Targeting Brazilian Market through Digital Branding Strategies: The Relevance of the Cultural Dimension  [PDF]
Lilian Maria de Souza Almeida
Open Journal of Business and Management (OJBM) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojbm.2015.31004
Abstract: While Internet has been achieving its omnipresence worldwide and offering to companies the opportunity of trading in a “no-borders” market, global brands, and those aspiring to become global, face the challenge of dealing with significant cultural differences. Emergent economies account for one of the greatest opportunities for global brands interested in extending their business overseas through digital channels. Among these economies, Brazil has been receiving special focus lately as a promising consumer market. Working from a theoretical point of view through literature and simultaneously examining companies as potential paradigms, this study aims to provide suggestions for global brands interested in targeting the Brazilian market through effective cross-cultural digital branding strategies. The results are valuable insights about how to establish better communication with Brazilian consumers and also offer some guidance to help marketers to keep brands desired and admired in Brazil. It was mainly concluded that global brands should find out the right balance between a standardized and an adapted cultural approach in order to establish a trust-worthy proximity with Brazilian consumers on the digital environment.
O processo de reformula??o curricular de duas faculdades de Medicina no Brasil e na Argentina: uma abordagem comparativa
Koifman, Lilian;
Interface - Comunica??o, Saúde, Educa??o , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-32832004000100007
Abstract: this work investigates, through a comparative approach, the process of curricular reform of the courses offered by two medical schools in brazil and argentina, namely, the federal fluminense university (uff) and the university of buenos aires (uba). we avail ourselves, as our starting point, of the latin american higher education reforms and their discussions in the educational area. our objective is to identify a set of tensions that manifests itself between the particular cultures of university organization, the desire for the uniformity of globalization and the quest for bureaucratic control derived from the regionalization of the mercosur. both countries are undergoing deep reform of their educational systems, articulated with the neoliberal policies of economic reform and the reduction of the role of the state in their respective societies. however, although there are formal similarities in several respects, the results of the analysis of the brazilian and argentinean realities reveal differences that should not be neglected.
A global view of industrial logistics
Barros, Lilian;
Gest?o & Produ??o , 1997, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-530X1997000200004
Abstract: the term "industrial logistics" is a wide-reaching concept which incorporates various forms of supporting activities. in this paper, an attempt is made to provide a definition of the term which is broad enough to incorporate these various views. in a few words, there are three large categories of logistic support: (i) product support; (ii) production support, and (iii) industrial sector support. although not new as a concept, there has been a recent surge of interest about industrial logistics, for good reasons. one of them might be that the absence of explicit integrated logistic considerations may explain the widening technological gap between the developed and developing worlds.
O modelo biomédico e a reformula??o do currículo médico da Universidade Federal Fluminense
Koifman, Lilian;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702001000200003
Abstract: this work reviews the model used as basis for the curricula of medical universities in north and south america as well as in most european countries. some criticism about this model is identified on the curricular reformulation of the medicine course of universidade federal fluminense (uff). the review of the document about curricular reformulation of uff, from 1992, as well as how it compares to its previous curriculum regarding the history of the biomedical model, the curricular theory, and ludwik fleck's epistemology, measures the relevance of this reformulation as an alternative to the biomedical model of forming doctors and to the reductionism of the human being to its biological organism. the new curriculum - with a 25% raise in credit hours and the inclusion of many new practical classes since the beginning of the course - although still focusing the biological aspects, already shows a more humanist formation and intends to question the "scientifical truths".
Fish assemblage structure in a first order stream, southeastern Brazil: longitudinal distribution, seasonality, and microhabitat diversity
Casatti, Lilian;
Biota Neotropica , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-06032005000100009
Abstract: this study was carried out on a first order stream in the morro do diabo state park, southeastern brazil. three equidistant stream stretches - upper, middle, and lower - were chosen for underwater observations and fish collections that were performed in the dry (june and september 2000) and wet seasons (december 2000 and march 2001). of the 18 fish species documented, 11 were considered resident year round. phalloceros caudimaculatus, hypostomus nigromaculatus, hisonotus francirochai, trichomycterus diabolus, and hypostomus ancistroides represented 90% of the collected specimens. the highest richness and abundance occurred during the wet season. in general, the longitudinal addition of species follows the addition of microhabitats. sexually mature individuals were present throughout the year for the majority of the species, which suggests broad reproductive activity. however, given that most juveniles specimens were collected during the wet season, it is hypothesized that reproduction and survival rates must be higher during this season due to higher availability of critical resources, most probably food and shelter.
Altera??es no Código Florestal Brasileiro: impactos potenciais sobre a ictiofauna
Casatti, Lilian;
Biota Neotropica , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-06032010000400002
Abstract: in this paper is presented an analysis of possible impacts that the reduction of native vegetation, especially riparian forests, can have on the fish fauna. three sets of primary functional aspects performed by riparian forests are discussed: transferring of solar energy to the aquatic environment, trapping nutrients and sediments that enter the rivers and transfer of organic material between the terrestrial and aquatic environments. any modification which results in further loss of native vegetation, in permanent preservation areas or in protection reserves, may generate losses of species, faunal homogenization and reduction of fish biomass.
Telómeros y Telomerasa: Breve recuento de una historia iniciada por Hermann Müller y Bárbara McClintock
Colombia Médica , 2006,
Abstract: what is the nature of the biological clock that determines the cells aging? what is the way to explain the genesis of diseases associated in aging? the above are only some of the questions whose answer could be found within the modus operandi frame of the telomere-telomerase pair, which had become in objective of study for a number of science men and women since the pioneers hermann müller and barbara mcclintock, until the most recent jack szostak, elizabeth blackburn and carol greider, among others.
Petilipinnis, a new genus for Corvina grunniens Schomburgk, 1843 (Perciformes, Sciaenidae) from the Amazon and Essequibo river basins and redescription of Petilipinnis grunniens
Casatti, Lilian;
Papéis Avulsos de Zoologia (S?o Paulo) , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0031-10492002000700001
Abstract: petilipinnis, new genus, is proposed for corvina grunniens schomburgk, from the amazon and essequibo river basins. it is distinguishable from other sciaenidae genera with the exception of menticirrhus, by the presence of only one spine in the anal fin. from menticirrhus, petilipinnis differs by the morphology of the swimbladder and the number of dorsal fin soft rays. also a redescription of petilipinnis grunniens is presented.
Desafíos feministas: Nuevos tiempos: viejos desafíos. Reflexiones colectivas, escrituras horizontales
Revista Venezolana de Estudios de la Mujer , 2009,
Abstract: feminism has opened the possibility that women we build ourselves as political subjects, constructing our own path and from this perspective, it was opened a field for the diversity and plurality. however, the management of this diversity has often been smuggled in the movement as a paralyzing element or at least crippling infertile in the sense of motivating the discussion of ideas, intellectual confrontations and a theoretical and political enrichment. therefore, it is necessary to creatively combine the daily tasks with the deployment of the imagination to give a new twist to the utopias, clearing the cobwebs of thought and action, redesigning and expanding the debate, to consider a feminism to frame our common reality to define us from our uniqueness as a group.
