Abstract: hyperparathyroidism is a common complication of end-stage renal insufficiency, with a high morbi-mortality and difficult medical control. classical indications for parathyroidectomy are: persistent hypercalcemia, especially after kidney transplantation, untreatable pruritus, pathologic fractures, bone pain refractory to medical treatment, and metastatic calcifications. unfortunately, this latter complication does not respond to parathyroidectomy, and blood vessels calcifications are associated with increased mortality. severe osteitis fibrosa and bone deformities also never disappear. thus, new criteria for early parathyroidectomy are needed. serum intact pth higher than 10 times the upper limit of normality despite adequate calcium and calcitriol supplements, calcium-phosphorus product higher than 70(mg/dl)2, ''brown tumor'' whenever a rapid regression is needed, incapacitating arthritis and/or periarthritis, and rupture of tendons are among other indications that should be considered. care must be taken to exclude concomitant diseases such as amiloidosis and aluminum intoxication. this review intends to advise endocrinologists about the indications and timing of surgery in hyperparathyroidism due to chronic renal failure.

Abstract: although paraíba state, has shown aptitude for black pepper cultivation, being possible to recommend it as an alternative for agricultural diversification in that area, no recommendation for black pepper crop fertilization exists. this research was conducted at the universidade federal da paraíba, in areia, paraíba state, brazil, to evaluate black pepper genotypes submitted to increasing levels of cattle manure. the experimental design was of randomized blocks, with treatments in the factorial 5 x 3 scheme. the first factor was represented by cattle manure levels (0; 4; 8; 12; and 16 kg plant-1) and the second factor, by the black pepper genotypes (ia?ará, cingapura and bragantina), with four replications. black pepper production increased with the use of cattle manure in environmental conditions. the highest pepper yield per plant of bragantina (1012 g), ia?ará (1269 g), and cingapura (627 g) were obtained with 7.3; 8.6; and 7.0 kg of cattle manure/plant, respectively. the estimated yields of dry pepper were of 6.5; 8.9; and 7.8 kg plant-1, responding to maximum yields of 358, 793 and 204 g plant-1 for bragantina, ia?ará and cingapure genotypes, respectively.

Abstract: the purpose of this work was to compare polymeric dental resins cured with halogen lamp and with light emission diode (led) devices, using the grinding disk method customized for dentistry and the corresponding microhardness values. tests were carried out on resin samples of five brands, which were cured for 10, 20 and 40 s with the two devices. the analysis of microhardness and aggressiveness has allowed us to conclude that there is no correlation between these properties. in microhardness tests, the material heterogeneity has produced relative high standard deviation values and has not shown statistical differences between the analyzed samples. in the statistical analysis for the results with the grinding disk method, the resin with highest wear was the tetric ceram, cured with led device for 10 s (aggressiveness average 0.170 mm3/n.m ). the composite resin with least wear was charisma, cured with halogen lamp device for 20 s (aggressiveness average 0.057 mm3/n.m ).

Abstract:

The amount of fat is a component that complicates the clinical evaluation and the differential diagnostic between benign and malign lesions in the breast MRI examinations. To overcome this problem, an effective erasing of the fat signal over the images acquisition process, is essentials. This study aims to compare three fat suppression techniques (STIR, SPIR, SPAIR) in the MR images of the breast and to evaluate the best image quality regarding its clinical usefulness. To mimic breast women, a breast phantom was constructed. First the exterior contour and, in second time, its content which was selected based on 7 samples with different components. Finally it was undergone to a MRI breast protocol with the three different fat saturation techniques. The examinations were performed on a 1.5 T MRI system (Philips?). A group of 5 experts evaluated 9 sequences, 3 of each with fat suppression techniques, in which the frequency offset and TI (Inversion Time) were the variables changed. This qualitative image analysis was performed according 4 parameters (saturation uniformity, saturation efficacy, detail of the anatomical structures and differentiation between the fibroglandular and adipose tissue), using a five-point Likert scale. The statistics analysis showed that anyone of the fat suppression techniques demonstrated significant differences compared to the others with (p > 0.05) and regarding each parameter independently. By Fleiss’ kappa coefficient there was a good agreement among observers P(e) = 0.68. When comparing STIR, SPIR and SPAIR techniques it was confirmed that all of them have advantages in the study of the breast MRI. For the studied parameters, the results through the Friedman Test showed that there are similar advantages applying anyone of these techniques.

A ?causa? de D. Maria II (1826-1834)
Bonifácio,M. Fátima;
Análise Social , 2004,
Abstract: from 1828 to 1834, the ?cause? of d. maria ii, or liberal cause, the triumph of which we have, a posteriori, got used to taking for granted, lay dormant or was on the verge of limping to a halt. the european powers, including britain, refused it diplomatic help, or else openly opposed it. in 1830 d. pedro iv, his hands tied by brazilian politics, practically gave up fighting for his daughter?s rights, and implicitly revoked the constitutional charter. up to mid-1831 the ?cause? was deemed to be lost, and in august of that year, d. pedro, now already in europe, was still hesitant about what path to pursue. in august 1832, after the entry into porto, he did not retreat to terceira only because of the providential siege by the miguelistas. in march 1833, given the military impasse in porto, britain came closer than ever before to recognizing d. miguel. in june 1833, the ?expedi??o dos vapores? (steamship expedition), planned without d. pedro, saved what was by then a moribund ?cause?.
