Biota Neotropica , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-06032007000100006
Abstract: this work describes morphologic variations in the organs and structures of the male reproductive system in chaunus ornatus, analyzed independently from the alterations that promote structural variations. seven adult samples were used, they were collected in botucatu (s?o paulo state, brazil) during reproductive activity period. the specimens were dissected and rostrum-cloacal length measures were taken. descriptive and biometrics anatomical analyses were also obtained. three of these animals were sent to histological routine for the analysis of the testicular architecture, where it was schematized in vegetable paper with pen indian ink. statistical analyses (mean, standart deviation, shapiro-wilk test, student's t and simple lineal regression) were used for interpretation of the results. the testes of c. ornatus are cylindrical with white coloration and they possess a rudimentary ovarian structure, the bidder's organ, in the testicular cranial extremity. the male reproductive system of c. ornatus presents conspicuous anatomical variations intra and interindividuals, especially to the form and size of the testes and of the bidder's organ, which did not present relationship with the size of individual. as for the location, the testes are disposed ventral to the kidneys, but they are in different levels, accompanying differences attributed to the kidneys levels. the disposition and number of extensions in the abdominal fatty bodies is variable among the pair's members, and consequently among individuals. histologically differences regarding the germ epithelium arrangement were not observed. the germ epithelium is arranged in seminiferous locule, therefore these characteristics seem to follow the pattern of the description for the other anurans. the morphologic heterogeneity for anatomical variations in that species were few significant. thus, other studies are still necessary for the establishment of morphologic relations and its phylogenetic implications, as well as t
Histological characterization of cellular types during Scinax fuscovarius oogenesis (Lutz) (Anura, Hylidae)
Oliveira, Classius de;Santos, Lia Raquel de Souza;
Revista Brasileira de Zoologia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-81752004000400029
Abstract: this paper describes morphological characteristics of the ovarian germinative cells of the scinax fuscovarius (lutz, 1925). the ovary is organized in primordial germinative cells (oogonia) and follicular structures (ovarian follicle) - oocytes surrounded by follicular cells. oogonia: their nests are peripherically localized, containing cells with large and oval nucleus. oocytes i: basophilic cytoplasm; the spherical nucleus presents few nucleoli, one or two; the follicular cells (one tenuous layer) surround these previtellogenic cells. oocytes ii: the cell is larger and the cytoplasm becomes more basophilic; the nucleus presents few nucleoli and contains many chromosomes in the periphery (beginning the perinucleolar stage). oocytes iii: the cytoplasm acquires an intense acidophilia; the peripherical region of cytoplasm is filled with yolk and the internal region has no yolk at all; pigment synthesis begins; the follicular envelope presents three tenuous layers: an inner acellular (vitelline envelope) and two cellular layers (follicle cells). oocytes iv: a characteristic of this stage is the differentiation between the animal and the vegetal poles; the nucleus in the animal hemisphere and the pigments give the oocyte a color dark brown; the vitellogenesis is intense and the yolk occupies the whole cytoplasm.

Abstract: Activin plays an important role in numerous physiological processes such as cell differentiation and remodeling, regeneration and repair of tissues from various organs, angiogenesis, morphogenesis of glandular organs, pluripotency and differentiation of stem cells, cell adhesion and apoptosis. It participates in reproductive processes like embryogenesis, in the expression of Follicle Stimulating Hormone and Luteinizing Hormone and maturation of ovarian follicles and therefore has application in the area of reproduction of vertebrates. Given the economic importance of activin, we develop an efficient and economical method for the production of recombinant human activin A (rACT), using as expression system the yeast Pichia pastoris. rACT showed biological activity as it induced, on submicromolar dose, the increase of ovarian mass and the ovulation process in a mammal model.

Abstract: The influence at the progressive motility and post-thawing plasmatic membrane integrity of different extenders (Tris-Yolk-based, Tris-Yolk/Skim Milk-based and Skim Milk-based) was studied in rams frozen semen, using a split-sample technique. The semen was obtained from four Santa Inês located in the district Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A total of 8 semen collections per ram made possible 672 observations, i.e. 32 semen collections/ 3 semen extenders / 7 observations steps. The progressive motility was determined in the cool semen (Mpi) and after dilution with fraction A of extender (Mp1), a 2-hour balance period (Mp2), dilution in fraction B (Mp3), a 14-hour balance period (Mp4), semen exposure to N2-liquid vapor (Mp5) and post-thawing (Mp6). The sperm plasmatic membrane integrity was determined by employing fluorochromes carboxyfluorescein diacetate and propidium iodide at post-thawing (Mp6). Tris-Yolk-extender showed a Tris-Yolk/Skim Milk- and Skim Milk-extenders superior performance on recovering the post-thawing progressive motility. The rams presented the highest post-thawing sperm membrane integrity when the semen was frozen in Skim Milk-extender, in comparison to the Tris-Yolk and Tris-Yolk/Skim Milk-extenders. Concluding, it is necessary to elucidate the protection underlying mechanism conferred by the extenders studied over the investigated sperm parameters, given the finding of different extenders specificities on protecting motility and sperm integrity. O diluente Tris

Abstract: The reproductive system of male Phrynops geoffroanus adults ismacroscopically described and the variation in testicular biometry is evaluated. A pair of oval testes is connected by the efferent ductules to the epididymis, which continue as deferent ducts, which emerge in the penis. The volume of the gonads showed the highestaverages during spring and summer months. GSI varied significantly throughout the year, with the highest averages observed in the months that correspond to the end of spring and the beginning of summer, when the reproduction of the species takes place, and the lowest averages were seen in winter, suggesting a cyclical testicular activity.

Revista de Enfermagem UFPE On Line , 2010,
Abstract: Objective: to assess the knowledge of the last semester of the undergraduate nursing course students on prevention of radiodermatitis. Methods: this is about a cross-sectional study, from survey type. For data collection was applied a questionnaire for students of the 8th semester nursing course in four universities in Brasilia city. Statistical analysis was performed using the Statistical Package for Social Science, version 13.0. This study has been approved by the Committee of Ethics in Research of UNIEURO University Center (010/2008). Results: in a research with 52 students, of which have 44% reported the approach of cancer in some subjects during the course. When asked about the knowledge of prevention and treatment of radiodermatitis, except by students of the institution A, there was a good level of knowledge about the possible nursing interventions. Conclusion: the results suggest that the academics did not have sufficient knowledge of prevention of radiodermatitis caused by ionizing radiation in the treatment with radiotherapy. The training of nurses to prevent and treat the toxicities associated to cancer therapeutic modalities, especially in the study of radiodermatitis, which is more than essential, and the building up of this knowledge should start in the undergraduate course.
