Antropologia, etnografia e narrativa: caminhos que se cruzam na compreens?o do processo saúde-doen?a
Costa, Gabriela M.C.;Gualda, Dulce M.R.;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702010000400005
Abstract: the article discusses anthropology, ethnographic method, and narrative as possible ways of coming to know subjects' experiences and the feelings they attribute to them. from an anthropological perspective, the sociocultural universe is taken as a point of reference in understanding the meaning of the processes of health and sickness, using a dense ethnographic description from an interpretivist analytical approach. in this context, narratives afford possible paths to understanding how subjective human experiences are shared and how behavior is organized, with a special focus on meaning, the process by which stories are produced, relations between narrator and other subjects, processes of knowledge, and the manifold ways in which experience can be captured.

Planta Daninha , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-83582008000400013
Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of applying different commercial formulations of glyphosate (roundup transorb?, zapp qi?, roundup na? e scout?) on the ability of two bacterial isolates (to 11 and to 66) to solubilize different inorganic phosphates. the ability to solubilize bacterial isolate phosphate was evaluated in relation to three inorganic phosphate sources (calcium, aluminum, and iron phosphates) in the presence of different commercial formulations of glyphosate, at the concentration of 60 mg l-1 acid equivalent, and control treatment without the addition of the herbicides. the effects of the commercial formulations of glyphosate on each bacterial isolate were distinct. roundup transorb and zapp qi led to a significant decrease in the phosphate-solubilizing activity of to 66, while the reverse was observed for scout. to 11 did not show significant differences in phosphate solubilization in the presence of the commercial formulations tested. roundup na and scout did not change the ability to solubilize phosphate of bacterial isolates, while roundup transorb and zapp qi led to a decrease in the solubilizing activity.

Revista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de S?o Paulo , 1995, DOI: 10.1590/S0036-46651995000200002
Abstract: the aim of this study was to determine the value of blood culture as a parameter of treatment effectiveness in experimental histoplasmosis. a total of thirty five hamsters, weighing approximately 120g, were inoculated intracardiacly with 0.1 ml of a suspension containing 4 x 107 cells/ml of the yeast phase of h. capsulatum. treatments were started one week after the infection and lasted for 3 weeks. the azoles, (itraconazole, saperconazole and fluconazole) were administered once a day by gavage, at a dose of 8 mg/kg; amphotericin b was given intraperitonealy every other day at a dose of 6mg/kg. blood samples (1 ml) were obtained by heart punction from the 4th day after infection and were seeded in sabouraud honey-agar and bhi-agar. the hamsters that survived were killed one week after treatment completion and the following criteria were considered for treatment evaluation: 1) rate of spontaneous death, at the end of the experience; 2) microscopic examination of giemsa smears from liver and spleen and 3) determination of cfu in spleen cultures. amphotericin b was the most effective drug, with negative blood cultures at day 20, negative spleen cultures in all cases and all the animals survived until the end of the study. fluconazole was the less effective drug, blood cultures were positive during the whole experience, spleen cultures showed a similar average of cfu when compared with the control animals and 42.8% of these animals died. saperconazole and itraconazole showed a similar activity, with survival of all hamsters and negative blood cultures at 23 and 26 days respectively. blood culture seems to be valuable parameter for treatments' evaluation in experimental histoplasmosis of the hamster.

Neurology International , 2012, DOI: 10.4081/ni.2012.e17
Abstract: The aim of the study was to review the epidemiology, clinical profile and discuss the etiology, prognosis and treatment options in patients aged 60 years or older presenting with status epilepticus. We performed a systematic review involving studies published from 1996 to 2010, in Medline/PubMed, Scientific Electronic Library on line (Scielo), Latin-American and Caribbean Center of Health Sciences Information (Lilacs) databases and textbooks. Related articles published before 1996, when relevant for discussing epilepsy in older people, were also included. Several population studies had shown an increased incidence of status epilepticus after the age of 60 years. Status epilepticus is a medical and neurological emergency that is associated with high morbidity and mortality, and is a major concern in the elderly compared to the general population. Prompt diagnosis and effective treatment of convulsive status epilepticus are crucial to avoid brain injury and reduce the fatality rate in this age group.

Abstract: Introducción. Introduction. Planta Daninha , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-83582011000200025
Abstract: the objective of this study was to evaluate the quantity and quality of spray deposition in commelina diffusa plants, considering application volume, spray nozzles and the angle of the bar of the spray nozzles. five stems of plants/pot were planted. the experimental treatments were set up on a randomized design with twenty replications. the experiment was carried out under greenhouse conditions and the solution was applied after 40 days of stem transplanting, when the plants were between 30 to 40 cm long (in full development). five spray nozzles (tx-vk 6 (100 l ha1 ), tx-vk 8 (200 l ha-1), xr 11001 vs (100 l ha-1), xr 11002 vs (200 l ha-1) and tj60 11002 vs (100 and 200 l ha-1), were evaluated, using different angles of application (0o and +30o), except for tj60 11002 vs nozzle. brilliant blue fdc 1 was used as a tracer solution, with 500 ppm to determine spray deposition. immediately after application, twenty weed stems were collected, and washed in 100 ml of distilled water for posterior tracer quantification in a spectrophotometer. the data were adjusted to a regression curve, according to the gompertz model. independent of the spray nozzle used, the volume of 200 l ha-1 provided the most deposits on the plants, with the tj60 nozzle being the most outstanding. the xr 11001 vs nozzle (100 l ha-1) provided the best uniformity when an angle of +30o was used.

Abstract: arterial variations in the arm are of potential clinical implications as it is a frequent site of injury and also involved in many surgical and invasive procedures. during a dissection of the right upper extremity, an abnormal high origin of the radial and ulnar arteries was found. the brachial artery had a very short segment without any branches, divided into the radial and ulnar arteries at the upper third of the arm. the course and branching pattern of these radial and ulnar arteries in the arm are discussed. it was also observed that the profunda brachii artery was represented by two separate branches arising from the posterior circumflex humeral artery. accurate knowledge of these variation patterns is of considerable clinical importance in the conduct of reparative surgeries around the shoulder and fracture management of the humerus. these additional data of arterial anomalies to contemporary anatomical literature are of interest to clinicians, in particular vascular and plastic surgeons and radiologists.
