Health 3.0—The patient-clinician “arabic spring” in healthcare  [PDF]
Serge Gagnon, Laurent Chartier
Health (Health) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/health.2012.42008
Abstract: A growing number of citizen-patients and clinicians use Communication and Self-Managed Health Technologies (CSMHT) in their relationship. Doing so, they shift from the current paradigm of dependency to a co-responsibility paradigm in healthcare. Facing the runaway utilization of health services, we need to think “outside the box” to unblock the system. A Health 3.0 development model of governance that position patients as primary members of the clinicians’ team is presented to map this institutional transformation. At the practical level, an MD 3.0 relational model and a Citizen-Patient 3.0 behavioral profile are presented.
Do códige ao monitor: a trajetória do escrito
Chartier, Roger;
Estudos Avan?ados , 1994, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40141994000200012
Abstract: would texts, from now on, be fated to a mere electronic existence? would books, in their format known since the sixteenth century, be condemned to disappear progressively and definitely? before answering these questions we must follow the long history of books: from volumen to codex, from oriental xylography to gutenberg's invention, from the alexandrian bibliotheca to our great modern libraries, from codices to monitors. our time faces a challenge: how to use appropriately the electronic support of writing, since the meanings of a text depend very much on its material support. the extravagant happiness gleamed before the production, the consultation, the immediate and universal communication of texts in the computer's screen should be in harmony with the conscience of the role reserved for the new support: protection, conservation and divulgation of the writing heritage of manking, both in its material and symbolic character.
O Dom Quixote de Ant nio José Da Silva, as marionetes do Bairro Alto e as pris es da inquisi o
Roger Chartier
Sociologia & Antropologia , 2012,

Encoding Static and Temporal Patterns with a Bidirectional Heteroassociative Memory
Sylvain Chartier,Mounir Boukadoum
Journal of Applied Mathematics , 2011, DOI: 10.1155/2011/301204
Abstract: Brain-inspired, artificial neural network approach offers the ability to develop attractors for each pattern if feedback connections are allowed. It also exhibits great stability and adaptability with regards to noise and pattern degradation and can perform generalization tasks. In particular, the Bidirectional Associative Memory (BAM) model has shown great promise for pattern recognition for its capacity to be trained using a supervised or unsupervised scheme. This paper describes such a BAM, one that can encode patterns of real and binary values, perform multistep pattern recognition of variable-size time series and accomplish many-to-one associations. Moreover, it will be shown that the BAM can be generalized to multiple associative memories, and that it can be used to store associations from multiple sources as well. The various behaviors are the result of only topological rearrangements, and the same learning and transmission functions are kept constant throughout the models. Therefore, a consistent architecture is used for different tasks, thereby increasing its practical appeal and modeling importance. Simulations show the BAM's various capacities, by using several types of encoding and recall situations.

General Linear Models: An Integrated Approach to Statistics
Sylvain Chartier,Andrew Faulkner
Tutorials in Quantitative Methods for Psychology , 2008,
Abstract: Generally, in psychology, the various statistical analyses are taught independently from each other. As a consequence, students struggle to learn new statistical analyses, in contexts that differ from their textbooks. This paper gives a short introduction to the general linear model (GLM), in which it is showed that ANOVA (one-way, factorial, repeated measure and analysis of covariance) is simply a multiple correlation/regression analysis (MCRA). Generalizations to other cases, such as multivariate and nonlinear analysis, are also discussed. It can easily be shown that every popular linear analysis can be derived from understanding MCRA.
The k-means clustering technique: General considerations and implementation in Mathematica
Laurence Morissette,Sylvain Chartier
Tutorials in Quantitative Methods for Psychology , 2013,
Abstract: Data clustering techniques are valuable tools for researchers working with large databases of multivariate data. In this tutorial, we present a simple yet powerful one: the k-means clustering technique, through three different algorithms: the Forgy/Lloyd, algorithm, the MacQueen algorithm and the Hartigan and Wong algorithm. We then present an implementation in Mathematica and various examples of the different options available to illustrate the application of the technique.
How we look at the early childhood has changed (Translation)
Chartier, Anne-Marie
How were constructed our contemporary evidence on early childhood? Early education is not a concern as infant mortality is high and as long as the care of young children are under natural environment (family or household). On the other hand, as soon as women in urban areas must entrust their young children to third parties, institutions for young children set up, with reflections on what should be done, prohibited or encouraged for this first education. The evolution of institutions and discourses that preceded contemporary standards, hygiene, nutrition, behavior are briefly traceed. One looks how it began with a speech against working class parents to an attempt of "educating parents" by children interposed before the recognition of the principle of co-education.
