Uma atualiza??o da lista de Cladocera Cladocera (Crustacea, Branchiopoda) do Estado de Pernambuco, Brasil
Soares, Carlos Eduardo Aguiar;Elmoor-Loureiro, Lourdes Maria Abdu;
Biota Neotropica , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-06032011000200038
Abstract: the present study aimed to identify the cladocera species present in 15 samples of zooplankton, taken occasionally between 1981 and 2001, from the counties of recife, jaboat?o dos guararapes, paulista e escada (state of pernambuco, brazil). in total, 32 species were reported; 10 of them represent first records, which increased to 51 the number of species known to occur in pernambuco state. the highest cladoceran species richness was observed in water bodies where macrophytes were more abundant and with more samples available.
Cladóceros fitófilos (Crustacea, Branchiopoda) do Parque Nacional das Emas, estado de Goiás
Sousa, Francisco Diogo Rocha;Elmoor-Loureiro, Lourdes Maria Abdu;
Biota Neotropica , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-06032008000100019
Abstract: this paper presents a preliminary inventory of the phytophylous cladocerans from the parque nacional das emas. eleven qualitative samples were taken from different sites (lagoon, vereda, and wet campo), from 2000 to 2006. eighteen species, belonging to typically non-planktonic families, were identified; the most specious family was the chydoridae. all species are recorded for the first time in southwest region of goiás.
How many species of cladocerans (Crustacea, Branchiopoda) are found in Brazilian Federal District? Quantas espécies de cladóceros (Crustacea, Branchiopoda) s o encontradas no Distrito Federal?

Acta Limnologica Brasiliensia , 2012,
Abstract: AIM: This study aimed provides a checklist of cladocerans and also an evaluation of richness and species composition in the Federal District, Brazil. METHODS: Checklist of cladocerans was obtained evaluating data from the literature, from taxonomic collection (Elmoor-Loureiro's collection) and from fauna surveys conducted over more than three decades in different types of aquatic environments. RESULTS: The 57 water bodies studied showed 56 species, of which 14 are new records. The number of species contained in the list displayed corresponds to 85% of what was expected for richness estimators. The highest number of species was observed in the lentic water bodies (52), which also presented the specific composition of fauna (R = 0.110; p = 0.016), possibly because there were samples taken among the aquatic vegetation. According to our understanding, some species may be subject to local extinctions because they inhabit water bodies located exclusively in urban areas, which can lead to a decline in richness. CONCLUSION: Thus, the results of this study can assist in monitoring aquatic environments and in selection of new areas for surveys of cladocerans in the Federal District.
Human chronic chagasic cardiopathy: participation of parasite antigens, subsets of lymphocytes, cytokines and microvascular abnormalities
Higuchi, Maria de Lourdes;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761999000700044
Abstract: this article tries to demonstrate by new pathological findings (with the use of immunohistochemical technique and confocal laser microscopy) that chronic chagasic cardiomyopathy is a result of multiple factors involving myocarditis, immunodepression, severe fibrosis and microvessels dilatation and that all of these alterations are probably directly related with the presence of trypanosoma cruzi parasites in the host associated with inadequate immunological response of the host.
Gênero e desejo: a inteligência estraga a mulher?
Borges, Maria de Lourdes;
Revista Estudos Feministas , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-026X2005000300012
Abstract: in this paper i analyze the idea that intelligence is a male erotic attribute, while beauty is what makes woman attractive. i begin by immanuel kant, an 18th century philosopher, according to whom an intelligent woman may have the admiration of men, but not their desire. more than that, an intelligent, yet beautiful woman would lose her power over men, because intelligence can ruin woman attractiveness. i show that this apparently old vision is still alive today. many authors nowadays support the view that what makes a woman's attractive for man is beauty, intelligence being negative or indifferent for attraction. some even assign this idea to a natural essence of man and woman. i will challenge this view, showing that beauty has a cultural aspect and that we cannot appeal to a non-historical essence of human being.
Endomyocardial biopsy in Chagas' heart disease: pathogenetic contributions
Higuchi, Maria de Lourdes;
Sao Paulo Medical Journal , 1995, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-31801995000200013
Abstract: endomyocardial biopsy procedure has been performed in many centers around the world, allowing a better treatment and follow up of the patients with myocardial disease. in chagas' disease, it has been performed in s?o paulo heart institute since 1978 and has brought important contributions to the understanding of the disease and consequently of the patient's clinical stage. in the present work we summarize the principal findings regarding the pathogenesis of chagas' disease obtained mainly from the studies using endomyocardial biopsy specimens. nowadays we do not have doubts that the inflammatory infiltrate aggressing myocardial fibers has fundamental role in the progression of the myocardial damage in chagas' disease what culminates in chronic heart failure. the parasite seems to have active participation in the maintenance of such myocardial inflammation.

CHRONIC CHAGASIC CARDIOPATHY: THE PRODUCT OF A TURBULENT HOST-PARASITE RELATIONSHIP
HIGUCHI Maria de Lourdes
Revista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de S?o Paulo , 1997,
Abstract: The pathogenesis of chronic chagasic cardiopathy is still a debated matter. In this review, the main theories raised about it since the first description of the disease in 1909 by Carlos Chagas, are considered. The scarcity of T.cruzi parasites into the myocardium and the apparent lack of correlation between their presence and the occurrence of myocardial inflammatory infiltrate, have originated many theories indicating that chronic Chagas' cardiopathy is an autoimmune disease. Recently however, papers using immunohistochemical technique or PCR have demonstrated a strong association between moderate or severe myocarditis and presence of T.cruzi Ags, indicating a direct participation of the parasite in the genesis of chronic chagasic myocarditis. Different patterns of cytokine production seem to have important role in the outcome of the disease. Participation of the microcirculatory alterations and fibrosis as well as the relationship with the parasite are also emphasized. Finally, the author suggests that the indeterminate form of the disease occurs when the host immunological response against the parasite is more efficient while the chronic cardiopathy occurs in patients with hyperergic and inefficient immune response
