Análise Psicológica , 1999,
Abstract: the objective of this work was to identify the implications of police and judiciary institutions in a lynching case occurred in a brazilian small town, in which three suspects of a local homicide were executed. the methodology utilized was the case study, accomplished through content analysis of the legally instituted processes (established to clarify the occurrence) and through information collected in the media, interviews, and informal conversations with local residents. the legal evidences which would permit the identification of those involved in the lynching were blurred by a set of technical faults, untrue depositions, and negligence, which transformed the processes into supports for the impunity of the authors of the crimes, protected by the community and the authorities. the analysis of the processes pointed out the construction of a judicial truth which furthered itself from the factual truth and, furthermore, revealed the involvement of the judiciary and police institutions with local political interest. in the occurrence analyzed the judiciary abdicated of its prerogatives with respect to the monopoly of revenge and entrusted the local elite members the power to make justice. the lynching case studied constituted an instrument of social control, similar to those occurred in brazil by the end of nineteenth century.

Análise Psicológica , 2010,
Abstract: the “new fatherhood” is one of the themes in studies about men’s condition and it is characterized by the improvement of the father’s participation in children’s daily care and the expression of affection in fathers’ relationship with their children. this study aimed to investigate social representations of fatherhood and motherhood of fathers who have children’s custody and live alone with them at least for one year. eleven men separated were interviewed about the following topics: personal data, social representations of fatherhood and motherhood, marital relationship, children’s custody, daily activities and evaluation. alceste software and content analysis were used to analyze the data. social representations elements of fatherhood were: responsibility and accompaniment, affectivity and friendship, orientations and correction, material provider, equilibrium and the same as materhood. materhood’s elements involves: biological aspects, being present, affectivity and friendship, the same as fatherhood, superior to fatherhood, not leaving children and equilibrium. in these representations it is possible to identify traditional elements of fatherhood (authority and provider) and materhood (biological aspects, affectivity and superiority). at the same time, these indicates the emergence of elements related to new fatherhood (involved and caretaker father and the materhood being the same as fatherhood).
Identidade social em movimento: a comunidade japonesa na grande Vitória (ES)

Psicologia & Sociedade , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822006000200010
Abstract: the objective of the present work was to identify the social identity of japanese residents in the greater vitória area (state of espírito santo, brazil), from discourses about the group itself and its everyday relations, also verifying the existence of indications of prejudice or discriminatory treatment. twenty subjects, japanese or descendants, from both sexes, young and adult, participated in the research. data was collected through interviews that explored the following themes: dating and conjugality, aesthetic patterns, prejudice and stereotype, social identity and adaptation. the results indicated the existence of similarities and differences with respect to the identity of capixaba japanese (capixaba being the designation of people from espírito santo state), defined through comparison with the identitarian characteristics of japanese in other states.
Nasal paraganglioma: a case report and literature review
Granato, Lídio;Próspero, José Donato;Martini Filho, Dino;
International Archives of Otorhinolaryngology , 2013, DOI: 10.7162/S1809-97772013000100016
Abstract: introduction: paragangliomas are neuroendocrine tumors that most commonly originate in the adrenal gland, a type that is called pheochromocytoma; however, 5-10% of paragangliomas are extra-adrenal and may arise in any area between the neck and pelvic region along the sympathetic nervous system. those located in the head and neck comprise 3% of extra-adrenal tumors, with the majority originating in the tympanic-jugular region and carotid body. objective: to present a rare case of nasal paraganglioma and review the literature. case report: the patient was submitted to medial subtotal maxillectomy, and her clinical findings, diagnostic data, and treatment outcome were recorded. conclusion: paragangliomas are considered benign tumors, but they occasionally display a malignant character. the most important finding in this case was the need for total resection of the tumor to avoid recurrence.

Fitopatologia Brasileira , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-41582003000200006
Abstract: this research assessed the reaction of six corn (zea mays) hybrids (ag 9012, c 808, p 3041, c 901, xl 212 and x 9403), from different germplasms, to inoculation of diplodia maydis. the hybrid x 9403 had the lowest incidence of infected grains and the highest kernel yield. the hybrid xl 212 showed intermediate incidence and yield. these two materials have dent grain texture. the hybrids p 3041, ag 9012, and c 808, which have flint grain texture, showed variable reaction to d. maydis and d. macrospora in grains and had lower kernel yields than the dent grain materials. results from this research show differences among corn hybrids regarding their reactions to d. maydis. this suggests the utilization of artificial inoculation to increase disease pressure through artificial inoculation.
Os dilemas da nomea??o: prostitui??o infanto-juvenil e conceitos relacionados
Souza, Rafaela Assis de;Souza, Lídio de;
Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-166X2009000200012
Abstract: based on a brief review of the bibliography, this paper relates some of the main controversies related to the labeling of the phenomenon of female child and adolescent prostitution. in the last two decades, the phenomenon has gone through a reinterpretation, being reduced to an image of victimization and the social marginalization of sexually exploited children and adolescents. the paper examines if the homogenized picture that this image presents assumes a considerable level of stigmatization and is condensed into a stereotyped form of production of knowledge that reinforces the idea of submission in these subjects. the article looks to bring new content to the phenomenon, by presenting a psychosocial analysis that seeks to contribute to the critical discussion concerning the productions that have child and adolescent prostitution as their object of study.
Mulheres (in)subordinadas: o empoderamento feminino e suas repercuss?es nas ocorrências de violência conjugal
Cortez, Mirian Béccheri;Souza, Lídio de;
Psicologia: Teoria e Pesquisa , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-37722008000200006
Abstract: on this article, the effects of gendering conception and gender roles practices on violence (physical, psychological and sexual) against spouses are explored. four women that had registered declaration of suffering physical abuse from their partners and that still live with them were interview based on a script with search for personal data and information about marital relationship, men and women conceptions. interviews were submitted to alceste software, that was the content analysis used as a complementary method analysis. data show that gendering traditional conceptions and insubordination acts share places (such as paid work, friendships, and judgments about sexual life). these aspects, signal of women empowerment, are related to partners' aggressiveness, which were excluded of feminist debates and are trying to protect their masculinity by using violence to suppress feminine manifestations of power.

Revista Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-72992004000500022
Abstract: fungal sinusitis are divided in two big groups: (1) invasive form that is subdivided in acute and chronic; (2) noninvasive form that is subdivided in mycetoma form (fungal ball) and allergic form. the development of one of these forms depends on the immunologic relationship of the fungus to the host, as invasive form occurs in most of the cases in immunocompromised hosts. it is reported a diabetic female, with suspected fungi sinusitis with clinical invasive features at its very beginning displaying high fever and left eye involvement that lead to amaurosis. a left orbital surgical drainage followed by sinusectomy resulted in a nasocutaneous fistula, that stabilized when antifungal treatment was instituted, with no more rinorrhea, fever and periorbital inflammatory signs. as improvement progressed the nasocutaneous fistula was closed under general anesthesia. on histopatology, respiratory epithelium with inflammatory process and septated hyphae was found, that disclosed zygomycosis. after one year of no patient's symptoms, she started to be followed by facial surgeons who did a naso-orbital esthetics surgery with a high patient's satisfaction.
Angiofibroma juvenil com evolu??o atípica
Granato, Dr. Lídio;Hashimoto, Dr. Inácio Koji;
Revista Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-72992001000600019
Abstract: the authors report a 34-year-old patient presenting with an atypical juvenile angiofibroma. symptoms had begun 14 years prior to diagnosis and the tumor occupied large extra and intracranial spaces. following the last surgical intervention, the patient underwent radiotherapy and developed a nodule with benign characteristics on the face at the site of the incision. the mass was removed and recurred twice at the same site with the same histological characteristics. recurrences occurred closer together and became progressively more hemorrhagic. although histological characteristics remained benign, the clinical presentation suggested malignancy. the patient presented clinical complications and died six months after radiation therapy.

Universidad, Ciencia y Tecnología , 2006,
Abstract: in this paper a new simulation framework, based on monte carlo analysis, is proposed to allow performance studies of ook and l-ppm in the wireless indoor infrared channel. it is assumed that the impulse response of the channel is known and that it is obtained previously by simulation using a ray-tracing algorithm. in the case of ook, along with the monte carlo simulation structure, an analytic expression is developed additionally to provide direct performance evaluation of ook in the wireless channel, which takes into account the effects of noise and inter symbol interference induced by multipath propagation, proper phenomena of this kind of communication channels. the simulation results obtained with the proposed simulation structures for ook and lppm are validated in both cases by comparison against theoretical results given by the evaluation of the expressions for probability of error in the awgn ideal channel, free of inter symbol interference.
