Abstract: High blood pressure produces ventricular dilation, variations in circumventricular organs and changes in the cerebrospinal fluid compositions. On the other hand, chronic hypertension in spontaneously hypertensive rats can cause changes in the integrity of the brain barriers: blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier and blood brain barrier. The permeability of the brain barriers can be studied by using transthyretin and S-100β. In the present work we study the integrity of the brain barrier and the choroid plexus function variations in arterial hypertension. Control rats and spontaneously hypertensive rats were used and the choroid plexus were processed by immunohistochemistry with anti-transthyretin and anti-vasopressin. Western blot was also performed in cerebrospinal fluid, serum and choroid plexus using anti-S-100β, anti-transthyretin. The accumulation of transthyretin immunoreactive was bigger in spontaneously hypertensive rats with respect to the control. Vasopressin was also higher in spontaneously hypertensive rats with respect to the control. Western blot showed that transthyretin tetramer was higher in the spontaneously hypertensive rats than in the control rats. The expression of transthyretin monomer was lower in hypertensive rats than the control in the cerebrospinal fluid, the transthyretin monomer reaction in the blood was stronger in hypertensive than in control rats. Western blot for the S-100 β showed an increase in blood and cerebrospinal fluid of hypertensive rats. The high blood pressure produces a disruption of the blood brain barrier and blood to cerebrospinal fluid barrier that allows extravasations from the cerebrospinal fluid to the blood and from the blood to the cerebrospinal fluid.

Abstract: It has been reported that spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) show ventricular dilation, changes in CSF proteins and variations in the circumventricular organs (CVO) such as: the subcommissural organ (SCO), the subfornical organ (SFO) and the area postrema (AP) which are located in the walls of the third and fourth ventricles. On the other hand, p73 proteins are present in cells of the central nervous system (CNS) such as circumventricular structures and the neuroepithelium which are altered in ventricular dilation. The purpose of the present work is to study the TAp73 isoform expression in the circumventricular organs (CVO) and their variations in ventricular dilatation and arterial hypertension. Brains and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from control Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY) and SHR were used. The paraffin sections containing the CVO were immunohistochemically proc-essed with anti-TAp73 and by western blot, p73 bands in the CSF and circumventricular organ extract were also identified. The western blot study showed bands marked with p73 in the CSF and CVO, the p73 band expression was bigger in the SHR than in the WKY rats. We also found stronger markings in the SFO, SCO and AP of the hypertensive rats than in the WKY rats. It could be concluded that hypertension in the SHR produces altera-tions in the relationship between the p73 protein, circumventricular structures and CSF.
Approximate Robotic Mapping from sonar data by modeling Perceptions with Antonyms

Computer Science , 2010,
Abstract: This work, inspired by the idea of "Computing with Words and Perceptions" proposed by Zadeh in 2001, focuses on how to transform measurements into perceptions for the problem of map building by Autonomous Mobile Robots. We propose to model the perceptions obtained from sonar-sensors as two grid maps: one for obstacles and another for empty spaces. The rules used to build and integrate these maps are expressed by linguistic descriptions and modeled by fuzzy rules. The main difference of this approach from other studies reported in the literature is that the method presented here is based on the hypothesis that the concepts "occupied" and "empty" are antonyms rather than complementary (as it happens in probabilistic approaches), or independent (as it happens in the previous fuzzy models). Controlled experimentation with a real robot in three representative indoor environments has been performed and the results presented. We offer a qualitative and quantitative comparison of the estimated maps obtained by the probabilistic approach, the previous fuzzy method and the new antonyms-based fuzzy approach. It is shown that the maps obtained with the antonyms-based approach are better defined, capture better the shape of the walls and of the empty-spaces, and contain less errors due to rebounds and short-echoes. Furthermore, in spite of noise and low resolution inherent to the sonar-sensors used, the maps obtained are accurate and tolerant to imprecision.

Abstract: A case-control study was designed to evaluate the impact of genetic polymorphisms above described on TMD. A total of 229 individuals (69% women) were included at the study; 86 were patients with TMD and 143 were healthy control subjects. Subjects underwent to a clinical examination following the guidelines by the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD). Genotyping of 20 Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs), divided in two groups, was performed by multiplex minisequencing preceded by multiplex PCR. Other seven genetic polymorphisms different from SNPs (deletions, insertions, tandem repeat, null genotype) were achieved by a multiplex-PCR. A chi-square test was performed to determine the differences in genotype and allelic frequencies between TMD patients and healthy subjects. To estimate TMD risk, in those polymorphisms that shown significant differences, odds ratio (OR) with a 95% of confidence interval were calculated.Six of the polymorphisms showed statistical associations with TMD. Four of them are related to enzymes of folates metabolism: Allele G of Serine Hydoxymethyltransferase 1 (SHMT1) rs1979277 (OR = 3.99; 95%CI 1.72, 9.25; p = 0.002), allele G of SHMT1 rs638416 (OR = 2.80; 95%CI 1.51, 5.21; p = 0.013), allele T of Methylentetrahydrofolate Dehydrogenase (MTHFD) rs2236225 (OR = 3.09; 95%CI 1.27, 7.50; p = 0.016) and allele A of Methionine Synthase Reductase (MTRR) rs1801394 (OR = 2.35; 95CI 1.10, 5.00; p = 0.037). An inflammatory oxidative stress enzyme, Gluthatione S-Tranferase Mu-1(GSTM1), null allele (OR = 2.21; 95%CI 1.24, 4.36; p = 0.030) and a neurotransmission receptor, Dopamine Receptor D4 (DRD4), long allele of 48 bp-repeat (OR = 3.62; 95%CI 0.76, 17.26; p = 0.161).Some genetic polymorphisms related to folates metabolism, inflammatory oxidative stress, and neurotransmission responses to pain, has been significantly associated to TMD syndromeTemporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is characterized by a set of symptoms

Being so fundamental to advance in the knowledge of the relation of care nurse-patient, and, particularly, on the moral aspects that guide and regulate such a relation, this article analyzes, based on some theoretical models, the relevance of the qualitative paradigm -with a narrative biographical approach- to study the values, feelings and moral actions that constitute the relation between nurses and persons who live with Human Immunodeficiency Virus or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome.
