Incorporación de Personas Adultas a los Estudios Universitarios: Aprendizaje Permanente para Arquitectos Técnicos
Castao,Enrique M; Garín,Alberto;
Formación universitaria , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-50062012000300003
Abstract: this article describes and analyzes the experiences at the universidad europea de madrid of some academic programs specifically designed for professional workers, with schedules compatibles with their working hours, within the concept known as “permanent learning”. the situation of technical architects in spain is especially analyzed, in which these technical level professionals want to become architects. the reasons that encourage them to return to college and the various difficulties they encounter are discussed. besides describing the specific experience, the paper presents an analysis of literature information regarding adult education in similar studies and the results, from the skills training perspective, are discussed. several conclusions related to the students, the instructors, the teaching-learning system and the skill training are drawn.
Do foreign portfolio flows increase risk in emerging stock markets?: Evidence from six Latin American countries 1999-2008
Agudelo,Diego A; Castao,Milena M;
Innovar , 2011,
Abstract: foreign portfolio flows have been blamed for causing instability in emerging markets, especially during financial crises. this study measured the effect of foreign capital flows on volatility and exposure to world market risk in the six largest latin american stock markets: argentina, brazil, colombia, chile, mexico and peru, for around 10 years including the 2008 world financial crisis. this will test whether these flows cause instability for those markets and increase their exposure to international stock market returns. a proprietary database, from emerging portoflio.com and time series models, both univariate (arch-garch) and multivariate (var), are used to estimate the effect foreign portfolio flows on the risk variables and the causality of these effects. we found no strong evidence to support the hypothesis that foreign flows cause instability in the latin american stock markets, in spite of some evidence of causing price pressure. instead, the evidence points to a strong dependence of market returns on international stock and foreign exchange markets, both in means and in volatility, instrumental to transmit crisis to those markets.
Searching for pairing energies in phase space
M. Calixto,O. Casta?os,E. Romera
Physics , 2014, DOI: 10.1209/0295-5075/108/47001
Abstract: We obtain a representation of pairing energies in phase space, for the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick and general boson Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer pairing models. This is done by means of a probability distribution of the quantum state in phase space. In fact, we prove a correspondence between the points at which this probability distribution vanishes and the pairing energies. In principle, the vanishing of this probability distribution is experimentally accessible and additionally gives a method to visualize pairing energies across the model control parameter space. This result opens new ways to experimentally approach quantum pairing systems.
Modular Invariant of Quantum Tori
C. Castao Bernard,T. M. Gendron
Mathematics , 2009,
Abstract: The quantum modular invariant of a real number is defined as a discontinuous, PGL(2,Z)-invariant multi-valued map using the distance-to-the-nearest-integer function. On the rationals, the quantum modular invariant is shown to be infinity and for quadratic irrationalities PARI/GP experiments suggest it is a finite set. In the case of the golden mean, we produce explicit formulas involving weighted versions of the Rogers-Ramanujan functions for the experimental supremum and infimum of its quantum modular invariant. We then define a universal modular invariant as a continuous and single valued map of ultrasolenoids, such that 1) the classical modular invariant is a quotient of its restriction to a subsolenoid fibering over the classical moduli space of elliptic curves and 2) the quantum modular invariant is a quotient of its restriction to a subsolenoid fibering over the moduli space of elliptic curves equipped with a Kronecker foliation.
Modular Invariant of Quantum Tori II: The Golden Mean
C. Castao Bernard,T. M. Gendron
Mathematics , 2012,
Abstract: In our first article in this series ("Modular Invariant of Quantum Tori I: Definitions Nonstandard and Standard" arXiv:0909.0143) a modular invariant of quantum tori was defined. In this paper, we consider the case of the quantum torus associated to the golden mean. We show that the modular invariant is approximately 9538.249655644 by producing an explicit formula for it involving weighted versions of the Rogers-Ramanujan functions.
Simulación del efecto de la irradiación mediante el trabajado en frío y los tratamientos térmicos en dos aceros inoxidables austeníticos
de Diego, G.,Castao, M. L.,Hernández, M.
Revista de Metalurgia , 1998,
Abstract: In the present study, annealed type 304 SS was cold worked and heat treated to simúlate irradiation hardening, ductility loss and grain boundary segregation. Constant Extension Rate Tensile (CERT) tests were conducted to reproduce Irradiation Assisted Stress Corrosion Cracking (IASCC) in BWR (Boiling Water Reactor) environment.
Quesada Romero,LF; Castao Osorio,JC; Bilbao,M;
Infectio , 2009,
Abstract: the antiaparatsitic activity of ether and ethanol extract in ficus obtusifolia kunth ( moraceae) leaves and fruits was assessed against toxocara canis and toxocara catis and the antimicrobial activity against staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus pyogenes, e-coli and proteus vulgaris. likewise, phytochemical screening was conducted to determine some secondary metabolites, and their toxicity was measured with arthemia saline. ethanol fruit extract showed a better mortality rate for adult parasites in vivo and showed higher embryonic inhibition in eggs of t. canis. no extract showed an inhibition halo in the mueller-hinton agar, which indicates that there is no antimicrobial activity. increased toxicity was observed in contact with arthemia saline at 24 hours for the ethanol extract of leaves and fruit.
Cribado del cáncer de cérvix: ?la misma frecuencia para mujeres inmigrantes latinoamericanas?
González Rubio,Y.; Castao Pinto,M. S.;
Medifam , 2001, DOI: 10.4321/S1131-57682001000900005
Abstract: due to the demographic change that our country is living with the arrival of immigrants of different nationalities, we wonder if these new users of the national system of health present the same or different problems of health that the autochthonous population. in particular in this article we think about if the women coming from america of the south, immigrants' majority population in our area of health, they present different risk of suffering cancer of uterine cervical, and for they specify it changes in the screening program. looking for information in the literature has not found evidences that it is necessary to vary the intervals in the screening program, in spite of the fact that differences exist in the prevalence and in some factors of risk for this illness.
Ventrículo izquierdo no compacto/ventrículo izquierdo hipertrabeculado
Restrepo,Gustavo; Castao,Rafael I; Mármol,Alejandro;
Revista Colombiana de Cardiología , 2005,
Abstract: non-compact left ventricle/hypertrabeculated left ventricle is a myocardiopathy produced by an arrest of the normal left ventricular compaction process during the early embryogenesis. it is associated to cardiac anomalies (congenital cardiopaties) as well as to extracardial conditions (neurological, facial, hematologic, cutaneous, skeletal and endocrinological anomalies). this entity is frequently unnoticed, being diagnosed only in centers with great experience in the diagnosis and treatment of myocardiopathies. many cases of non-compact left ventricle have been initially misdiagnosed as hypertrophic myocardiopathy, endocardial fibroelastosis, dilated cardiomyopathy, restrictive cardiomyopathy and endocardial fibrosis. it is reported the case of a 74 years old man with a history of chronic arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus, prechordial chest pain and mild dyspnea. an echocardiogram showed signs of non-compact left ventricle with prominent trabeculations and deep inter-trabecular recesses involving left ventricular apical segment and extending to the lateral and inferior walls. literature on this topic is reviewed.
