Abstract: the aims of this work were to estimate the coefficient of relatedness within families and the genetic parameters for growth related traits in a progeny test from an open-pollinated variety of pinus caribaea morelet hondurensis barret & golfari, established in mato grosso do sul state, brazil. the experimental design was the triple 10 x 10 lattice, with 96 families, three replicates, and ten plants per plot. fourteen years after planting, the trial was measured for the following traits: total height, diameter at breast height (dbh), and true volume. the estimation of coefficients of relatedness within family from microsatellite loci indicated that families are true half-sibs (^rxy = 0.253). thus, the additive genetic variance (σ2a) can be estimated assuming that the genetic variance among progenies (σ2p) accounts for ? of additive genetic variance (^σ2a = 4^σ2p). the estimative of heritability coefficients at individual level (hi2) was relatively high (0.28 for dbh and 0.44 for height). the heritability coefficient considering the average families (hm2) was also high, ranging among the traits from 0.50 to 0.58. these results suggest that the population can be improved by both massal and among families selection. additionally, the estimated genetic gains with sequential selection among and within families were high (ranging from 8.92% for height to 37.56% for volume), demonstrating that this method of selection can generate high genetic improvement.

Revista PRETEXTO , 2008,

Apenas as cultivares Catuaí Amarelo, Icatu Vermelho e Catuaí Vermelho apresentaram valores genotípicos preditos para o diametro do caule superiores à média geral desse caráter.

Abstract: one f5 soybean population was evaluated in vi?osa-mg, brazil, during the 1997/98 growing season. the experimental design was of families without replications, inserted with controls, with replications, allowing the estimation of the environmental component associated to the phenotypic variance of the population under study, and consequently the genetic parameters. the evaluations at family and at individual within the family allowed to decompose the genotypic variance and to estimate the heritability on the narrow sense. the environmental effect correction was based on the replications of controls. the correction of the environment effect favored the selection of the families that originally showed performance a little inferior to the original selection truncation point, but were not favorable by the environmental, causing changes in the family groups selected through the simulation of the same selection strategies on the original and corrected data.

Abstract: the fungigation of bean crops have been used in brazil by the agriculturists since the beginning of the 1980's. however, few surveys have been conducted to evaluate the efficiency of this technique. thus, the objectives of this work were to evaluate the efficacy of the fungicide epoxiconazol, applied through irrigation water, for the control of diseases in bean crops, under conventional and no-till systems; as well as to study the influence of depth of applied water on the fungigation efficiency. the fungicide epoxiconazol was applied on the bean crops, under conventional and no-till systems, by a center pivot system with different depths of applied water (3, 5 and 7 mm), and disease severity was evaluated for each test. the efficiency of the fungicide application by a conventional system (compression knapsack sprayer) was also evaluated. the results obtained allow us to affirm that the fungicide epoxiconazol, applied by a center pivot system, decreased the severity of bean angular leaf spot and bean alternaria leaf spot; and the depth of applied water by fungigation did not influence the efficacy of the fungicide epoxiconazol.
