Using Interviewing to Explore Clinical Learning at Team Placements: A Pilot Study

Abstract: This paper reports the development of a pilot study which aims to identify a medical student’s experience and perceptions towards team placement learning and how closely those experience and perceptions link to the author’s main project--a longitudinal, multiple-method case study, which is designed to investigate how medical students learn in a multiprofessional clinical context, and how multi- and inter-professional contact influences the transition from ‘thinking as a student’, to ‘thinking like a doctor’, to ‘thinking as a doctor’, as an issue of identity construction. By using a reflexive account, the author delineates the strengths and limitations; practicalities and difficulties of in-depth interviewing, one of the qualitative data collection methods to be use in her further study.
Association between EGFR, ALK and KRAS Gene Status and Synchronous Distant ?Organ Metastasis in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

Abstract: Lung cancer is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality of malignant diseases in China. Approximately 57% lung cancer patients harbored distant metastases at initial diagnosis which is relevant to poor outcomes. The research strategy of anti-lung cancer metastasis now has became the new treatment directions and thoughts for lung cancer treatment. Previous studies have shown that changes in the corresponding driving genes on different signaling pathways may be related to the transfer of different organs, and the biological alteration of tumor to some extent can affect the metastatic behavior and metastatic pattern of tumor. However, current clinical and basic studies have not elucidated the molecular mechanism of the specific distant organ metastasis in the pathway of lung cancer related signal transduction, clinical research on the correlation between gene mutation and organ transfer specificity is also relatively rare. This review aims to summarize the characteristics of the expression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK), V-Ki-ras2 Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homologue (KRAS) in non-small cell lung cancer, and the correlation between the distribution of metastatic organs.?
Fractionation and structural identification of antibiotic activity substances from Streptomyces herbaricolor HNS2-2  [PDF]

Abstract: Four groups of antibiotic activity compounds were separated and purified from the ethyl acetate fraction of a broth culture of Streptomyces herbaricolor HNS2-2.Trace analyses were performed and anti-microbial activities were determined. The antibiotic activity compounds were identified as quercetin dehydrate ①, p-hydroxyphenyl ②, 4’-hydroxyflavanone ③, and 3-hydroxyflavone ④ based on spectroscopic data. Compounds 1-4 showed significant antimicrobial activities against Staphylococcus aureus and the tobacco mosaic virus in vitro, suggesting their potential agricultural and medical applications.
Discovery and Comparative Profiling of microRNAs in Representative Monopodial Bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) and Sympodial Bamboo (Dendrocalamus latiflorus)

Abstract: Background According to the growth pattern of bamboo, sympodial bamboo and monopodial bamboo are considered as two mainly kinds of bamboo. They have different phenotypes and different characteristics in developmental stage. Much attention had been paid on the study of bamboo cultivation, processing, physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology, which had made great progresses in the last decade, especially for the highlighted achievement of the bamboo genomics. However, there is no information available on concerning comparative profiling of miRNAs between sympodial bamboo and monopodial bamboo, which might play important roles in the regulation of bamboo development. Methodology/Principal Findings We identified the profiles of small RNAs using leaf tissues from one sympodial bamboo i.e. moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) and another monopodial bamboo i.e. ma bamboo (Dendrocalamus latiflorus). The result showed that there were 19,295,759 and 11,513,888 raw sequence reads, in which 92 and 69 conserved miRNAs, as well as 95 and 62 novel miRNAs were identified in moso bamboo and ma bamboo, respectively. The ratio of high conserved miRNA families in ma bamboo is more than that in moso bamboo. In addition, a total of 49 and 106 potential targets were predicted in moso bamboo and ma bamboo, respectively, in which several targets for novel miRNAs are transcription factors that play important roles in plant development. More importantly, annotation of differentially expressed target genes was performed based on the analysis of pathway and gene ontology terms enrichment. Conclusions/Significance This study provides the first large-scale sight of discovery and comparative characterization of miRNAomes between two representative bamboos belonged to sympodial bamboo and monopodial bamboo, respectively. Although it will be necessary to validate the function of miRNAs through more experimental research in further, these results lay a foundation for unraveling the miRNA-mediated molecular processes in different kinds of bamboo.

Three Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy Combined with Concurrent Chemotherapy for Stage Ⅲ Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

Abstract: Background and objective The outcome of treatment for stage Ⅲ non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by radiotherapy plus concurrent chemotherapy is poor. This study was aimed to investigate the feasibility of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) plus concurrent cisplatin-based chemotherapy on the patients with stage Ⅲ non-small cell lung cancer. Methods 88 cases with stage Ⅲ NSCLC from August 2004 to June 2007 were divided randomly into concurrent group and 3D-CRT alone group. Results The overall response rate (CR+PR) in concurrent group and 3D-CRT alone group were 90.9% and 68.2% respectively (P < 0.05). The 1, 2, 3-year overall survival rate in concurrent group and 3D-CRT alone group were 68.8%, 35.1%, 19.7% and 38.9%, 22.8%, 12.4% respectively. The median survival was 18.8 months, and 12.6 months, respectively, and the difference of the toxicity (except leukocytopenia) was not statistically significant in two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion 3D-CRT combined with concurrent chemotherapy has better response and shorter treatment course than the 3DCRT alone, and increases the overall survival, so it is the best method for the treatment stage Ⅲ NSCLC.

Abstract: Skopos theory for a long time remains the core of Functional School of translation. The major principle of Skopos theory is that translation should be processed from the perspective of the intended audiences. Its major theory structure makes it as the guiding principle of business English translation which requires communicative and social textual equivalence. Based on the analysis of Skopos theory and business English translation features, this paper focuses on developing business English translation strategies, particularly in the case of advertisement translation. It aims to play a positive role in promoting the research and practice of business English translation.

Abstract: The functional theory of translation, with Skopostheorie as a core, advocates that the translation process should not only be based upon equivalence but more importantly upon the prospective functions or Skopos of the target text. Translation errors study was also put forward and carried out as a result. Based on the explanation of this translation theory, this paper makes a thorough analysis of business English translation errors, with the major reasons raised and corresponding solutions and strategies presented. Besides shedding lights on the theoretical study of translation in this field, the analysis aims to play a positive role in improving the substantial quality of business English translation in practice.
Analysis on Pore-Forming Pouring Pile Construction Technology of House Building Project  [PDF]

Abstract: Compared with the in-place pile, the pore-forming pouring pile is more simple and convenient, with a wider range of construction. In the actual construction process, it is able to pass through complex bottom layer and water layer underground without very high requirements in equipment. The actual bearing capacity of single pile is very strong, so that it can be better to adapt to the actual needs of different scales or the different geological conditions in building. And it has been promoted and used greatly in building construction work [1]. This paper introduces the concept of the pore-forming pouring pile technology, analyzes the pore-forming construction technology and the pile construction technology, then talks about prevention problems of the pore-forming pouring pile construction in House Building Project, at last draws a conclusion that the pore-forming pouring pile technology is the most basic construction technology and is the most effective and convenient way of construction.
