Abstract: A associa o de paralisia diafragmática bilateral e paralisia da cintura escapular é uma complica o rara após corre o de aneurisma de aorta ascendente. Esta associa o leva à uma forma grave de insuficiência respiratória cujo sucesso do desmame da ventila o mecanica é dependente da capacidade da musculatura respiratória remanescente em compensar o trabalho respiratório excedente. Fisioterapia respiratória intensiva com treinamento da musculatura, corre o dos distúrbios metabólicos, tratamento das infec es respiratórias associadas à ventila o mecanica e otimiza o do suporte nutricional foram fundamentais para o sucesso do desmame.

Abstract: the association of bilateral diaphragmatic paralysis and scapular girdle paralysis is a rare complication after aortic aneurysm correction. such a complication induces to a severe form of hypercapnic respiratory failure in which the success of weaning from mechanical ventilation depends on the capacity of remaining respiratory muscles to compensate extra respiratory work load. intensive respiratory physiotherapy with muscle training, hydroelectrolityc inbalances correction, treatment of ventilation associated infections and a well planned nutritional support were essential to the successful weaning of mechanical ventilation.
Orienta o Estratégica Inova o-Consumidor em Empresas Incubadas do Estado de Minas Gerais: Um Estudo Empírico com Utiliza o da Escala ICON

Abstract: Muitos pesquisadores têm se dedicado a investigar o papel que Orienta o para o Mercado (OPM) e inova o têm para as empresas contemporaneas. Questionou-se, neste trabalho, a forma pela qual os construtos OPM e inova o estariam sendo trabalhados por empresas que est o – ou que estiveram – hospedadas em incubadoras de empresas. Para responder a este questionamento utilizou-se a escala de mensura o ICON (Innovation-Customer Orientation) – desenvolvida por Berthon, Hulbert e Pitt (1999) – para verificar a orienta o estratégica (Isolada, Seguidora, Modeladora ou Interativa) adotada por participantes da Rede Mineira de Inova o. Os resultados mostram que todos os arquétipos se manifestaram na amostra pesquisada, sendo o arquétipo Interativo, o de maior ocorrência. Os dados trouxeram, contudo, resultados inesperados como a ocorrência de tipos “híbridos”, nos quais dois arquétipos preponderavam. Esse fato, aliado a outros resultados, parecem indicar a necessidade de revis o ou amplia o da tipologia de arquétipos de orienta o estratégica inova o-consumidor.

Abstract: there are different proposals to increase the number of black students at university. aiming to assess the impact of adopting some of these proposals for the rate of these students in college education, the ethnical and racial distribution in the federal university of santa catarina was studied, based on university admission exams (vestibular) data banks and on the enrollments for the institution in 2004. the research found out that there is a very small number of black students who apply for or are approved in the university admission exam and enrolled in the referred university. duplication of the number of places and reservation of 50% of the places for applicants from public schools do not change this ethnical and racial profile, thus indicating that skin-color sensitive policies must be adopted in order to increase the rate of black students attending public universities and to contribute to the reduction of racial inequalities in brazil. the study simulated different rates for reservations of places: 15% and 20% and 5% of black students, the latter being for those coming from public schools only. in general, the minimum grade for admission to programs of different levels of social prestige was lowered 10% or less. no sharp loss in the quality of teaching was noticed.

Abstract: the potential field methods have been widely used for exploration geophysics since the beginning of the last century. in general, their applications were for preliminary regional mapping of large geological structures related to mineral resources such as: basin boundary faults, grabens and horsts, salt diapirs, basement geometry and heat flow estimates. however, during the last decade, a new branch of equipment (satellite altimeter, gravity and magnetic gradiometers, cesium magnetometers, dgps and powerful computers) made available an enormous volume of high-resolution data for marine mineral resources exploration. nowadays, these data are being used for calibrating small density and magnetic susceptibility contrasts that are fundamental for investigating a number of exploration issues: i) velocity correction for 3d and 4d seismic reflection; ii) micro-gravity and micro-magnetic for core geophysics, iii) high resolution density and porosity for pore fluids; iv) potential hazards structures and v) sulfides and polimetallic nodules in oceanic crust. a new vision of these applications is already in use by the mineral exploration industry. the main goal of this paper is to make a brief review and also give some background on those applications.

Abstract:

Industrial noise can be successfully mitigated with the combined use of passive and Active Noise Control (ANC) strategies. In a noisy area, a practical solution for noise attenuation may include both the use of baffles and ANC. When the operator is required to stay in movement in a delimited spatial area, conventional ANC is usually not able to adequately cancel the noise over the whole area. New control strategies need to be devised to achieve acceptable spatial coverage. A three-dimensional actuator model is proposed in this paper. Active Noise Control (ANC) usually requires a feedback noise measurement for the proper response of the loop controller. In some situations, especially where the real-time tridimensional positioning of a feedback transducer is unfeasible, the availability of a 3D precise noise level estimator is indispensable. In our previous works [1,2], using a vibrating signal of the primary source of noise as an input reference for spatial noise level prediction proved to be a very good choice. Another interesting aspect observed in those previous works was the need for a variable-structure linear model, which is equivalent to a sort of a nonlinear model, with unknown analytical equivalence until now. To overcome this in this paper we propose a model structure based on an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) as a nonlinear black-box model to capture the dynamic nonlinear behaveior of the investigated process. Abstract: This study was conducted to evaluate the yield, water use efficiency and physiologic characteristics of “Tommy Atkins” mango under partial rootzone drying. The experiment was carried out in an orchard of mango in the irrigated perimeter of Ceraíma, BA. Five treatments and six repetitions were used with one tree per experimental plot: 01—Full Irrigation, 100% of ETc, 02—100% of ETc with frequency of alternance (FA) of 15 days, 03—80% ETc with FA of 15 days, 04—60% of ETc with FA of 15 days, 05—40% ETc with FA of 15 days. The treatments were conductedfrom the beginning of flowering to the harvest of mango in an orchard irrigated by drip. There was no significant reduction in productivity of “Tommy Atkins” mango under PRD up to 40% of ETc and PRD with 40% ETc resulted in greater water use efficiency. There was no significant difference among the averages of photosynthetically active radiation, Qleaf; leaf temperature, Tl; internal CO2 concentration, Ci; transpiration, E; stomatal conductance, gs; photosynthesis, A; carboxylation efficiency, A/Ci; quantum efficiency of photosynthesis, A/Qleaf and instantaneous water use efficiency, A/E between full irrigation and PRD with different water depth. The increase in leaf temperature causes reduction in A/Qleaf and A/E, however, it increases the transpiration. Increased gs results in higher rates of E, A and A/Ci. The use of the PRD with 40% of ETc causes no interference in gas exchange, maintains the yield and increases water use efficiency in “Tommy Atkins” mango tree.
