Preparation and Elastic Moduli of Germanate Glass Containing Lead and Bismuth

Abstract: This paper reports the rapid melt quenching technique preparation for the new family of bismuth-lead germanate glass (BPG) systems in the form of (GeO 2) 60–(PbO) 40?x–(?Bi 2O 3) x where x = 0 to 40 mol%. Their densities with respect of Bi 2O 3 concentration were determined using Archimedes’ method with acetone as a floatation medium. The current experimental data are compared with those of bismuth lead borate (B 2O 3) 20–(PbO) 80?x–(Bi 2O 3) x. The elastic properties of BPG were studied using the ultrasonic pulse-echo technique where both longitudinal and transverse sound wave velocities have been measured in each glass samples at a frequency of 15 MHz and at room temperature. Experimental data shows that all the physical parameters of BPG including density and molar volume, both longitudinal and transverse velocities increase linearly with increasing of Bi 2O 3 content in the germanate glass network. Their elastic moduli such as longitudinal, shear and Young’s also increase linearly with addition of Bi 2O 3 but the bulk modulus did not. The Poisson’s ratio and fractal dimensionality are also found to vary linearly with the Bi 2O 3 concentration.

Abstract:
Glasses with chemical formula of {[(TeO2)0.7(B2O3)0.3]0.8[SiO2]0.2}1-x{MnO2}x where x = 0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.05 molar fraction were fabricated using melt quenching technique. The temperature used in the heat treatment process of the glass sample is 600?C. Calorimetric measurement had been carried out to study the thermal properties of the fabricated glass. The crystallization kinetics of the glass system we reexamined under non-isothermal conditions via differential scanning calorimetric (DSC). The glass transition (Tg), onset glass transition (To), maximum crystallization temperature (Tc) and melting temperature (Tm) were determined. Results from DSC proved that the studied glasses have good thermal stability (Ts) in which indicates its high resistance to devitrification. Strong indicator for the glass forming ability of a glass material, Hurby parameter (Kgl) was also calculated in this research.
Infrared Study of Er3+/Yb3+ Co-Doped GeO2-PbO-Bi2O3 Glass

Abstract: Heavy metal oxide glasses, containing bismuth and/or lead in their glass structure are new alternatives for rare eart (RE) doped hosts. Hence, the study of the structure of these vitreous systems is of great interest for science and technology. In this research work, GeO 2-PbO-Bi 2O 3 glass host doped with Er 3+/Yb 3+ ions was synthesized by a conventional melt quenching method. The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) results showed that PbO and Bi 2O 3 participate with PbO 4 tetragonal pyramids and strongly distort BiO 6 octahedral units in the glass network, which subsequently act as modifiers in glass structure. These results also confirmed the existence of both four and six coordination of germanium oxide in glass matrix.
Synthesis and Elastic Behaviour of Borate Glass Doped with High Tellurite Content

Abstract: A systematic series of quality binary glass system of (x)TeO2)-(1-x)B2O3 with x = 60 to 80 (wt. %) were successfully synthesized by the rapid quenching method. The densities of each glass samples were determined using Archimedes method with acetone as a floatation medium. The molar volume have been estimated and analyzed for borate glasses doped with tellurite. Ultrasonics methods have been used to study the elastic properties of TeO2-B2O3 glasses where the sound wave velocities have been measured in each glass samples at a frequency of 15 MHz and at room temperature. The velocities, both longitudinal and transverse, increase linearly with increasing of TeO2 content in a borate glass network. Their elastic moduli such as longitudinal, Young`s, bulk and shear modulus have been calculated as a function of TeO2 concentration. Poisson`s ratio and Debye temperature were also found to increase nonlinearly with TeO2 concentration. The glass transition temperature were determined by the differential thermogravimetric analysis at heating rate of 20 K min-1. However the glass transition temperature (Tg) slowly decrease as more tellurite is added into the borate glass network.

Abstract: Antioxidant plays a very important role in the body defense system against Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). The free radicals also play an important role in combustion, atmospheric chemistry, biochemistry and biotechnology including human physiology. Fats and oils are energy sources that are composed mostly of triacylglycerols. Lipid ptofile are risk indicators of coronary heart disease. Various types of lipoproteins exist, but the two most abundant are Low-density Lipoprotein (LDL) and High-density Lipoprotein (HDL). Lipid peroxidation is the introduction of a functional group containing two catenated oxygyen atomsinto unsturated fatty acids in a free radical reaction. Life in oxygen has led to the evolution of biochemical adaptations that exploit the reactivity of Active Oxygen Species (AOS). Antioxidant enzymes are an important protective mechanism ROS. This paper highlight the functions of antioxidants in the blood and selected organs associated with health.
MEASURE FOR MEASURE: A THRICE TOLD TALE

Abstract: This paper argues that Measure for Measure is a difficult play to perform because it has problematic themes, especially the theme of sexuality, that clash with the way of life and thinking of contemporary society. As such, any director who chooses to stage it must consider these difficulties and how to present them in a natural manner without making the audience feel that the whole production is contrived. The directors of the two major productions discussed in this paper tried their best to present a Measure for Measure that would be acceptable to the modern society. It is evident that there are many interpretations of the Duke and Isabella's characters and also of Isabella's reaction to the Duke's proposal at the end of the play. It can be concluded that no interpretation is wrong because each actor or director brings with him his own reading of the play, and every reading has been influenced by other performances and textual criticisms. Since Measure for Measure is a thematically rich play, it should not be confined to a single interpretation. The different performances of Measure for Measure have proven that theatre is experimental as well as ageless. Because it is a brilliant play with a myriad of interpretations, Measure for Measure will not cease to be a favourite for directors in times to come. It is not wrong to predict that fans of Shakespeare in general and of Measure for Measure in particular can look forward to many more productions.For experienced Shakespeare observers all performances are thrice-told tales. The perceiving eye absorbs the performance even as the mind's eye attends to the text. Both are augmented by the inner ear buzzing with those other voices, both critical and dramatic, carried by the observer into the theatre.(Crowl, Samuel 1992: 3)
ICT to Enhance Administrative Performance: A Case Study from Malaysia

Abstract: Malaysia has achieved considerable steps in the use of ICT in administration since mid 80s. The vision of the Malaysian e-Government initiative which was formulated and launched in 1997 is to transform the public sector service delivery through the use of IT and multimedia. Since its start, there are eight projects implemented under the e-Government initiative flagship. This paper presents work done in one of these projects: e-Procurement (locally known as e-Perolehan) project. The aim of e-Perolehan project is to facilitate and improve government procurement besides to improve the quality of services provided within the Government-to-Business (G2B) setting. The paper briefly discusses how information and communication technologies were deployed to enhance the online procurement system in Malaysia.
Effect of Different Vegetable Oils (Red Palm Olein, Palm Olein, Corn Oil and Coconut Oil) on Lipid Profile in Rat  [PDF]

Abstract: The objective of the study was to evaluate the effects of different vegetable oils [red palm olein (RPO), palm olein (PO), corn oil (CO) and coconut oil (COC)] on lipid profile in rat. Sixty six Sprague Dawley male rats were randomly divided into eleven groups of 6 rats per group and were treated with 15% concentrations of RPO, PO, CO and COC for 4 and 8 weeks. Rats in control group were given normal rat pellet only while in treated groups 15% of additional vegetable oils were given. The results at 4 weeks showed a decline in Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C) values at RPO and PO groups whereas in CO and COC groups the LDL-C were increased compared to the control group. The High Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (HDL-C) values increased in RPO and PO groups whereas it was declined in CO and COC groups compared to the control group. At 8 weeks, there was no significant difference (P ≥ 0.05) in HDL-C of rats treated with vegetable oils compared to the control group. However, the LDL-C in RPO and PO was significantly decreased (P ≤ 0.05) in the LDL-C and there was no significant difference (P≥0.05) for CO and COC groups compared to the control groups. The mean value of the LDL-C after 8 weeks in the control group, RPO, PO, CO, and COC groups were 66.1 mg/dl, 31.9 mg/dl, 41.1 mg/dl, 50.41 mg/dl and 54.31 mg/dl respectively. There was significant decreased (P ≤ 0.05) in the total cholesterol (TC) in RPO group for 4 weeks compared to the control group while the TC in PO, CO and COC were within the normal range. The results of TC in all treated rats for 8 weeks were within the normal range. There was no significant difference in TC of rats treated with vegetable oils compared to the control group. Triglycerides (TG) in all treated rats for 4 weeks were within the normal range whereas the TG in RPO, PO and CO groups for 8 weeks were significant increase (P ≤ 0.05) compared to the control group but there was no significant difference between the control group and COC group.

Abstract: The aim of this study was about integrating augmented reality as visualization interface tool in software engineering process for mathematical remedial works. This study was based on the incorrect thinking process in solving negative numbers subtraction operation involving two integers then created an algorithm for visualization of correct thinking process in solving it. The respondent of this study were 124 students aged 14 years old from two secondary schools in Malaysia. This research was divided into five stages and this paper is about stage three, four and five. The findings were an algorithm for visualization of correct thinking process (AVCTP) and ethnographic approach was used with five students needing remediation in subject domain to identify its effectiveness. Then, a flowchart for AVCTP was created in the process of assisting software engineering process of augmented reality visualization based remedial works in subject domain.
SELF ESTEEM DAN RELASI INTERPERSONAL PENYANDANG TUNA RUNGU DI LEMBAGA DEAF ‘N DUMB

Abstract: All members of Institute for Deaf 'N Dumb have undergone coaching and training skills. Infact, not all the members are having a permanent job because of the lack of a chance than others, and feeling less confident that he is able to produce something so that the skills he has was useless. One of these internal variables that a barrier is self-esteem. Self-assessment of deaf persons who consider themselves not able to relate well with others, especially with the normal people. In this research, data collection using a questionnaire Self-Esteem Inventory (SEI), which is constructed based on the theory of the Coopersmith's self-esteem, as many as 45 items of statements, with the level of reliability in this study was 0.926 for the self-esteem variable, and 0.984 for the interpersonal relationship variable. Data obtained in the form of ordinal and the data processing was using non-parametric statistical method of Spearman Rank. Based on data processing with significance level = 0.05 obtained result rs = 0.439, it means there was a significant relationship between self esteem and interpersonal relationship. This means that the lower the self esteem owned it worse interpersonal relationships of persons with hearing disability.
