Abstract: the purpose of this updating manuscript is to briefly describe the profile, clinical use and indication of some of the most used sedative and hypnotic compounds. about 2/3 of all hypnotic prescriptions go to chronic use. benzodiazepines are among the most prescribed drugs worldwide. women, elderly, psychiatric and medical disease patients are among chronic users of hypnotics. zolpidem is now the most prescribed hypnotic in most countries. it appears to be safer, compared to benzodazepines, and might be an option for long-term and controlled use ("as needed"). sedative antidepressants are also among the most prescribed drug for sedation in insomnia patients in usa and uk. sedative effect and use of trazodone, mirtazapine, doxepine, amitryptilin are described. the authors also discuss the use of melatonin and its sleep properties, and the rational use of sedative antipsychotics for chronic insomnia, particularly in psychiatric patients. finally, some phytotherapeutic compounds are mentioned.

Abstract: The succession process is an important moment in the organizations’ life cycle, particularly in family companies, because according to the way the process is led, the results may represent a competitive advantage or rupture / discontinuity in their life cycle. In this paper we discuss the structural and dynamic characteristics of small family companies, trying to point out elements of analysis that were ignored in the organizational studies based in the Brazilian reality. People understand that in the structure and the dynamic of family companies we can find explanatory elements to the Brazilian family companies longevity. The empirical study was carried out in small Brazilian family companies that work with the retail trade activity in liquefied petroleum gas. Secondary data were used, to identify the sample companies, and also primary data, which were collected by interview technique and analyzed by the techniques of content analysis and discourse analysis. We conclude that the small Brazilian family company longevity is linked to the competitiveness levels expansion which depends on an organizational structure supported by systemic thought and understanding of the organizational dynamic that bind family and company in the same dimension.

Issues such as fossil fuels and oil supplies have stimulated the search for renewable alternatives such as biofuels. Agricultural crop residues represent an abundant renewable resource for the future of bioethanol. For it to be a viable alternative, the second-generation ethanol which ought to provide a net energy gain, environmental benefits, should be economically viable, and also be produced in large quantities without reducing food supplies. The current difficulty of lignocellulosic biofuel production is the hydrolysis of biomass into sugar. This is a work in which the white-rot Lentinula edodes fungus secretes substantial amounts of hydrolytic enzymes and is useful for degradation of lignocellulosic biomass which have not been described yet. The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the pH effect (5, 6 and 7), agitation (0, 100 rpm and 200 rpm) and also the cultivation time (6, 9 and 12 days). The culture medium was supplemented with agro-industrial residue and the EF 52 strain of the fungus Lentinula edodes was used as a processing agent. A factorial design 22 repeating the central point was performed. Submerged cultivation was conducted in a synthetic medium and was incubated at 25°C. The total protein content was determined as well as the activity of xylanase and cellulase (endoglucanase, exoglucanase and β-glucosidase). By Pareto diagram, the agitation and pH variables were significant for enzymatic activities. The highest enzyme expression occurred at pH values between 5.0 and 6.0 and above 100 rpm agitation. The exoglucanase was the enzyme which showed the highest activity in terms of cellulases, despite the cultivation time. Regarding the production of other enzymes and proteins, the most significant cultivation time

Abstract: This ethnographic exercise aims to identify the relationship peculiarities between Porto Alegresuperadventure comics collectors with their magazines. The framework approaches thesuperadventure comics and the main consumer culture characteristics, focusing on one of itsconsequences, the collecting. For data collection were used participative observation technique with field trips in the Porto Alegre Comic Book Fair and interviews with event exhibitors andfrequenters. The results indicate that the collecting comics oversteps utilitarian dimension of consumption because the magazines are purchased to be conserve and read again because they represent collector life aspects and satisfaction source for him, providing even a sense of obtaining somehow immortality. The collections do not starts deliberately, but once established, the search and acquisition of new items occur regularly and the heap formation following define criterias.Thepossibility of removing an collection item is regarded as something negative. The collecting involves the continuous consumption since the collections will never be complete, because there will always be new interest magazines to be acquired.

Abstract: The number workable days (NWD) for agricultural field operations is of great importance for sizing agricultural machinery fleets. This is especially pivotal for sugarcane harvest, which extends from 8 to 10 months/year. In light of this, the current study aimed at defining criteria for obtaining the NWD for rational sugarcane harvest at different sites in the state of São Paulo, southern Brazil, taking into account both a general and a specific criteria. For this purpose, data from harvest interruption of 30 sugar mills in southern Brazil throughout periods ranging from two to five years were used. The following variables were tested as criteria for defining harvest interruption: minimum precipitation (PREC); soil water holding capacity (SWHC); and the limit of the ratio between actual soil moisture (SM) and SWHC. Based on such a specific criterion ascribed to each site along with a general criterion, NWD maps were prepared for the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The results showed that there were variations from the definition criteria of NWD at the different sites in the state. However, the use of a general criterion for harvest interruption, based on PREC ≥ 3 mm, SWHC = 40 mm and SM/SWHC ≥ 90%, provided accurate results. During the validation of these criteria, the NWD maps generated from the individual criterion proposed for each site resulted in an average error of 24.9 days/year, whereas the map generated from the general criterion culminated in an average error of 4.4 days/year.
