Psychology (PSYCH) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2012.34044
Abstract: Several studies have revealed the existence of a maladaptive pattern of video game use whose symptoms are quite similar to those of the disorder referred to as “abuse” in the DSM-IV-TR (APA, 2000). The aim of this paper is to examine the psychosocial characteristics of the adolescent video game abusers and to compare them with the risk factors that the literature associates with substance dependence. For this pur- pose, two groups (“problem” and “social” players) were formed with 236 Spanish adolescents aged be- tween 12 and 17 years, by means of the Problem Video Game Playing questionnaire (PVP; Tejeiro & Bersabe, 2002), and their psychosocial characteristics were then analyzed by means of a wide battery of tests. Only 37.3% of the problem players showed a psychosocial pattern similar to the risk factors for de- pendence; an integral model of maladaptive behavior is discussed as explanation for these persons’ video game abuse. The other 69.6% of “problem players” only differed from the “social players” in their over- use of video games (but not in other psychosocial factors); the social learning approach is suggested for these adolescents’ behavior.

Abstract: This program consists of a total of 102 houses. They are situated in one of the housing estates in the General Urbanization Plan of the Móstoles Town Council (Town on outskirts of Madrid). The development of the prototypes of three different types of housing is to be studied with the aim of studying the experimental results of each one: — Progressive housing. — Housing with passive solar energy — Housing constructed on a basis of a special system in series. The three have the common aim of achieving finanical saving, but by different means: initial investment, saving in energy expenditure, the constructive system. The group of houses is about to be delivered into the hands of its users. We regret the incompleteness of the Information due to the lack of the most important results; the derivatives of its use and development, and Information of a social, economic, cultural, etc., character.
Taking advantage of photometric galaxy catalogues to determine the halo occupation distribution

Physics , 2015, DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361/201525798
Abstract: Context. Halo occupation distribution (HOD) is a powerful statistic that allows the study of several aspects of the matter distribution in the Universe, such as evaluating semi-analytic models of galaxy formation or imposing constraints on cosmological models. Consequently, it is important to have a reliable method for estimating this statistic, taking full advantage of the available information on current and future galaxy surveys. Aims. The main goal of this project is to combine photometric and spectroscopic information using a discount method of background galaxies in order to extend the range of absolute magnitudes and to increase the upper limit of masses in which the HOD is estimated. We also evaluate the proposed method and apply it to estimating the HOD on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7 (SDSS DR7) galaxy survey. Methods. We propose the background subtraction technique to mel information provided by spectroscopic galaxy groups and photometric survey of galaxies. To evaluate the feasibility of the method, we implement the proposed technique on a mock catalogue built from a semi-analytic model of galaxy formation. Furthermore, we apply the method to the SDSS DR7 using a galaxy group catalogue taken from spectroscopic version and the corresponding photometric galaxy survey. Results. We demonstrated the validity of the method using the mock catalogue. We applied this technique to obtain the SDSS DR7 HOD in absolute magnitudes ranging from $M=-21.5$ to $M=-16.0$ and masses up to $\simeq 10^{15} M_{\odot}$ throughout this range. On the brighter extreme, we found that our results are in excellent agreement with those obtained in previous works.

Abstract: Efficient protocols for the isolation of specific citrus cell types, namely laminar abscission zone (LAZ) and petiolar cortical (Pet) cells based on laser capture microdissection (LCM) and for RNA microextraction and amplification have been developed. A comparative transcriptome analysis between LAZ and Pet from citrus leaf explants subjected to an in-vitro 24 h ethylene treatment was performed utilising microarray hybridization and analysis. Our analyses of gene functional classes differentially represented in ethylene-treated LAZ revealed an activation program dominated by the expression of genes associated with protein synthesis, protein fate, cell type differentiation, development and transcription. The extensive repertoire of genes associated with cell wall biosynthesis and metabolism strongly suggests that LAZ layers activate both catabolic and anabolic wall modification pathways during the abscission program. In addition, over-representation of particular members of different transcription factor families suggests important roles for these genes in the differentiation of the effective cell separation layer within the many layers contained in the citrus LAZ. Preferential expression of stress-related and defensive genes in Pet reveals that this tissue is likely to be reprogrammed to prevent pathogen attacks and general abiotic stresses after organ shedding. The LCM-based data generated in this survey represent the most accurate description of the main biological processes and genes involved in organ abscission in citrus. This study provides novel molecular insight into ethylene-promoted leaf abscission and identifies new putative target genes for characterization and manipulation of organ abscission in citrus.Abscission of plant organs takes place through a highly coordinated sequence of biochemical events that occur in a discrete group of cells located in predictable positions in the plant, known as abscission zones (AZs) [1].
