Creative Education (CE) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2014.52011

In 1999, the Judaic Education Council of Rio de Janeiro implemented the Educational Innovation Program (EIP) in the Israeli schools of that city so as to meet the new trends in Brazilian education. The present work was designed to evaluate the modifications taking place in the school environment as a result of EIP implementation, a program whose core idea is to work on knowledge building from the Piagetian perspective, active learning in Dewey’s conception, and multiple intelligences as presented by Gardner. In order to assess the chosen program, we used a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews with the participants and observation of classrooms from the first to the fifth grade of elementary school. The results of our study showed that from the implementation of the program, the professionals involved were more motivated to search for information and update their knowledge so as to meet the differences between students, using a diversity of strategies and dynamic activities which led to encouraging student autonomy as regards their learning. The reported difficulties for the work to proceed were mainly about the schoolwork timetable planned for both the project and the subjects, and teachers having to cover an extensive curriculum, common to other Brazilian schools. In every innovative program, it is important for the professionals involved in it to continually re-evaluate its development, searching for changes or alternatives as difficulties are encountered. The aim of the present paper is to report the main findings of this research, as well as indicate the strengths and precautions to take in educational innovation proposals whose primary focus is classroom innovation.

Sensibilidades e representa??es urbanas na transferência da capital de Minas Gerais
Juli?o, Letícia;
História (S?o Paulo) , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-90742011000100006
Abstract: this study analyzes the urban representations generated as a consequence of the rupture experienced at the time of the transfer of the capital of minas gerais, in the last decade of the 19th century. the construction of a modern city, belo horizonte, as the new capital of minas gerais, managed to encapsulate the newly-installed brand of republican power in brazil, replacing the old ouro preto, seat of government and indisputable symbol of colonial domain and the administration of the recently-deposed monarchy. the contemporaneous urban images evident in political discourse, in chronicles, newspapers, sundry records and even literary writings are expressive of a new urban sensibility emerging from the process of the capital's transference. apparent are feelings and perceptions that oscillate between nostalgia, enchantment and fear caused by the simultaneous actions of the abandonment of one capital city and the invention of another. many of these images have been incorporated into the urban imagination and still contribute today to the formulations of the identity of both cities - ouro preto and belo horizonte.
Breviário de um museu mutante
Nedel, Letícia Borges;
Horizontes Antropológicos , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-71832005000100006
Abstract: this paper is about the implantation of a bureaucratic management culture in rio grande do sul - favoring the trajectory of julio de castilhos museum, first museum created in the state at 1903. the analysis is centered on the factors that conditioned the removal of the initial naturalistic reference, inspired by etnografic museums from the beginning of the xxth century, towards a regionalistic perspective of past reconstruction - stated officially in 1954's regiment. from 1952 to 1958, under the direction of the historian and "folk scientist" dante de laytano, the museum becomes a resistent point against the partners of the instituto histórico e geográfico do rio grande do sul (ihgrs) and a recruiting nucleus for comiss?o gaúcha de folclore, official representative of campanha de defesa do folclore brasileiro in the state. at this moment it starts to compete for the institucional allotment of the government with tradicionalistas, grouped around instituto de tradi??es e folclore, created in 1954.
O Sphan e a cultura museológica no Brasil
Juli?o, Letícia;
Estudos Históricos (Rio de Janeiro) , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-21862009000100008
Abstract: research on the institutionalization of a conservationist policy in brazil has privileged either the analysis of discourses on heritage, as formulated by the service for the protection of historical and artistic heritage (sphan), or the examination of measures aimed at protecting architectural heritage, which has constituted the core of governmental action in the field. few studies mention similar endeavors in the field of museums, which constitutes the main objective of this article. i discuss a proposal for the creation of regional museums, taking the state of minas gerais in the 1950s as a case study.
A recep??o da obra de Gilberto Freyre no Rio Grande do Sul
Nedel, Letícia;
Mana , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-93132007000100004
Abstract: the period in the wake of the novo estado (new state), when revisionism took hold of historiographic production in rio grande do sul, provided the context for the writings of gilberto freyre to acquire a greater influence among the southern intelligentsia. the article investigates the reasons for this delayed alignment with the analytic model of the recife author. at a time marked by the rise of the social sciences and the loss in authority of historical narratives centred on the integrating role of military heroes, local historians and critics combined forces to reverse the motivating factors that had previously separated the textual production of the ?province? from the themes in fashion in the intellectual ?centre? of brazil (rio de janeiro and s?o paulo). this step required closing the gap between history and folklore, meaning the latter was no longer apprehended as a branch of philology or literary regionalism, but as an area of study to be approached from a ?sociological? angle.

Termoluminescência de materiais e sua aplica??o em dosimetria da radia??o
Campos, Letícia L.;
Ceramica , 1998, DOI: 10.1590/S0366-69131998000600007
Abstract: thermoluminescence dosimetry is a versatile tool for the assessment of dose from ionising radiation. the wide variety of tld ceramic materials and their different physical forms allow the determination of different radiations qualities at dose levels from m gy to kgy. major advantages of tl dosimeters are their small physical size and that no cables or auxiliary equipment is required during the dose measurement. this makes them well suited for a wide range of applications. this article aims to present a short review of basic principles of, and a theoretical approach to, thermoluminescence, the usual basic thermoluminescence model, some applications to the dosimetry of ionising radiations and the research developed at ipen in this area.
Avalia??o tecnológica e análise custo-efetividade em saúde: a incorpora??o de tecnologias e a produ??o de diretrizes clínicas para o SUS
Silva,Letícia Krauss;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232003000200014
Abstract: this work discusses the role of technology assessment in health care, particularly cost-effectiveness, for the planning and management of an evidence-based diffusion and incorporation (financing) of health technologies in the sus. the paper also explains the role of technology assessment in the elaboration of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, which can serve as important tools for improving quality and efficiency in the sus. initially the objectives, requirements and limitations of the main methodologies used for technology assessment to synthesize knowledge about the implications of the use of technologies are introduced. the relevance, for cost-effectiveness analysis, of the evidence regarding the benefits of the technology, of the use of (incremental) economic, rather than account/administrative, costs, and of making explicit the viewpoints assumed by the analysis are emphasized. a preliminary analysis of the processes of technology diffusion and incorporation in the sus is presented. the importance and possibilities of improving such processes, as well as that related to the elaboration of clinical practice guidelines, through the implementation of well designed and performed technology assessment activities, which take both the government and society's viewpoints, are pointed out.
O fator de impacto do ISI e a avalia??o da produ??o científica: aspectos conceituais e metodológicos
Strehl, Letícia;
Ciência da Informa??o , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-19652005000100003
Abstract: this paper deals with concepts and methods concerning the use of the impact factor (if), as defined by the institute for scientific information (isi), on the evaluation of scientific production published in specialized journals. the history of if is discussed from its first formulation up to the moment when it became the subject of a large amount of investigations regarding the differences among the values for different knowledge areas. it is emphasized that the main variables affecting if are journal density and their obsolescence rate. the synchronous and diachronous approaches used to measure obsolescence are discussed, such as the immediacy index, half-life of citations and citation age. as a conclusion, the brazilian system for scientific evaluation is analyzed, as well as the scielo role on the formulation of bibliometric indicators.
Avalia??o da consistência da indexa??o realizada em uma biblioteca universitária de artes
Strehl, Letícia;
Ciência da Informa??o , 1998, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-19651998000300011
Abstract: evaluate indexing on a bibliographic database of a university library, whose collection is specialized on plastic arts, music and theater, focusing on standards for descriptors presentation. the criteria defined in the study characterize a semi-structured indexing policy for the library, aiming at the identification of existent problems on subject representation and the establishment of guidelines for indexing whiches coherent and of quality. adopted guidelines for descriptores presentation are used as evaluation criteria and are concerned with: number of words per descriptor; use of singular and plural synonymous; compound descriptors; homograph or inconsistent terms; descriptors rotation; relationship of redundant subjects; relationship of one subject to its subcategory; descriptors that identify historical periods; subjects compound by geografic identifiers; subject compound by geografic and chronological identifiers. the sample analysed was constituted of 743 descriptors of plastic arts. the results were presented on table accompanied by an analysis if each identified problem and related to the standard for presentation of descriptors. the evaluation showed that the bibliographic database indexing presents low level of consistency.
