Abstract: Little is known about the productive performance of Mexican turkey, so the objective of the present study was to characterize growth performance curves of backyard turkey under a confined system. Forty fertile eggs were artificially incubated and turkey weight was recorded at hatch. During growth performance weekly weight was measured until 385 days of age. Turkey commercial feed and water were offered ad libitum. To characterize growth curves, a fourth degree polynomial model regression and a Richards biological model were used, which were compared by determination coefficient (r2), to reach the best fit model. The best fit model was the fourth degree polynomial regression model from a mathematical standpoint of view. It was found that maximum tom growth was reached at 15.7 weeks with a weight gain of 259.3 g/week and in hens at 12.4 weeks with a weight gain of 112.0 g/week. Body weight reached by toms at 40 weeks was 6 kg and hens at 35 weeks with 3.6 kg.

Abstract: introduction: urinary incontinence is a frequent condition in women; it is estimated that it affects between 10% and 30% of women. the most common types are stress, urgency and mixed incontinence. it is a fact that this condition affects their quality of life. objective: to assess the benefits of applying an integrated and standardized nursing intervention on women with a slight or moderate degree of stress, urge or mixed urinary incontinence. design: randomized, controlled clinical trial. location: area 6 of primary care in madrid. participants: 256 women, 128 per group. intervention: systematized care plan for the intervention group (ig) and conventional plan for the control group (cg), depending on urinary incontinence type. results: 59% of the total sample participated; 103 participants were followed: 48 from the ig (37,5%) and 55 from the cg (42,9%). the average difference in urine loss before and after intervention was 5.7 g (n = 22) for the ig, as opposed to 1.8 g (n = 27) for the cg; this reduction was not significant (p = 0.12), 95% ci [-1.09 - 8.92]. iu degree changes were assed by means of the sandvik scale and were grouped in "women that improved or cured" and "women that remained the same or got worse" after interention. 40.5% of the women in the ig improved or cured, as opposed to 21% of the women in the cg (p = 0.059). conclusions: both care plans showed their efficiency to improve ui in this group of women. the mentioned improvement was greater in the ig than in the cg, with clinically relevant differences. the fact that some of the women gave up the project during the follow-up determined a power reduction of the study.

The shifted plactic monoid
Luis Serrano
Mathematics , 2008,
Abstract: We introduce a shifted analog of the plactic monoid of Lascoux and Sch\"utzenberger, the \emph{shifted plactic monoid}. It can be defined in two different ways: via the \emph{shifted Knuth relations}, or using Haiman's mixed insertion. Applications include: a new combinatorial derivation (and a new version of) the shifted Littlewood-Richardson Rule; similar results for the coefficients in the Schur expansion of a Schur $P$-function; a shifted counterpart of the Lascoux-Sch\"utzenberger theory of noncommutative Schur functions in plactic variables; a characterization of shifted tableau words; and more.

CorSalud , 2013,
Abstract: The aortopulmonary window is a communication between the ascending aorta and the pulmonary artery, with well differentiated semilunar valves. Distal defects are less common and occur in approximately 25% of all patients with aortopulmonary window. Although two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography can provide an accurate diagnosis in most cases, some authors ask for further studies. This is the case of a 40-day-old infant with echocardiographic diagnosis of distal aortopulmonary window that was confirmed in the operating room without further studies. At 9 months of clinical and echocardiographic follow-up, the patient remains asymptomatic.

Abstract: benthonic foraminifera are important indicators of environmental conditions in coastal and marine areas since they are very sensitive to changes in their surroundings, resulting in presence and abundance of species of the thanatocoenosis communities. the objective of this work is to compare the spatial and temporal changes in the composition and structure of the benthonic-foraminifera thanatocoenosis communities of the upper gulf of california. samples were collected seasonally (summer, fall and winter of 2009, and spring of 2010) in the area between campo don abel and the southern end of isla montague. four transects of the subtidal area were run perpendicular to the baja california coastline, and a total of 56 sediment samples were taken. to differentiate the biocoenosis from thanatocoenosis, the samples were stained with rose bengal. silt and clay were eliminated by wet sieving and the 63 to 180 μm fractions retained for picking. from each sample, 300 individuals were separated, identified and their relative abundance computed to determine the dominant species. cluster analysis in q & r modes was performed on the data and the shannon-weaver diversity index calculated; dominance was obtained using simpson’s index, and a distribution map was constructed. the most abundant genera were: ammonia, cribroelphidium and rosalina; these represent preferably marine conditions, which show change in the upper gulf of california. also present were four genera of agglutinated foraminifera: ammoscalaria, reophax, anomaloides and nouria, but their distributions were centered at the southernmost stations of the study area, at the limits of the ancient estuary north of san felipe.
