Abstract: The aim of this study is to overview the local press of Konya since 1960, a date which isconsidered a historical breaking point. In contrast to the national press, the local press is fairlypoor and backward in aspects of structure and content. Besides, the local press is directly relatedwith the democratic development level of the whole country. Beyond the studies about thenational and the global press, specific and historical approaches to the local press are quite rare.Although there are historical studies studying the pre-1960 era in more general approaches andwithout a specific micro-level subject in focus; the development process after this date was notyet able to attract the attention it deserved. The aim of this study was to overview the situation ofthe local press in a historical context, on the example of the Konya press. The local press ofKonya is considered as a typical sample of mainstream local press in Turkey.

The discourse of civism in Pereira, or The “sacredness” of public matters during the 20th century
John Jaime Correa Ramírez
HISTOReLo : Revista de Historia Regional y Local , 2009,
Abstract: The constant reference to civism is one of the most distinct characteristics of the urban history of Pereira. Similar to many Colombian cities, the ideology of civism assumes that there is a need to establish a kind of symbiosis between the city, its public spaces, and its citizens, in material as well as spiritual matters. In the case of Pereira, the author seeks to identify the most relevant aspects of the civic discourse which developed entities like the Improvement Society and the Rotary Club, through different written means, putting special emphasis on the moral values which the civic citizens (or ciudadanos de bien) must have exhibited in the process of transformation and modernization experienced throughout the 20th century.
De hand van Romme. C.P.M. Romme als staatkundig hoofdredacteur van De Volkskrant (1945-1952)
M. Broersma
BMGN : Low Countries Historical Review , 2000,
Abstract: Romme's hand: The politician C.P.M. Romme as editor-in-chief of the 'De Volkskrant' (1945-1952) Between 1945 and 1953, C.P.M. Romme held two posts simultaneously; he was both the political leader of the Katholieke Volkspartij (KVP) and editor-in-chief of the newspaper 'De Volkskrant'. Many assumptions have been made about this joint position, mostly by theorists and researchers into the subject of 'pillarization'. However, Romme's actual influence on the content of the 'Volkskrant' has not yet been properly researched. This article explores the role that Romme the politician played during his editorship of the 'Volkskrant'. It aims to show how Romme used the newspaper to attain his political goals; especially with regard to maintaining Catholic political unity and social solidarity. He wrote leading articles to influence public opinion, acted in a censorial capacity and invited journalists and political supporters to contribute articles that supported his own views. In 1952, the owner of the newspaper, the 'Katholieke Arbeidersbeweging' (The Trade Union for Catholics), forced Romme to resign. Ironically, it was a conflict about maintaining Catholic political unity - Romme's main political goal – that ultimately led to his resignation.

Abstract: Signing the temporary Armistice of Montreux, the Ottoman Empire quit the WWI. In the Paris Peace Conference, January 18 1919, the Allies initiated negotiations for a permanent peace treaty to be signed by the defeated countries including the Ottoman Empire. To take advantage of this, the Ottoman non-moslem minorities sent their representatives to the conference in order to seek political support for their ambitions to declare their independence within the Empire’s territory. One of these representatives was the Trabzon Metropolitan Hrisantos. In his memorandum, he argued political and demographic grounds of the idea of establishing a separate state of the Kingdom of Pontos in the eastern part of the Black Sea. This memorandum was intended to be as one of the basic referential documents for their future plans and activities. Comparing and contrasting it with other more reliable, objective and unbiased documents of that period, this paper deals with the unconformities, distorted and altered information and ideas this memorandum included Osmanl Devleti 30 Ekim 1918’de imzalad ge ici ate kes antla mas Mondros Mütarekesi ile I.
