Reesink,Mísia Lins;
Etnográfica , 2012,
Abstract: death and the “catholic funeral ritual complex” are events that may inspire ethnographic reflections about the relations between death (particularly its ritual dimension), time, space, memory and saudade. here i want to explore some of these possibilities by looking at the events occurring after the death of catholic people in the casa amarela neighbourhood of recife (brazil). it seems to be possible to establish a structural-temporal relationship between these dimensions and hence to construct different times?/?types of memories based upon, on the one hand, an affective dimension (particularly saudade), and, on the other, a ritual dimension (as in the day of the dead), in the production of the “beloved being”.
Reesink, Mísia Lins;
Mana , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-93132010000100007
Abstract: analysis of religious reflexivity has becomes increasingly present in the anthropology of religion, in particular investigations into how practices and beliefs the object of reflection of believers and religious groups. here i turn to ethnographic data to explore the ‘dialogue' between doubt, scepticism and belief in the performance of the catholic ritual of all souls' day at cemeteries in recife, especially the ritual lighting of candles. all souls' day provides an ideal context for discussing the reflexive dynamics of doubt-scepticism-belief of catholics living in recife. the ritual and its reflexive implications cannot be understood without taking into account the representations of these believers concerning the relations between the dead, the living and the ‘other world.'
"Rogai por nós": a prece no catolicismo brasileiro à luz do pensamento maussiano
Reesink, Mísia Lins;
Religi?o & Sociedade , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-85872009000200003
Abstract: the prayer is a ritual phenomenon of fundamental importance within the catholic religious system. an approach inspired by mauss is used here in order to develop an ethnographic analysis of the ritual of prayer as practiced by catholics from the neighbourhood of casa amarela, recife. among other possible modalities, the ritual appears in several modes: simple (as a "minimal gesture"); composite, for example, in the rosary ritual; and, finally, as part of a larger set, as occurs in the relations between the living and the dead where the prayer, in addition to dreams, functions as a communication channel between the living and the dead.
Quando lembrar é amar: tempo, espa o, memória e saudade nos ritos fúnebres católicos When to remember means to love: time, space, memory and saudade in the catholic funeral rituals

Death and the “catholic funeral ritual complex” are events that may inspire ethnographic reflections about the relations between death (particularly its ritual dimension), time, space, memory and saudade. Here I want to explore some of these possibilities by looking at the events occurring after the death of catholic people in the Casa Amarela neighbourhood of Recife (Brazil). It seems to be possible to establish a structural-temporal relationship between these dimensions and hence to construct different times / types of memories based upon, on the one hand, an affective dimension (particularly saudade), and, on the other, a ritual dimension (as in the Day of the Dead), in the production of the “beloved being”.
Campos, Roberta Bivar C.;Reesink, Mísia Lins;
Religi?o & Sociedade , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-85872011000100009
Abstract: the purpose of this paper is to evaluate critically the latest general review of the field of the anthropology of religion practiced in brazil and which was published in the anthology horizons of the social sciences in brazil (martins and duarte 2010). one of the main points that we highlight for discussion in this article is the effect of the homogenization of this field of research in brazil as it is promoted by the review under scrutiny. this equalization passes over a significant part of the work done in the north and northeast of brazil, leaving it invisible, and hence affecting, more fundamentally, the evaluation of the state of the area of research. in a response, we change the focus of analysis and reverse the map (turn it up side down). taking the literature produced in the north and the northeast as the focus of our reflection, we identify some "local agenda" that actually are in dialogue with, and participates in, the contemporary national and international agendas. in conclusion, both as an ethnographic area and as an academic contribution to the literature, the north and the northeast distinctively contribute significantly to the national and international field of the anthropology of religion.
Simone Queiroz,M?nica Lins
Estrutura Aditiva. Problemas Aritméticos. Erros no cálculo Relacional e Numérico. The Learning Mathematics for Students Teen in Mode Young and Adults Education: analyzing the difficulties in solving problems of additive structure Abstract This paper relates a research about the knowledge of a group of teenagers in EJA classes (a special brasilian educational structure for adults), seeking to identify the difficulties that somehow prevented them from advancing in their studies, and inhibiting their entry into the labor market. We applied a list of problems involving the additive structures. Analysing the results we could detect that these students showed the same difficulties discussed by other authors (SELVA; BRAND O, 2000; MAGINA et. al., 2001; BORBA; SANTOS, 1997) when taking in account students of other educational grades and courses. However, our research concludes that teenagers - in these adult education courses - sometimes perform the numerical calculation with some mistakes related to inversion, decomposition and composition, and misunderstandings about the properties of the number zero. Boron Nitride Nanostructured: Synthesis, Characterization and Potential Use in Cosmetics  [PDF]
Líliam Márcia Silva Ansaloni, Edésia Martins Barros de Sousa
Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2013.41004
Abstract:

The hexagonal boron nitride has been well investigated. Its layered structure is similar to that of graphite. In the manufacture of cosmetics, this structure is intended to improve the appearance, sensory aspect and makes it easy to mix excipients contained in the formulation in the mixture process. In cosmetology, the efficiency and the penetration of active substances into skin are known to be directly related to the particle size. However, only recently their nanostructured properties have been explored. In this work, the synthesis of hexagonal boron nitride in the nanoscale, its composition, structure, morphology and potential for future application in sunscreens are being investigated. The boron nitride was synthesized from boric acid and melamine to a heat treatment at 1600. The crystal structure was characterized by (XRD) and its morphology was examined by (SEM) and (TEM); the chemical composition was studied by (FTIR), (EDS) and (EELS), the texture characterization by (BET) and its potential in sunscreens by (FTIR and UV/VIS). Results have shown that boron nitride may be synthesized in the nanoscale and that this material has the potential to be incorporated into cosmetics.

Universal Relations for Solitary Waves in Granular Crystals under Finite Rise-decay Duration Shocks
M. Arif Hasan,Sia Nemat-Nasser
Physics , 2015,
Abstract: We consider solitary waves (SWs) generated in a chain of identical elastic spheres (granules) by an applied force (shock) with finite rise and decay durations, and provide new explicit expressions and simple procedures to establish a priori: (a) whether the peak value of the resulting primary SW would be greater, equal, or less than the peak value of the input force; a qualitative result requiring minimal calculations; (b) the peak value of the primary SW (or SWs when a train of SWs (SWT) is generated); a quantitative estimate with good accuracy; (c) the magnitude of the linear momentum in each SW; (d) the number of SWs in a SWT, extracted from (d); (e) whether or not the first granule would be ejected, and if it does, the magnitude of the corresponding linear momentum added to the remaining granules; and (f) quantitative estimate of the effect of granules' properties (radius, density and stiffness) on force amplification/mitigation.
