Industry Orientation, Exporting and Productivity  [PDF]
Y?lmaz K?l??aslan, Levent Erdo?an
Modern Economy (ME) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/me.2012.31012
Abstract: This paper aims to analyse the relation between exporting behaviour of the firms and productivity by testing for learning by exporting hypothesis in Turkish manufacturing industry. Moreover, this study examines whether exporting and productivity relations change with respect to the orientation of industry in which the firm operates. We use the data on the largest 1000 industrial enterprises of Turkey from 1997 to 2007. The results based on unbalanced dynamic panel data models estimated show that there is no evidence that exporting fosters productivity at the firm level in Turkish manufacturing industry. Disaggregation of industries with respect to their orientations does not change this result. Exporting, or increase in the exports of the firm, doesn’t seem to be one of the sources of productivity growth at least for the firms already exporting in Turkish manufacturing.
Web based instruction attitude scale:Explanatory and confirmatory factor analyses

International Journal of Human Sciences , 2007,
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to develop a scale to measure the students’ attitudes towards web based instruction. Also, perform the reliability and validity studies of this scale. With this aim in mind, a five-point Likert type scale was prepared which was consisting of 58 items. This scale was administered to a sample of 127 university students who were attended in Bilgi University e-MBA master program. The construct validity of this scale was assessed by factorial analysis. After factor analysis, the scale appeared to have two factorial components which were “Efficiency of web based instruction”, and “To resist web based instruction”. Reliability analyses were carried out through item total, item reminder correlations and item discriminating power. After item analysis, 16 items were removed from the scale. Cronbach Alfa internal consistency coefficient was found to be 0.917. The latest version of the scale was tested by using confirmatory factor analysis. The measurements revealed that the result had high goodness of fit and it could have been used in the measurement of students’ attitudes towards web based instruction.

Turk Toraks Dergisi , 2008,
Abstract: Solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura is a mostly benign and rare tumor. Its diagnosis and treatment can be made by surgical resection of the mass. Clinical presentation varies according to the size and intrathoracic localization of the tumor. A fortynine year old female with symptoms of cough and dispnea had a mass in her right lung. The lesion was resected by surgery. Immunohistochemically tumor cells stained positively for CD 34 and vimentine but there was no reactivity for pansitokeratin, demsin, CD31, S100 or South Musde Aktin. Due to these findings, it was histopathologically diagnosed as a pleural solitary fibrous tumor. We presented our case who did not show recurrence in her follow up for 2 years together with a review of the literature.

Turk Toraks Dergisi , 2009,
Abstract: Objective: One of the indications for endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) is the diagnosis of mediastinal and/or hilar lymphadenopathy. The aim of this study is to report the place of EBUS probe using a single- channel bronchoscope that allows TBNA after localisation of lymph nodes under ultrasound in the diagnosis of mediastinal and hiler lymph nodes.Material and Method: Retrospectively, 45 patients were enrolled with a proven lymph node on CT and an indication for TBNA for diagnosis. Lymph nodes were verified under local anesthesia by EBUS and sampled using a Wang 22 gauge cytology needle. The EU-M30s model EBUS and UM-BS 20-26 R Olympus ultrasonic probe was used. Procedures were applied through Pentax EB 1970 model bronchoscope. Results: TBNA procedures were performed using a flexible bronchoscope and a 22-gauge Wang needle in 45 consecutive patients (23 women (51.1%); mean age, 47±15 years [+/- SD] (17-74)) who had mediastinal or hilar adenopathy identified on chest CT The average number of needle passes was 5.0±1.8 (2-9) per patient. A total of 85 lymph nodes were sampled. Adequate material was found in all of the patients (100%). In 36 (80.0%) of the cases the adequate material was diagnostic. The diagnostic value of EBUS TBNA was 82.4% in sarcoidosis, 60% in tuberculosis and 100% in small cell lung carcinoma and nonsmall cell lung carcinoma. Conclusion: EBUS guided TBNA of mediastinal and hilar lymph nodes is a safe approach which increases the percentage of adequate material and diagnostic yield.

An Inequality for Second Order Differential Equation with Retarded Argument  [PDF]
Erdo?an ?en
Advances in Pure Mathematics (APM) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/apm.2011.14043
Abstract: Applications of differential equations with retarded argument can be encountered in the theory of automatic control, in the theory of self-oscillatory systems, in the study of problems connected with combustion in rocket engines, in a number of problems in economics, biophysics. The problems in this areas can be solved reducing differential equations with retarded argument. In this work an important inequality for second order differential equation with retarded argument is obtained.
The Economic and Environmental Impacts of Constructing Hydro Power Plants in Turkey: A Dynamic CGE Analysis (2004-2020)  [PDF]

Natural Resources (NR) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/nr.2010.12007
Abstract: Since Turkey’s economy and population is rapidly growing, Turkey mostly meets its energy demand from imported fossil sources due to the very limited indigenous oil and natural gas resources. However, Turkey has abundant renewable resources especially, hydro power potential to be used for generation of electricity. But only one-third of this significant economical potential could be used. This usage seems insufficient when compared with that of European countries. In order to analyze the potential long term impacts of the hydro power expanding shock on some macroeconomic variables of interest such as GDP, real consumption, real investment, exports, imports, trade balance, and carbon emissions, we developed TurGEM-D, a dynamic multisectoral general equilibrium model of the Turkish economy. Using TurGEM-D, we analyzed the impact of hydro power shock under policy scenario doubling hydro power generation. The simulation results show that doubling hydro power have slightly positive effects on macro indicators and carbon emissions for Turkish economy.

Pakistan Journal of Biological Sciences , 2004,
Abstract: This study was carried out to compare the infestation ratio of Pink Bollworm, PBW (Pectinophora gossypiella Saund.) and Spiny Bollworm, SBW (Earias insulana Boisd.) on blind bolls in Harran (Sanliurfa), Kiziltepe (Mardin) and Bismil (Diyarbakir) Plains during 2002-2003. The blind bolls were collected from cotton fields at the end of the harvest and the infestation ratio with these pests was determined. Infestation ratio, the numbers of PBW and SBW larvae of that three plains were compared with each other. At the end of this study, Harran Plain was recorded as the most infested area with these bollworms. The population of PBW larvae was higher than that of SBW in Harran Plain. In contrast, the population of SBW larvae was higher than that of PBW in Bismil and Kiziltepe Plains. The infestation ratio with these bollworms of collected blind bolls in Harran, Kiziltepe and Bismil Plains in 2002-2003 was found as, 73.71, 65.28, 11.57, 22.00, 6.28 and 6.71%, respectively. In addition, PBW was recorded for the first time Kiziltepe and Bismil Plains with this study

AbstractThe purpos of this study is to discuss the concept of chaos as for whether or not it is really worth fearing. This study focuses upon the 1999 earthquake, which brought about the death of thousands of people, created crisis in the economy of both people and country, and eventually resulted in a sense of chaos. Secondly, the study also examines the relationship between the earthquake and education. In the research, this fragile structure has been investigated, and a special attention has been given to uniqueness. ( ) . . . . .
