Resistência adesiva de resinas compostas à dentina

Abstract: there is a wealthy literature on bonding strength of composites to dentine. one of the reasons for the large number of studies is the continuous introduction of new bonding agents in combination with accumulated knowledge about the dentine substrate conditions. the aim of the present study was to compare the "in vitro" tensile bond strengths of two dentine bonding systems (3m and kerr) applied to different dentine roughness (220 and 600 grit)and two sizes of bonding areas (3,14 mm2 and 12,56 mm2). different storage conditions (initial and final) were also considered. one hundred and sixty human teeth were randomly allocated in 4 groups. the kerr system groups and the smallest bonding area groups showed the highest tensile strengths. the storage condition and the substrate roughness did not display a significant influence on bond strengths.

Abstract: As pesquisas relacionadas com ades o à dentina, em virtude da ampla aplicabilidade, s o de grande interesse para a Odontologia. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar, através de ensaios de tra o, a resistência adesiva ao substrato dentinário, em fun o de dois sistemas adesivos (3M e Kerr), dois níveis de rugosidade do substrato dentinário (lixas 220 e 600), duas áreas de colagem (3,14 mm2 - 12,56 mm2), e duas condi es de armazenagem (inicial e final). A análise dos resultados evidenciou que: 1) houve diferen a estatisticamente significativa entre os dois sistemas adesivos, sendo que o da Kerr apresentou os valores mais elevados de resistência adesiva; 2) diferen as significativas n o ficaram evidentes na resistência da ades o entre os dois níveis de rugosidade dentinária; 3) as colagens em áreas menores apresentaram, em nível altamente significativo, maior resistência adesiva; 4) a condi o de armazenagem influiu nos resultados dependendo da área e do sistema adesivo.
Osteomyelitis and pyoarthritis resulting from local paracoccidioidomycosis in an immunocompetent patient: a case report

Abstract: Introduction Paracoccidioidomycosis is a type of mycosis that is endemic to Brazil and is triggered by the fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. Isolated bone involvement in this disease is very rare, especially in children. To the best of our knowledge this report documents the first case of an immunocompetent pediatric patient in which paracoccidioidomycosis of the hip articulation was the sole manifestation of the disease (that is, there were no pulmonary or skin lesions). Case presentation An 11-year-old Brazilian Caucasian boy from a rural area was examined in the orthopedic ward of our emergency department. Our patient reported a three-month history of pain in the right hip with intermittent claudication and also complained of recurring episodes of intense pain and an inability to walk, which he had been experiencing for the previous five days. He additionally presented with a fever that had persisted for two days. Our patient’s medical history did not include any clinical respiratory manifestations, skin lesions, history of trauma or immunosuppression risk factors. Conclusions This is one of the very few reported cases of isolated articular involvement in osteomyelitis in a pediatric immunocompetent patient. Paracoccidioidomycosis should be considered among the differential diagnoses in such cases, especially in cases of patients who reside in rural areas where the condition is considered to be endemic, in order to administer the proper course of treatment in a timely fashion and improve the chances of a favorable prognosis.
Microhardness of Ni-Cr alloys under different casting conditions

Abstract: this study evaluated the microhardness of ni-cr alloys used in fixed prosthodontics after casting under different conditions. the casting conditions were: (1-flame/air torch) flame made of a gas/oxygen mixture and centrifugal casting machine in a non-controlled casting environment; (2-induction/argon) electromagnetic induction in an environment controlled with argon; (3-induction/vacuum) electromagnetic induction in a vacuum environment; (4-induction/air) electromagnetic induction in a non-controlled casting environment. the 3 alloys used were ni-cr-mo-ti, ni-cr-mo-be, and ni-cr-mo-nb. four castings with 5 cylindrical, 15 mm-long specimens (diameter: 1.6 mm) in each casting ring were prepared. after casting, the specimens were embedded in resin and polished for vickers microhardness (vh) measurements in a shimadzu hmv-2 (1,000 g for 10 s). a total of 5 indentations were done for each ring, one in each specimen. the data was subjected to two-way anova and tukey's multiple comparison tests (a = 0.05). the vh values of ni-cr-mo-ti (422 ± 7.8) were statistically higher (p < 0.05) than those of ni-cr-mo-nb (415 ± 7.6). the lowest vh values were found for ni-cr-mo-be (359 ± 10.7). the vh values obtained in the conditions induction/argon and induction/vacuum were similar (p > 0.05) and lower than the values obtained in the conditions induction/air and flame/air torch (p < 0.05). the vh values in the conditions induction/air and flame/air were similar (p > 0.05). the microhardness of the alloys is influenced by their composition and casting method. the hardness of the ni-cr alloys was higher when they were cast with the induction/air and flame/air torch methods.
The influence of handling on the elasticity of addition silicone putties

Abstract: the handling of vinyl polysiloxane (addition silicone) impression putties with latex gloves is said to interfere with the setting of these impression materials. the aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of handling techniques on the setting of vinyl polysiloxane impression putties using several types of gloves. the setting of these materials was evaluated by means of an elasticimeter. four vinyl polysiloxane putty impression materials and five brands of gloves (one made of vinyl, one of synthetic rubber, and three of natural rubber) were studied. based on the type of glove, they were previously washed or not, and a spatula was used or not for initial mixing (before handmixing). the vinyl, the synthetic and one of the natural rubber gloves did not require the previous washing procedure and/or the use of a spatula for initial mixing. two other natural rubber gloves - depending on the silicone -, showed satisfactory results only when the initial mixing was performed with a spatula. it was concluded that setting inhibition depends on the kind of vinyl polysiloxane impression material and the kind of gloves used, but when the initial mixing was performed with the spatula this setting inhibition was overcome. the results of this study also showed that it is possible to associate cross-contamination control and satisfactory performance of addition silicone putty materials. when doubts arise from the compatibility between vinyl polysiloxane impression putties and gloves, the initial mixing should be performed with a spatula.

Abstract: the purpose of the present study was to evaluate the bond strength of four adhesive systems to dentin. twelve human third molars had their occlusal enamel removed in order to expose a flat dentinal surface, on which the adhesive procedures were carried out. the teeth were divided into four groups, according to the employed adhesive system and composite resin: group 1 - single bond + p60 (sb); group 2 - bond 1 + surefil (b1); group 3 - prime & bond nt + alert (nt); and group 4 - prime & bond 2.1 + tph (2.1). after 24 h in distilled water at 37oc, the teeth were longitudinally sectioned in two perpendicular directions in order to obtain parallelogram-shaped specimens with a cross-sectional area of 0.8 mm2 and 10 mm of length, on the average. the test specimens were submitted to microtensile test. the data were submitted to anova (a = 0.05), which revealed no differences between the groups, although the analysis of the specimens that presented early fracture evidenced the lower sensitivity of the sb system.

Abstract: we evaluated tensile bond strengths between a nickel-chromium alloy and cements at different times (one and 90 days) using or not thermocycling. alloy used was litecast b, and luting cements were ketac-cem, vitremer, and fluoride enforce with three variations: a) only primer; b) with primer and bond; c) only with bond. metallic discs with 6 mm diameter were cemented together and immersed in distilled water. half specimens were thermocycled and half one not. conclusions were: ketac-cem presented low bonding strength, being that of vitremer very higher; the material enforce when used only with primer increased adhesion with time but yet remained relatively low after 90 days; enforce used with bond only achieved superior adhesion, still present specially with termocycling after 90 days; influence of thermocycling depends on adhesive system.

Abstract: O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a resistência adesiva de quatro sistemas adesivos, composicionalmente diferentes, aplicados à dentina humana. Doze dentes terceiros molares humanos tiveram o esmalte oclusal removido para exposi o de uma superfície plana de dentina, na qual foram realizados os procedimentos de ades o. Os dentes foram aleatoriamente divididos em quatro grupos, considerando-se o sistema adesivo e a resina composta a serem empregados: Grupo 1 - Single Bond + P60 (SB); Grupo 2 - Bond 1 + Surefil (B1); Grupo 3 - Prime & Bond NT + Alert (NT) e Grupo 4 - Prime & Bond 2.1 + TPH (2.1). Após 24 h de armazenagem em água destilada a 37oC, os dentes foram seccionados, longitudinalmente, em cortes perpendiculares entre si, para que fossem obtidos espécimes em formato de um paralelogramo com sec o transversal retangular de 0,8 mm2 de área e 10 mm de comprimento, em média. Os espécimes foram submetidos ao teste de microtra o. A análise de variancia (alfa = 0,05) demonstrou n o haver diferen a significante entre os valores médios de resistência obtidos pelos quatro adesivos, embora a análise dos espécimes que sofreram fratura precoce tenha evidenciado menor sensibilidade para o sistema SB.

Abstract: A investiga o teve a finalidade de avaliar a resistência de uni o de uma liga de níquel-cromo com diversos agentes cimentantes frente à imers o, sem ou com termociclagem e idade. A liga usada foi a Litecast B. Os sistemas adesivos usados foram Ketac-Cem, Vitremer, Enforce com Flúor em três varia es: a) com primer apenas (Enforce P); b) com primer e adesivo (Enforce P + A); c) apenas adesivo (Enforce A). Discos metálicos, obtidos por fundi o, foram cimentados entre si, constituindo os corpos de prova, que foram imersos em água destilada e submetidos ou n o à ciclagem térmica. Os testes foram feitos 1 e 90 dias após a cimenta o. As conclus es foram: o Ketac-Cem apresentou baixa resistência adesiva, sendo superado pelo Vitremer; o Enforce P, embora aumentasse a resistência ao longo do tempo, fez com que ela permanecesse baixa; o Enforce P + A apresentou alta resistência em um dia, que diminuiu ao longo do tempo; o Enforce A apresentou superioridade adesiva, que se manteve ao longo do tempo com ciclagem térmica; a influência da ciclagem térmica foi dependente do sistema adesivo.
