Soil water resources use limit in the loess plateau of China  [PDF]

Soil water is a key factor limiting plant growth in water-limited regions. Without limit of soil water used by plants, soil degradation in the form of soil desiccation is easy to take place in the perennial forestland and grassland with too higher density or productivity. Soil water resources use limit (SWRUL) is the lowest control limit of soil water resources which is used by plants in those regions. It can be defined as soil water storage within the maximum infiltration depth in which all of soil layers belong to dried soil layers. In this paper, after detailed discussion of characteristics of water resources and the relationship between soil water and plant growth in the Loess Plateau, the definition, quantitative method, and practical applications of SWRUL are introduced. Henceforth, we should strengthen the study of SWRUL and have a better understanding of soil water resources. All those are of great importance for designing effective restoration project and sustainable management of soil water resources in water- limited regions in the future.

Identification and Effect Decomposition of Risk Factors for Brucella Contamination of Raw Whole Milk in China

Abstract: Background Lack of clear risk factor identification is the main reason for the persistence of brucellosis infection in the Chinese population, and there has been little assessment of the factors contributing to Brucella contamination of raw whole milk. The purpose of this study was to identify risk factors affecting Brucella contamination of raw milk, and to evaluate effective measures for disease reduction in order to determine preventive strategies. Methods and Findings A nationwide survey was conducted and samples were obtained from 5211 cows corresponding to 25 sampling locations throughout 15 provinces in China. The prevalence of Brucella in the raw milk samples averaged 1.07% over the 15 Chinese provinces, while the prevalence of positive areas within these regions ranged from 0.23–3.84% among the nine provinces with positive samples. The survey examined factors that supposedly influence Brucella contamination of raw whole milk, such as management style, herd size, abortion rate, hygiene and disease control practices. A binary logistic regression analysis was carried out to determine the association between risk factors for Brucella and contamination of milk samples. Furthermore, a relative effect decomposition study was conducted to determine effective strategies for reducing the risk of Brucella contamination of raw whole milk. Our data indicate that disease prevention and control measures, abortion rate, and animal polyculture are the most important risk factors. Meanwhile, culling after quarantine was identified as an effective protective measure in the current Chinese dairy situation. Conclusions These results indicate that, although there is a low risk of contamination of milk with Brucella nationwide in China, there are individual regions where contamination is a significant problem. Controlling three factors–culling after quarantine, maintaining a low abortion rate, and avoiding mixing groups of cattle and small ruminants–could effectively reduce the risk of Brucella contamination of raw whole milk.

Abstract: 基于“一般系统论中系统演化”的思想、“Thornes关于植被和土壤侵蚀耦合模型”等思路,构建了农业生态经济系统耦合过程的基础模型和扩展模型。通过该模型能够揭示农业“生态—经济”的互动过程、确定农业经济系统影响生态系统的临界点,这对于开发利用农业资源、制定农业生态经济系统可持续发展方案具有重要的现实意义。以纸坊沟流域20余年农业生态经济系统演变资料为基础,借鉴已有研究结果,通过对“模型”参数的计算,建立了反映纸坊沟流域不同情境下农业生态经济系统耦合过程模型,结果表明:按照农业生态经济系统现状演变轨迹,农业生态系统自我调节的临界点为en(t)=1.22×el(t);如果继续完善系统循环,强化“林草资源-畜牧业”链网,在生态系统阈值范围内可增强经济系统功能;如果停止“退耕”而出现复垦,生态系统自我调节的临界点变为en(t)=0.69×el(t),单位生态系统功能减弱。为此,必须稳定退耕还林工程,促进农业资源合理、高效利用,加速产业优化升级,这样方能实现农业生态经济系统健康、持续发展。

Abstract: The objective of this work was to develop an adsorption resin for removing aromatic acid contaminations of aqueous environment.The macroporous polydivinylbenzene/poly(methyl acrylate) interpenetrating polymer network was prepared by sequential suspension polymerization method;it was then converted to the hydrophobic-hydrophilic macroporous polydivinylbenzene/poly(N-2-aminoethylacrylamide) interpenetrating polymer network(PDVB/PNAEAM IPN) by aminolysis with ethylenediamine.The hydrophobic PDVB part in PDVB/PNAEAM IPN resin has the ability of adsorption through hydrophobic interaction;on the other hand the hydrophilic PNAEAM part has the ability of adsorption by means of hydrogen bonding.For the adsorption studies salicylic acid was chosen as the representative of aromatic acids,because there is a hydrophobic benzene ring and a hydrophilic hydroxyl group in the molecule.The pore structure,the weak base exchange capacity,the water retention capacity and the swelling ratio of PDVB/PNAEAM IPN resin were measured.The adsorption isotherms of salicylic acid at different temperatures were studied.Isothermal adsorption enthalpy,Gibbs free energy and entropy were calculated according to thermodynamic equations.The saturated adsorption capacity for salicylic acid was up to 46.1 mg/mL(wet resin) according to the dynamic adsorption and desorption experiments.The resin can be regenerated by 4% NaOH.The results of adsorption for salicylic acid indicate that the PDVB/PNAEAM IPN resin may have a promising prospect in separating aromatic acid from waste water in industry.
The Quasi-Static Approximation of Heat Waves in Anisotropic Thermo-Elastic Media  [PDF]

Abstract: The equilibrium equations of anisotropic media, coupled to the heat conduction equations, are studied here based on the standard spaces of the physical presentation, in which an new thermo-elastic model based on the second law of thermodynamics is induced. The uncoupled heat wave equation for anisotropic media is deduced. The results show that the equation of heat wave is of the properties of dissipative waves. In final part of this paper, we discuss the propagation behaviour of heat waves for transversely isotropic media.

Abstract: The static electromagnetic fields are studied here based on the standard spaces of the physical presentation, and the modal equations of static electromagnetic fields for anisotropic media are deduced. By introducing a set of new potential functions of order 2, several novel theoretical results were obtained: The classical potential functions of order 1 can be expressed by the new potential functions of order 2, the electric or magnetic potentials are scalar for isotropic media, and vector for anisotropic media. The amplitude and direction of the vector potentials are related to the anisotropic subspaces. Based on these results, we discuss the laws of static electromagnetic fields for anisotropic media.

Abstract: The number of electronic commerce (e-commerce) transactions has grown extraordinarily with widespread Internet usage. The right to privacy is particularly important in e-commerce. Recently, the privacy protection for consumer transactions has become more and more important in e-commerce. This paper aims to develop the study on the legislation of e-commerce consumer rights protection. It is a comparative study on relevant regulations of the right to privacy in European Union, the United States, and Japan. The most representative policy might be the Data Protection Directive in the EU, which not only regulates the principle for e-commerce consumer right to privacy protection, but also lays out specific criteria to be abided. The current status and existing problems in China are also analyzed and some suggestions are made to improve the legal system of right to privacy. The paper identifies directions for the future development of the privacy protection from a legal perspective.

Abstract: In this paper, I systematically analyze the new Japanese Patent Law and make a comparative study on Chinese and Japanese Patent Law to shed a new light on the improvement of the legal system of intellectual property in China. To begin with, I review the historical development of Japanese Patent Law and the modern patent legal system in Japan. Next, the aim and contents of the latest revision of Japanese Patent Law are described. I also pay close attention to the issues remaining unresolved. Regarding the problems faced by Chinese Patent Law, I identify the lessons that China could learn from Japanese New Patent Law. Finally, I suggest that there are still some unresolved issues in Chinese Patent Law even after learning from the new Japanese Patent Law.

Abstract: Generally, the procedure for Solving Security constrained unit commitment (SCUC) problems within Lagrangian Relaxation framework is partitioned into two stages: one is to obtain feasible SCUC states; the other is to solve the economic dispatch of generation power among all the generating units. The core of the two stages is how to determine the feasibility of SCUC states. The existence of ramp rate constraints and security constraints increases the difficulty of obtaining an analytical necessary and sufficient condition for determining the quasi-feasibility of SCUC states at each scheduling time. However, a numerical necessary and sufficient numerical condition is proposed and proven rigorously based on Benders Decomposition Theorem. Testing numerical example shows the effectiveness and efficiency of the condition.
The Application of Ontology in Semantic Discovery for GeoData Web Service  [PDF]

GeoData Web service is an important way to achieve the integration and sharing of heterogeneous geospatial data at present. However, due to the complexity of GeoData and no sematic supporting Webservice discovery, it is very hard for data users to accurately find the GeoData WebService they really want. In order to make it easy for users to quickly and accurately find the GeoData Web Service they want in semantic level, this article firstly, constructs MetaData Ontololy, and uses MetaData Ontology to describe the related semantic information for GeoData Web Service. Then it comes up with a new way of computing the degree of semantic similarity among concepts based on Ontology. Finally, it realizes the automatic discovery for GeoData Web Service based on semantic matching. The experiment result shows that the way in this article can dramatically improve the accuracy and intelligence of GeoData Web Service discovery.
