Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano , 2006,
Abstract: Among the various causes for cardiovascular problems affecting the world population nowadays, the most relevant risk factors is sedentary lifestyle. Many studies have been carried out to analyse and elucidate main adaptations on the cardiovascular system stimulated by different sorts of exercises. In this way, this study had aimed at comparing the acute response of double product (DP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) after treadmill (TRM), stationary bicycle (BIC) or muscle circuit training (MCT) exercises. Nine individuals (6 women and 3 men) exercised at 60% of heart rate reserve (HRR) on the TRM and BIC and at 60% of one repetition maximum (1RM) in MCT. The results showed that pre- and post-effort DP were significantly difference in all three exercises. However, DP did not differ among exercise types. The hypotensive DBP pos-effort response was greater in MCT. According to the results, it was concluded that there is no difference on the heart work demand rate estimated by DP among the three exercises and MCT at 60% 1RM provokes a greater hypotensive DBP post-effort response.

Abstract: the goal of the present work was to evaluate the thermal environment inside physical models of broiler housings built in reduced scale (1:10). the thermal comfort was evaluated through the black globe humidity index (bghi), thermal heat load (thl) and effectiveness of the roofs in reducing the bghi in relation to roofs built with aluminum tiles (e). four models built with ceramic tiles and equipped with natural or forced ventilation were compared to two models built with ceramic and aluminum tiles, respectively, without ridge vent. it was concluded that the roofs with forced (b30cvf) and natural (b30cvn) ventilation chamber provided better thermal environments inside the reduced models, in which the last has the advantage of not requesting electric power source.

Abstract: the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different irrigation controls implemented in four planting densities on a system of drip on the incidence and severity of rust and to assess the influence of leaf growth on the progress curve of this disease. the experiment was conducted in the experimental area of the federal university of lavras - mg, using the cultivar rubi mg-1192 with 6 years. the experimental design was randomized blocks with four replicates. the treatments consisted of four tranches represented by planting densities (conventional and non-conventional): 2500 (4.0 x1.0 m), 3333 (3.0 x 1.0 m), 5000 (2.0 x 1.0 m), 10,000 (2.0 x 0.5 m) plants / ha, with four subplots: the tension when irrigation water in the soil reaches values of 20 and 60kpa; using water balance management of irrigation (calculated by the software irriplus) with rounds of irrigation fixed three days per week and a control without irrigation, making a total of 16 treatments. each subplot line consisted of 10 plants with the six central plants considered as useful. the incidence and severity of rust and the percentage of grown of coffee plants were evaluated. after statistical analyses the data were converted to area under the curve of disease and growth progress. it was verified that the management of irrigation influenced the progress curve of growth, but it did not interfere in the progress curve of the incidence and severity of coffee rust. the dense system of plantation favored the incidence of rust. however, the planting densities did not affect growth.

Abstract: Objective. The purpose of this study was to analyze factors related to lower walking speed in persons with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). Methods. A cross-sectional survey was conducted. The study participants were 120 consecutive PwMS, who were able to walk, even with device assistance. Demographic and clinical data were collected. Walking speed was measured in 10 m walk test. Possible factors were assessed: disability, fatigue, visual functioning, balance confidence, physical activity level, walking impact, cognitive interference, and motor planning. A forward linear multiple regression analysis examined the correlation with lower speed. Results. Lower walking speed was observed in 85% of the patients. Fatigue (41%), recurrent falls (30%), and balance problems were also present, even with mild disability (average ). A good level of physical activity was noted in most of the subjects. Dual-task procedure revealed 11.58% of walking speed reduction. Many participants (69.57%) imagined greater walking speed than motor execution (mean ≥ 28.42%). Physical activity level was the only characteristic that demonstrated no significant difference between the groups (lower versus normal walking speed). Many mobility measures were correlated with walking speed; however, disability, balance confidence, and motor planning were the most significant. Conclusions. Disability, balance confidence, and motor planning were correlated with lower walking speed. 1. Introduction Persons with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) present difficulties in mobility, self-care, and domestic life [1]. Many researchers have found lower walking speed in the PwMS group, when compared with the control group [2–4]. Difficulty in walking is the most visible sign of functional impairments caused by multiple sclerosis (MS) [5]. Among PwMS, 41% reported having difficulty in walking, and 13% related inability to walk at least twice a week. Of those with difficulty in walking, 70% stated that it was the most challenging aspect of having MS [6]. It has been shown that gait and balance impairment may begin to deteriorate in the early stages of the disease, even in the absence of clinical signs of pyramidal dysfunction [7]. Walking is a complex functional activity; thus, many variables contribute to or influence walking speed. Fritz and Lusardi [8] reported that these include an individual’s health status, motor control, muscle performance and musculoskeletal condition, sensory and perceptual function, endurance and habitual activity level, cognitive status, and motivation and mental health, as well as the

Abstract: aortic endovascular exclusion technique called 'chimney' consists of placing stents through abdominal aortic visceral branches and a prosthesis that excludes the thoraco-abdominal aneurysm. stents and an aortic endoprosthesis are placed in the renal arteries. this method is primarily used when open surgery is too risky. the mechanism that provides aneurysm sac increase without the visible presence of endoleaks has not been fully elucidated. the expansion of the aneurysm sac, due to endotension, is difficult to diagnose, even with the use of advanced imaging tests. its diagnosis is made by exclusion. we present a case of a late complication in a high-risk patient after a 'chimney' endovascular procedure. following the surgery, the patient presented a ruptured aneurysm sac without a visible endoleak. a second intervention was not feasible due to the high risk of occluding all of the branches, and complicated by previous 'chimney'. endotension is a possible cause of aneurysm rupture and death.

Abstract: Prolonged P-wave duration and dispersion have been reported during transient coronary artery occlusions such as angioplasty, spontaneous angina episodes and exercise induced myocardial ischemia. The association of Duke score and P-Wave Dispersion (PWD) has been poor explored. To determine the correlation of Duke score with PWD during Treadmill Exercise Testing (TET) and this sensitivity. Study population included 78 patients with suspected coronary artery disease (64 men, mean age 53.3 years) who had underwent TET. The P-wave duration was calculated in at least eight derivations before exercise and at mean 4 min of recovery by two investigators independently. Duke score, exercise capacity and Cornell voltage were calculated. PWD were found to be significantly higher at recovery (p = 0.008) than at rest and in patients with ischemia-induced than those without ischemia-induced during exercise (p = 0.003) at recovery. There was no difference about measurements of P-wave at rest and use of beta-blocker, the Cornell voltage and exercise capacity. There was no influence of age and gender. Pearson s coefficient between Duke score and PWD at recovery was 0.005. At increase of 12 msec in this measurement, the analysis with receiver operator characteristic curve provides a sensitivity of 97% and a specificity of 96% for exercise positive response and 95 and 97%, respectively, for Duke scores ≤4. There was a significant increase in PWD at recovery in patients with exercise positive test. There was correlation between PWD and Duke score with increase of accuracy of TET.

Abstract: this work aimed to estimate genetic parameters related to the fruits production in a chilli pepper diallel (capsicum baccatum var. pendulum). five chilli pepper genitors were evaluated (uenf 1616, uenf 1624, uenf 1629, uenf 1639 and uenf 1732) and its respective hybrids f1, from a complete diallel without reciprocals. the experiment was carried out in a greenhouse covered with plastic film located in area from the consortium uenf/pesagro-rio, campos dos goytacazes, rj, from july/2009 to december/2009, in a randomized block design with three repetitions and nine plants by plot. the following agronomic traits were evaluated: canopy diameter (cd); plant height (ph); days for fruiting (df); number of fruits by plant (nfp); fruit average-weight (faw); fruit dry mass (fdm); dry matter (dm); fruit length (fl); fruit diameter (fd); fruit wall thickness (pt); total soluble solids (tss); and yield per plant (prod). only the faw, fdm and prod had absence of significance concerning the three tests of sufficiency for the additive dominant model, indicating that there is homogeneity among the variances and co-variances and, consequently, lack of epistasis in the control of character. for the faw and fdm traits, the additive genetic effects were the most important ones. nevertheless, in the prod the dominance effect was the most important. it was verified a partial dominance for faw and fdm, and an over-dominance for prod. the genitors uenf 1616 and uenf 1629 were the ones which had larger concentrations of favorable alleles for the three characteristics under study.
