Breviário de um museu mutante
Nedel, Letícia Borges;
Horizontes Antropológicos , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-71832005000100006
Abstract: this paper is about the implantation of a bureaucratic management culture in rio grande do sul - favoring the trajectory of julio de castilhos museum, first museum created in the state at 1903. the analysis is centered on the factors that conditioned the removal of the initial naturalistic reference, inspired by etnografic museums from the beginning of the xxth century, towards a regionalistic perspective of past reconstruction - stated officially in 1954's regiment. from 1952 to 1958, under the direction of the historian and "folk scientist" dante de laytano, the museum becomes a resistent point against the partners of the instituto histórico e geográfico do rio grande do sul (ihgrs) and a recruiting nucleus for comiss?o gaúcha de folclore, official representative of campanha de defesa do folclore brasileiro in the state. at this moment it starts to compete for the institucional allotment of the government with tradicionalistas, grouped around instituto de tradi??es e folclore, created in 1954.
Entre a beleza do morto e os excessos dos vivos: folclore e tradicionalismo no Brasil meridional
Nedel, Letícia Borges;
Revista Brasileira de História , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-01882011000200011
Abstract: this article examines the participation of gauchos in the self-named brazilian folkloric movement (movimento folclórico brasileiro) between the 1940s and 1960s. local participants are divided into two categories of folklorists: traditional folklorists and the group of intellectuals and artists from the state folklore commission (comiss?o estadual de folclore - cef), official representative of the national folklore commission (comiss?o nacional de folclore - cnfl) in rio grande do sul. unequal in authority and social position, the asymmetry of the two groups in the regional and national spheres of mutual recognition is the basis on which the authors distinctly see their ancestrality, professional activities, and the social purpose of folklore studies.

Mallmann, André;Ataíde, Jane Clei Oliveira;Amoedo, Rosa;Rocha, Paulo Vicente;Jacques, Letícia Borges;
Brazilian Oral Research , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-83242007000300003
Abstract: the purpose of this study was to evaluate the compressive strength of two glass ionomer cements, a conventional one (vitro fil? - dfl) and a resin-modified material (vitro fil lc? - dfl), using two test specimen dimensions: one with 6 mm in height and 4 mm in diameter and the other with 12 mm in height and 6 mm in diameter, according to the iso 7489:1986 specification and the ansi/ada specification no. 66 for dental glass ionomer cement, respectively. ten specimens were fabricated with each material and for each size, in a total of 40 specimens. they were stored in distilled water for 24 hours and then subjected to a compressive strength test in a universal testing machine (emic), at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. the data were statistically analyzed using the kruskal-wallis test (5%). mean compressive strength values (mpa) were: 54.00 ± 6.6 and 105.10 ± 17.3 for the 12 mm x 6 mm sample using vitro fil and vitro fil lc, respectively, and 46.00 ± 3.8 and 91.10 ± 8.2 for the 6 mm x 4 mm sample using vitro fil and vitro fil lc, respectively. the resin-modified glass ionomer cement obtained the best results, irrespective of specimen dimensions. for both glass ionomer materials, the 12 mm x 6 mm matrix led to higher compressive strength results than the 6 mm x 4 mm matrix. a higher variability in results was observed when the glass ionomer cements were used in the larger matrices.

RSBO , 2009,
Abstract: Introduction and objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate thepH change promoted by the insertion of calcium hydroxide andiodoform associated or not to a vehicle – Carbowax 1000 – in threedifferent solutions: distilled water, saline or alcohol. Material andmethods: For this study, 50 ml of the solution were inserted in a glassbeaker. One gram of the drug associated or not to the vehicle wasprogressively inserted into the solution (up to 10 g). After each insertion of the drugs, the pH of the solution was measured. Results: It was observed that calcium hydroxide promoted a basic pH (around 12),while iodoform promoted a neutral pH. Once iodoform is soluble infat and in alcohol, pH values were lower when this drug was associatedto Carbowax and acid pH values were found when iodoform was dilutedin alcohol.Conclusion: It was concluded that calcium hydroxidepromoted basic pH values and iodoform neutral pH values.

Abstract: Introduction and objective: The proposal of this study was to verifythe quality of ultrasonic instrumentation shaping influenced by different types of files – K, K-flex and nickel-titanium – and different trademarks. Material and methods: 30 blocks with simulated canals were divided randomly in three groups in agreement with type of file and trademark. They were prepared by crown-down technique, with apical third prepared in agreement with the division. Results: Through statistical analysis it was possible to notice that the group of K-flex files FKG obtained statistically significant difference when compared to groups K FKG , K Dentsply-Maillefer and K-flex Dentsply-Maillefer . The group of K-flex files Dentsply-Maillefer has also showed difference when compared to group of nickel-titanium files FKG . Conclusion:The ultrasonic system can cause apical alteration with lacerated foramen, and the trademark can influence the final result.

RSBO , 2010,
Abstract: Introduction: The outcome of endodontic treatment is related to the sealing ability of temporary dental restoration, which aims to prevent bacterial infiltration and recontamination of the root canal system.Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the sealing ability of two temporary resin-based cements: Fill Magic Tempo and Bioplic.Material and methods: Twenty-four third molars were used, and twenty-two of them were opened to the pulp chamber (resulting in a class I cavity) and randomly divided: group 1 was restored using Fill Magic Tempo (n = 10) and group 2 was restored using Bioplic (n = 10).The negative control group was not opened (n = 2), and the positive control group was opened but not restored (n = 2). Then the root and apex of the teeth were varnished to become impermeable. All samples were immersed in 2% methylene blue and kept at 37°C for 72h.After longitudinal sectioning, the linear leakage was measured in mm.In sequence, the statistical analysis was performed using Mann-Whitney test with a level of significance of 5%. Results: Most part of the samples showed leakage of 1 mm, and only the negative control group showed total leakage. There was no significant difference between the tested materials. Conclusion: It is possible to conclude that both resin-based cements showed satisfactory results on sealing ability during endodontic treatment.

Einstein (S?o Paulo) , 2010,
Abstract: Objective: To compare the profile of women looking for gynecological care to the profile of women invited to participate in the program, assessing breast and cervical cancer risk factors in each group and comparing Papanicolaou’s test and mammography results. Methods: Medical records of 46 women participating in a breast and cervical cancer prevention program and 42 medical reports of women that regularly visited the primary healthcare unit from August to December 2006 were examined. Results: The mean interval between the last Papanicolaou’s tests was of approximately 19.7 months when comparing women visiting their physician and 25.3 participants in the program. There was one case (1.1%) of high grade intraepithelial lesion in one woman included in the program. Regarding breast cancer, when comparing both groups, we verified that all women above the age of 40 years that participated in the program underwent mammography; this was not verified in the group seeing a physician. This shows the efficacy of this screening, actively looking for women in the age group at risk for breast cancer. Conclusions: Active search is important to recruit women; the screening program needs improvement to show its real impact on morbidity and mortality of these cancers.

Antimicrobial prophylaxis aim at preventing surgical wound contamination after the exposure to any microorganism and before infection is established. Inhibitory antimicrobial concentrations should be reached and maintained on the incision throughout the entire surgical procedure in order to prevent microbial growth. In veterinary medicine, antimicrobial prophylaxis is clearly disclosure and accepted as an important action to control and reduce the incidence of surgical wound infection. This study evaluated the use of antibiotics in small animals' surgeries at the Veterinary Hospital of the Universidade Federal de Vi osa, comparing the need and the reality. The population in study consisted of patients undergoing surgical procedures from May 11 to November 11, 2007. The routine use of antibiotics was not altered in any way for this study. The results showed that it is necessary to establish some criteria for the use of antimicrobials at the Veterinary Hospital of the Universidade Federal de Vi osa as well as the standardization of the same to correct possible failures in the process of surgical site infection.
