Origin and Evolution of Life Constraints on the Solar Model  [PDF]
K Michaelian, O Manuel
Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2011.226068
Abstract: Life arose as a non-equilibrium thermodynamic process to dissipate the photon potential generated by the hot Sun and cold outer space. Evidence from the geochemical record of the evolutionary history of life on Earth suggests that life originated in a hot aqueous environment dissipating UV light and evolved later to dissipate visible light. This evidence places constraints on models of solar origin and evolution. The standard solar model seems less compatible with the data than does the pulsar centered solar model.
"From freeze with moths": first discovery of a habitat in Andean Salars for noctuid moths
Angulo, Andrés O.;Camao, Andrés;Angulo, Gino A.;
Neotropical Entomology , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-566X2006000400020
Abstract: noctuid moths flutter in the high andes nights at 4,000 m. s. n. m. their larvae feed on aerial or underground parts of succulent plants. many of these species are new to science. strategies and adaptations of the moths for survival in the high andes mountains are: a circulatory system that includes an abdominal thoracic countercurrent heat exchanger, and they are insulated from the environment by a coat of dense hair like scales. recently, during january and july 2004, in the northern desert of chile, called salar de punta negra, under the salt crust we found a large number of pupae and larvae that correspond to three new species of noctuid moth - this pupation site is located in a 10 m wide area surrounding a water body; the mean observed density is 13 to 15 pupae per 100 cm2. this is a new extreme habitat conquered by noctuid moths.

Anales de Medicina Interna , 2001, DOI: 10.4321/S0212-71992001000300009
Abstract: the antiphospholipid syndrome coexisting with lupus has been associated to wide variety of clinical manifestations, mostly linked to focal ischaemia or infarction. acute multi-organ failure occurring in patients with these autoantibodies is named catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome because the high mortality. on the other hand, the term retractile mesenteritis is applied to the circumstance in which, an chronic inflammatory process with thickening and infiltration of the mesenterium occur, due to ischaemic mechanism, among many other multiple causes. we describe one patient with concomitance of antiphospholipid syndrome, evidence of abdominal ischaemia and retractile mesenteritis. the patient developed catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome, probably due to infectious process and, antithrombotic therapy supression because upper gastrointestinal bleeding, and dead.
