Abstract: crushed stone mining is the third largest mining economy in brazil, where almost half is produced in the sao paulo metropolitan region. the segment registers the highest number of accidents among the extractive industries, which justifies the concern with workers’ health and safety and the importance of controlling occupational hazards. since 2002, the nr-22 standard (nr-22: occupational health and safety in mining) makes compulsory the elaboration of a risk management program that identifies risks and establishes control measures. considering the crushed stone mining industry’s importance to the state, this paper evaluates and discusses the risks identified in unit operations during the production process of crushed stone in an open pit mine in order to propose control measures for the development of the risk management program. although this study refers to a specific quarry, it can be applied to other mines from the same sector, since some considerations are made regarding differences in manufacturing processes. the research was based on the identification of the main risks associated with drilling, blasting, load & haulage, crushing and screening through field measurements of some hazardous agents, together with company reports. the results contributed to the choice of the appropriate control measures for the improvement of workers’ health and safety conditions.
Non-Gaussian features of primordial magnetic fields in power-law inflation

Physics , 2012, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevD.85.103532
Abstract: We show that a conformal-invariance violating coupling of the inflaton to electromagnetism produces a cross correlation between curvature fluctuations and a spectrum of primordial magnetic fields. According to this model, in the case of power-law inflation, a primordial magnetic field is generated with a nearly flat power spectrum and rms amplitude ranging from nG to pG. We study the cross correlation, a three-point function of the curvature perturbation and two powers of the magnetic field, in real and momentum space. The cross-correlation coefficient, a dimensionless ratio of the three-point function with the curvature perturbation and magnetic field power spectra, can be several orders of magnitude larger than expected as based on the amplitude of scalar metric perturbations from inflation. In momentum space, the cross-correlation peaks for flattened triangle configurations, and is three orders of magnitude larger than the squeezed triangle configuration. These results suggest likely methods for distinguishing the observational signatures of the model.
Correlation of inflation-produced magnetic fields with scalar fluctuations

Physics , 2011, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevD.84.123525
Abstract: If the conformal invariance of electromagnetism is broken during inflation, then primordial magnetic fields may be produced. If this symmetry breaking is generated by the coupling between electromagnetism and a scalar field---e.g. the inflaton, curvaton, or the Ricci scalar---then these magnetic fields may be correlated with primordial density perturbations, opening a new window to the study of non-gaussianity in cosmology. In order to illustrate, we couple electromagnetism to an auxiliary scalar field in a de Sitter background. We calculate the power spectra for scalar-field perturbations and magnetic fields, showing how a scale-free magnetic field spectrum with rms amplitude of ~nG at Mpc scales may be achieved. We explore the Fourier-space dependence of the cross-correlation between the scalar field and magnetic fields, showing that the dimensionless amplitude, measured in units of the power spectra, can grow as large as ~500 H_I/M, where H_I is the inflationary Hubble constant and M is the effective mass scale of the coupling.
DESGASTE POR ABRASIóN DEL ACERO API 5L X65 REVESTIDO CON NIOBIO POR ASPERSIóN TéRMICA A PLASMA Y CON INCONEL 625 POR SOLDADURA

DYNA , 2012,
Sessile ciliates on artificial substrata submerged in a polluted estuary (Santos, SP, Brazil)

Boletim do Instituto Oceanográfico , 1985, DOI: 10.1590/S0373-55241985000100007
Abstract: primary growth was analysed on artificial substrata submerged at three sites of the santos estuary (state of s?o paulo, brazil). research on sessile ciliates was emphasized because they were the most conspicuous organisms of the primary growth developed along this estuary. zoothamnium commune, dominated near the headwaters of the estuary, where the greatest amount of suspended matter in the water was found. ephelota gemmipara dominated downstream. although short time variability was observed in the colonization of substrata submerged on subsequent days, seasonal patterns could be determined. these patterns were characterized by a greater number of rare species of sessile ciliates, and a higher density of the most frequent ones, during spring and summer.

Abstract: contamination of fresh milk with staphylococcus aureus was assessed comparatively through routine phenotypic (coagulase tube test and coagulase slide test) and genotypic (pcr) screening of 128 s. aureus strains isolated from 555 milk samples. these samples were collected from 362 cows with subclinical mastitis, hosted in different dairy herds at various locations of the northern and northeastern rural areas of the state of rio de janeiro, 39.7% of which were cmt-positive. all s. aureus isolates tested positive for the presence of the coagulase gene by pcr and the isolates could be grouped into four distinct classes according to the size of the pcr product. the strains also yielded variable results when assayed with coagulase test. taken together, these data indicate the existence of extensive polymorphism at the coagulase gene locus in the genus staphylococcus and exemplifies the extent of molecular and phenotypic heterogeneity associated with the strains circulating in rural herds.
