Abstract: Confucian had been the mainstream of traditional Chinese ideology and provided a foundation for Chinese culture and society. Large-scale Ocean-based or Geothermal Power Plants by Thermoelectric Effects

Abstract: Heat resources of small temperature difference are easily accessible, free and unlimited on earth. Thermoelectric effects provide the technology for converting these heat resources directly into electricity. We present designs of electricity generators based on thermoelectric effects and using heat resources of small temperature difference, e.g., ocean water at different depths and geothermal sources, and conclude that large-scale power plants based on thermoelectric effects are feasible and economically competitive. The key observation is that the power factor of thermoelectric materials, unlike the figure of merit, can be improved by orders of magnitude upon laminating good conductors and good thermoelectric materials. The predicted large-scale power plants based on thermoelectric effects, if validated, will have a global economic and social impact for its scalability, and the renewability, free and unlimited supply of heat resources of small temperature difference on earth.
A continuum theory of thermoelectric bodies and effective properties of thermoelectric composites

Abstract: We develop a continuum theory for thermoelectric bodies following the framework of continuum mechanics and conforming to general principles of thermodynamics. For steady states, the governing equations for local fields are intrinsically nonlinear. However, under conditions of small variations of electrochemical potential, temperature and their gradients, the governing equations may be reduced to a linear elliptic system, which can be conveniently solved to determine behaviors of thermoelectric bodies. The linear theory is further applied to predict effective properties of thermoelectric composites. In particular, explicit formula of effective properties are obtained for simple microstructures of laminates and periodic E-inclusions, which implies useful design principles for engineering thermoelectric composites.

Abstract: In process of crude oil production and transportation, wax and other solid deposition issues have a significant impact on oilfield production. Solid precipitation not only reduces the production efficiency and increases the cost of production. Therefore, there is a need to study the rate of paraffin wax deposition and cloud point temperature in order to guide the oil field control the paraffin wax deposition. In this paper, we use the Flory theory of polymer solution to correct the liquid activity coefficients, and regular solution theory to correct for the non ideality of the solid mixture, and we consider the impact of isoparaffin. Finally, thermodynamic model is established. The actual example calculation shows that the forecast results of this model are more accurate.
SAR Image Change Detection Algorithm Based on Different Empirical Mode Decomposition  [PDF]

Abstract: Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is a data-driven and multi-scale transform theory, and it is a nonlinear and non-stationary signal processing theory. But each EMD decomposition theory has its advantages and disadvantages. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging is an important remote sensing technique to obtain the change information, and SAR image data belongs to non-stationary signal. So EMD is very suitable for SAR image processing. There are two kinds of typical EMD theories, which are the ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) and bidimensional empirical mode decomposition (BEMD). Based on the deep study of the two methods, this paper proposed a new SAR image change detection algorithm, which is called the FCD-EMD algorithm, i.e. fusion change detection based on EMD. So FCD-EMD algorithm can obtain more accurate information, which not only includes the directional information obtained by EEMD, but also can contain the spatial information got by BEMD. The main contribution of the FCD-EMD algorithm is to fuse the detail information in different directions, so that the results obtained are more accurate than the individual method. On the other hand, it can reduce the influence of speckle noise in SAR images by feature selections. The actual SAR image data verify the algorithm proposed in this paper and good experimental results are obtained, which show that the new method is feasible.
First-principles study on transport properties of zigzag graphene nanoribbon with different spin-configurations

Abstract: The current-voltage (I-V) characteristics and the transmission spectrums of zigzag graphene nanoribbon with different spin-configurations are investigated by using the first-principles calculations. It is shown that the current-voltage curves and the transmission spectrums strongly depend on the spin-configurations of the two sides of the ribbon. For the spin-parallel configuration structure, the curve is linear under lower bias voltage; For the spin-antiparallel configuration structure, there is a strong spin-polarization-dependent transmission which implies the ribbon can be used as a spin filter; while for other spin-configurations structures, the curve has the characteristic of semiconductor. It is found that there is a large magneto-resistance(MR) when the bias voltage is small. The impurity in the central scattering region significantly influences the spin-dependent current and the spin filter efficiency, which may lead the large MR to disappear.

Abstract: The proposal to develop and open Binhai New Area in the 11th Five-year Plan of China has provided a great opportunity to promote the economic development both in this area and in the whole Tianjin city. According to the experience of the development areas in some developed countries as well as in Shenzhen and Pudong, the innovation in financial system is important, especially the construction of financing system. Based on an analysis on the features of the development strategy of Binhai New Area, together with the consideration of some policies on the construction of this area and some experience in dealing with the relationship between financing system and development strategy in and outside China, this article establishes financing system for Binhai New Area in accordance with its development strategy.
An analysis of the field theoretic approach to the quasi-continuum method

Abstract: Using the orbital-free density functional theory as a model theory, we present an analysis of the field theoretic approach to quasi-continuum method. In particular, by perturbation method and multiple scale analysis, we provide a formal justification for the validity of the coarse-graining of various fields, which is central to the quasi-continuum reduction of field theories. Further, we derive the homogenized equations that govern the behavior of electronic fields in regions of smooth deformations. Using Fourier analysis, we determine the far-field solutions for these fields in the presence of local defects, and subsequently estimate cell-size effects in computed defect energies.
双线偏振多普勒天气雷达估测混合区降雨和降雹方法的理论研究

Abstract: 利用冰雹形状和空间取向的模型及降雹和降雨的滴谱分布,分析了C波段双线偏振雷达探测的降雨和冰雹的反射率因子ZH、差反射率因子ZDR和差传播相移KDp的取值范围,及混合区降水中不同大小的降雨降雹强度对这些参量的贡献.结果表明:对于C波段双线偏振雷达来讲,当降雹达到一定强度后,反射率因子反而随降雹强度的增大而减小,反射率因子和降雹强度不一定是一一对应关系,降雹的KDp与相态、空间取向和雹块的尺度均有关系.在混合性降水中,ZH的主要贡献来自冰雹,而KDp主要取决于降雨的大小,降雨和降雹对ZDR均有明显的影响,降雨的ZH和KDP有比较好的对应关系.在此基础上给出了利用ZH、ZDR和KDp定量估测相态混合区冰雹和降雨对应的反射率因子、降雨强度的方法,并从滴谱变化、雷达探测精度和冰雹对KDp的影响分析了这种方法的估测精度.
ComGIS-Based Early Warning System of Rural Drinking Water Safety in Ya’an City of Sichuan, China  [PDF]

Abstract: According to characteristic index of spatial-temporal variability of rural drinking water safety in Ya’an City of Sichuan, China, such as water quantity, water quality, convenience degree and guaranteed rate, etc., this study elaborated the basic framework, model’s methodology structure in early warning system of rural drinking water safety on the basis of ComGIS and initially designed information collection, search and re-trieval, evaluation and analysis of factors, dynamic prediction and dynamic early-warning and functions of guidance and management in this system. The design of this system provided scientific basis to grasp the state of rural drinking water safety timely, release early warning information and properly take necessary control measures, etc. The evaluation results showed that the overall trend was getting better. It proved that the rising pressure value and response value were main reasons which caused the rising evaluation value of rural drinking water safety.
