Abstract: the objective of this work was to compare the substitution method and the regression analysis method to determine the nutritional value of defatted rice bran in diets for swines at growing and finishing phases. two digestibility bioassays were carried out with 16 barrows with initial body weight of 50.0±3.1 kg, in the growing phase, and 16 barrows with initial body weight of 95.0±3.8 kg, in the finishing phase, housed in metabolic cages. a completely randomized design was used with four treatments - 0, 15, 30 and 45% of substitution of the reference diet by defatted rice bran - and four replications, with one animal as the experimental unit. the regression analysis was more accurate than the method of substitution to assess the nutritional value of defatted rice bran. throught this analyse, the apparent digestibility coefficients of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein and metabolizable energy of defatted rice bran were, respectively, 57.7, 64.8, 56.6% and 2,429 kcal kg-1 on growing phase, and 57.7, 64.7, 62.6% and 2,233 kcal kg-1 on finishing phase.

Abstract: The evaluation of the significance of environmental impacts remains an important critical yet poorly understood component of environmental impact assessment (EIA) practice. This work is a study upon the findings of a bibliographic review about the evaluation and communication of environmental impact assessment in Brazil practice. Particular attention is given to the use of significance criteria, thresholds and EIA methodologies intending to incorporate more efficiency of environmental impact statement. Thus, the aim of this research was the accomplishment of a proposal including the development of procedures to apply in EIA issues surrounding the formulation, application and interpretation of significance criteria, conclusions and recommendations relevant to respect the aim of EIA that in provide environmental viability of men activities.Key-words: impact significance, methods of environmental impact assessment.

Abstract: ninety six cobb male broilers from 21 to 31 days of age were fed including short chain fatty acids (scfa) and different level of calcium. calcium (ca), phosphorus (p), balance, dry, organic and mineral matter metabolizability, crude energy and crude protein metabolizability, tibia ash percentage and animal performance were measured. experimental diets were assigned in a 5x4 factorial arrangement (without acids, formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid and butyric acid) x (0.40, 0.59, 0.78 and 0.97% of ca) in a randomized completely design. increasing ca levels affected positively and in a quadratic form ca and p balance and the best levels were estimated at 0,87% and 0,75% of ca dietary, respectively and affected linearly dry, organic matter metabolizability and tibia ash percentage. however, the efficiency of ca retention was decreased quadratically with the increase of ca level. the scfa did not show detectable effects on the studied responses, and no interaction with dietary levels of ca used. the estimated ca requirement considering calcium balance was 0.87%.

Abstract: the effects of vitamin e and selenium (se) supplementation on the immunity of hens vaccinated against a mixture of six swine-pathogenic escherichia coli (ec) and avian encephalomyelitis virus (aev) were studied. antibody production (abp) was evaluated in ninety 49 to 57-week-old h&n nick chick hens fed diets containing 14iu vitamin e kg-1 (basal diet), 27, 59, 111, or 111iu vitamin e kg-1 + 0.56ppm se supplementation. at 51 wks of age, half of the hens were vaccinated against ec, and all birds were vaccinated against aev. at 53-weeks of age, the birds received a second dose of ec vaccine. blood samples were collected weekly and serum was analyzed by elisa for anti-ec igy and was expressed as optical density (od). vaccinated hens had higher serum od than the non-vaccinated hens (p£0.05). vaccinated hens fed 27 and 59iu of vitamin e/kg had a higher (p<0.05) serum od than hens fed 111iu + se. neither ec nor aev seem to be appropriate models for the study of the influence of micronutrients on immune responsiveness of older hens.

Abstract: "fast sex" venues, namely sites for prostitution, are places where a masculine ethos is constructed. i studied emotions, especially those related to pleasure, among contumacious clients. this paper is based on qualitative analysis of narratives posted at a virtual community of fast sex consumers, where members score the service provided by girls at several male spas in rio de janeiro. by looking at those reports, called "test drives" by the group under observation, i seek to reflect on the context in which the emotion of pleasure is felt during a "programa" (sex service session), and those when it is described as absent. in both cases, i aim to understand how emotions shaped by prostitute-client interaction can interfere with the achievement of pleasure as the result of a programa.

Abstract: This paper describes the major environmental aspects related to the cultivation of rice. Rice is one of the most important agricultural products and it is cultivated in almost all countries in the world. Its production requires usually large flooded areas. Under these conditions, many greenhouse gases are generated, such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxides and its derivatives. Cultivation of rice is responsible by the release of relevant amounts of these gases and contributes decisively to global warming. In this sense, the major points described here are general environmental aspects, the mechanisms of production of greenhouse gases, bioremediation, mitigation using other techniques and possible improvements of the cultivation by fertilizers and chemicals.

Abstract: the objective of the present work was to determine the chemical and sensorial characteristics of coffee from chapada de minas, due to the need of creating precise scientific parameters which could be used to determine its quality. three kg of coffee samples were collected from some counties of chapada de minas on which the following coffee grain chemical analysis were performed: polyphenoloxidase activity, total titratable acidity and color index. the customary "cup test" was conducted by professional tasters from copacafé. according to the chemical analysis, coffee samples from the north of minas gerais presented higher polyphenoloxidase activity and color index as well as lower acidity when compared to the other studied regions, thus indicating a higher quality. in the "cup test", coffee samples were classified as a hard beverage, with no significant differences among the studied regions. the chemical analysis provided a more precise and objective classification than the "cup test" regarding the quality.
