department of huehuetenango, border with mexico.

Desigualdad social reconsiderada - descubriendo puntos ciegos a través de vistas desde abajo
Tabula Rasa , 2009,
Abstract: on the basis of arguments put forth by gender studies, dependency/world-system approaches as well as by present-day latin american postcolonial theories, the paper pleads for a global sociology of social inequality premised on three substantive correctives of the mainstream social inequality research: first, a shift from the focus on the nation-state as sole unit of analysis to a global focus encompassing worldwide center-periphery relations alongside nationwide and regional inequalities and the connections between them; second, a systematic and explicit engagement with the theories of social change implicit in concepts of social inequality and the conclusions entailed for the corresponding definition of modernity and the modern; and third, an emphasis on the dynamics behind the emergence of categories along which inequality structures were historically constructed, i.e., on processes of othering such as gendering, racialization, and ethnicization, rather than static categories such as gender, race, and ethnicity.
Education and mass media: an example of workshop teaching Educazione ai mass media. Un esempio di didattica laboratoriale
Manuela Fabbri
Ricerche di Pedagogia e Didattica , 2010,
Abstract: The educational strategy of the workshop provides a learning experience in the form of research, active experimentation with knowledge building strategies by individuals or groups working in autonomy using their own existing knowledge and creativity in problem solving activities, thus “learning by doing”. It consists of actively deconstructing and constructing, destroying and recreating in a new form, setting objectives and discussing in groups, undergoing experimental testing and evaluating the results. In essence, the function of the teacher is that of a councillor who provides “soft” support through scaffolding and takes care to provide the necessary space for children in the process of shared knowledge-building. Starting out with a number of reflections regarding the workshop described in this article, we move on to analyse the educational value of television and its positive and negative potential. The starting point is the provocative representation of the deconstruction of a media message by way of an analysis of its different narrative and graphic phases paying particular attention to meaning and the means used to convey it in filmic language.
