Abstract: A anchoita (Engraulis anchoita) foi capturada em cruzeiros realizados pelo Navio Oceanogr co Atl ¢ntico Sul da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (FURG), pr 3ximo a divisa Brasil-Uruguai.

Fitopatologia Brasileira , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-41582005000600010
Abstract: molecules expressed at the surface cuticle (sc) of plant parasitic nematodes represent the primary plant-nematode interface, and together with secreted-excreted (s-e) products are probably the first signals perceived by the host. these molecules, which are released into plant tissue, probably play important roles in the host-parasite interactions. characterisation of these antigens will help in the identification of nematode targets useful for novel control strategies, which interfere with the nematode infection of plants. three monoclonal (mabs) and three polyclonal (pabs) antibodies produced to s-e products of meloidogyne spp. and heterodera avenae were used to examine their reactivity towards m. incognita and/or m. arenaria second stage juveniles and adult females. the three pabs showed cross-reactivity with m. incognita and m. arenaria. antibody roth-pc 373 strongly recognised molecules present in the sc, amphids and intestine, antibody roth-pc 389 recognised the nematode amphids and metacorpus, while antibody roth-pc 419 bound to molecules present in the subventral glands. reactivity of the mabs was only tested against m. arenaria. monoclonal antibody roth-mab t116c1.1 showed intense reactivity with molecules present in the amphidial and phasmidial glands. monoclonal antibodies roth-mab t46.2 and t42d.2 labeled the nematode amphids and molecules present in the nematode oesophagus (metacorpus), respectively.

Abstract: coffee is one of the most valuable agricultural commodities and ranks second on international trade exchanges. the genus coffea belongs to the rubiaceae family which includes other important plants. the genus contains about 100 species but commercial production is based only on two species, coffea arabica and coffea canephora that represent about 70 % and 30 % of the total coffee market, respectively. the brazilian coffee genome project was designed with the objective of making modern genomics resources available to the coffee scientific community, working on different aspects of the coffee production chain. we have single-pass sequenced a total of 214,964 randomly picked clones from 37 cdna libraries of c. arabica, c. canephora and c. racemosa, representing specific stages of cells and plant development that after trimming resulted in 130,792, 12,381 and 10,566 sequences for each species, respectively. the ests clustered into 17,982 clusters and 32,155 singletons. blast analysis of these sequences revealed that 22 % had no significant matches to sequences in the national center for biotechnology information database (of known or unknown function). the generated coffee est database resulted in the identification of close to 33,000 different unigenes. annotated sequencing results have been stored in an online database at http://www.lge.ibi.unicamp.br/cafe. resources developed in this project provide genetic and genomic tools that may hold the key to the sustainability, competitiveness and future viability of the coffee industry in local and international markets.
Diferencia??o morfológica e anat?mica em popula??es de "ipecacuanha" - Psychotria ipecacuanha (Brot.) Stokes (Rubiaceae)

Brazilian Journal of Botany , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-84041999000200011
Abstract: psychotria ipecacuanha is a medicinal plant of the rubiaceae family. the roots are very important for the production of emetine. the species presents a disjunction in its geographical distribution. it occurs in central america (from nicaragua to northwestern america do sul) and in brazil: in the southern amazonian forest (rond?nia and mato grosso) and in the atlantic forest (pernambuco to paraná). morphological data of populations from the three areas were used to establish the circunscription of the species and the possible infra-specific taxa. it was concluded, through the analysis of major components, that there are no significant differences among the individuals of the populations. the few individual differences observed are not related to the geographic distribution of the populations, so the "ipecacuanha" was considerated single species psychotria ipecacuanha (brot.) stokes. in addition to the taxonomical analysis, some anatomical and chromosomal data are presented here.

Abstract: this paper discusses speech and language clinic as a science, particularly the definition of its object of study and its subdivision aiming at the consolidation of its status as science. it is assumed for the purpose of this argumentation, that the object of study for speech-language pathology is the clinical approach to language and its pathological process, as long as language is considered as the symbolic instance of subjectivity constitution. if it is assumed that this hypotheses is true, there are two major consequences: audiology would be understood as a branch of biological sciences and therefore would not share the same object of speech-language pathology, and second, would stand against the understanding of speech-language clinic as a mere practice. on the other hand, this conception defines the speech-language therapist as a clinician, involved with the patient's language and its cure. furthermore, it recognizes linguistics and psychoanalysis as sciences of peculiar interest for the speech-language therapist since that they share with speech-language pathology the same concept of language and subject. once that speech-language pathology is redefined, it will face the task of recognizing the clinical practice as the locus of and therefore will have to discuss the constitution of its clinical method. finally, this paper brings to the attention of the speech-language therapist the threat of a new domination in case of particular forms of interpretation of speech-language pathology clinic not being distinguished from the psychoanalytic practice.
