Faith Development of the Teenager during the Sunday Evening Worship Service
HP Jansen
Acta Theologica , 2012,
Abstract: From church conversations with teenagers (born between 1974 and 1994), publications in recent times appeared worldwide and the qualitative investigation in the article is utilized. It seems there are problems in the practice of the faith formation of teenagers in the evening service. The aim of an evening service must always be that God receives all the glory and honour; therefore, the teenager‘s faith may be enriched. The article chooses for the use of the communicative approach to communicate the gospel to teenagers. The article attempts to use the empirical research method to determine which evening worship needs are experienced by teenagers. The article aims to provide the basis of an adjusted practice theory to propose an improved praxis. The article would provide guidelines for all stakeholders that are involved in the planning and execution of the liturgy of the evening worship service. The purpose of this article is to inspire new thinking and doing. The evening service liturgy should be arranged so that every teenager attending the evening service will be aware of the presence of God.
Seemingly harmless new Christian religious movements in South Africa pose serious threats of spiritual abuse
HP Pretorius
HTS Theological Studies/Teologiese Studies , 2007,
Abstract: This article argues that Citizen rights in South Africa are as well protected as the structures that ensure their protection. Strict measures are in place to clamp down on the abuse of women and children. Domestic violence is treated in a very serious light. But what about spiritual abuse that occurs in seemingly safe environments – in the church or within religious groups? What about the victims of this type of abuse? In this article the dynamics of spiritual abuse within seemingly harmless new Christian religious groups in South Africa and the effects of spiritual abuse on their victims are exposed. The article maintains that serious threats of spiritual abuse occur within some of the new Christian religious movements in South Africa despite their seemingly harmless outward appearance. It is furthermore contended that measures to curb these abuses are lacking. HTS Theological Studies Vol. 63 (1) 2007: pp. 261-281
Privatization and ‘Agentification’ of Public Services Delivery in Africa: Extent and Managerial Leadership Implications in Tanzania
HP Ngowi
Africa Development , 2008,
Abstract: The paper dwells on the very current and topical issue of changing patterns and practices of public service delivery in Africa. The author offers a critical analysis and discussion on the extent to which public service delivery is being undertaken by the private sector (privatization) and executive agencies (‘agentification’) in Tanzania and the related managerial leadership implications. The article evidences the fact that over the last decade, Tanzania has taken many and farreaching bold steps to reform its public sector and improve the performance of civil servants. Among the notable reforms is the participation of the private sector and executive agencies in the delivery of non-core public services through the private sector participation (PSP) initiative. The paper also shows that the privatization and ‘agentification’ of the public service delivery in Tanzania has a number of managerial leadership implications on the part of the public sector, the private sector and the executive agencies involved. Finally, the paper demonstrates that good managerial leadership, in the institutions involved in service delivery, is crucial if the objectives of privatization and ‘agentification’ of public service delivery are to be achieved.

Abstract: active bladder: the importance of tailoring treatment to the individual patient Review (4106) Total Article Views Authors: Drutz HP Published Date July 2011 Volume 2011:4 Pages 233 - 237 DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.2147/JMDH.S21401 Harold P Drutz Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Mount Sinai Hospital, University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada On behalf of the Specialist Advisory Group on OAB (Lake Como, Italy, June 2009) Introduction: Overactive bladder (OAB) is a prevalent and persistent condition that is often under-diagnosed and under-treated, and which frequently requires tailored treatment for successful management. Methods: This consensus opinion-based review summarizes the discussions of a group of experts in the field of OAB that were assembled to evaluate the importance of correct diagnosis and appropriate pharmacotherapy in patients with OAB. Results: A thorough diagnostic process is crucial for allowing exclusion of underlying medical issues and differentiation from genitourinary conditions other than OAB. In addition, selecting the most appropriate pharmacotherapy needs to be carefully considered in the context of each patient with OAB. In general, patients with OAB tend to be older with various comorbidities and often receiving multiple concomitant medications. Treatment decisions should take into consideration the differing potential for antimuscarinic medications to alter cognitive and cardiovascular functions, both of which may be compromised in this patient population. Conclusion: Tailoring treatment to individual patients by comprehensive patient assessment may lead to more effective management of patients with OAB, especially those receiving polypharmacy for comorbidities.
Etienne van Heerden: Mooi loop met die woorde!
HP Grebe
Tydskrif vir letterkunde , 2006,
Abstract: The literary press received Etienne van Heerden's recent novel In stede van die liefde (Instead of love; In cities of love, 2005) positively. The Afrikaans cultural organisation, the ATKV (Afrikaanse Taal- en Kultuurvereniging), for instance awarded the novel its 2005 prize for excellent popular prose. Nonetheless, not all is what it seems. Some literary critics rather hesitantly suggested that Van Heerden's narration and style were less fluent than his previous novels. This article aims to uncover the reasons for these reservations by looking into the author's use of the Afrikaans language. The paper suggests that the novel could have been edited more thoroughly. The numerous language errors and idiosyncrasies in the text mar what should have been a fascinating reading experience.

Neuropathic Pain - Current Concepts
HP Meyer
South African Family Practice , 2008,
Abstract: Neuropathic pain (NP) represents a common and diverse group of disorders with peripheral and/or central nervous system damage or dysfunction. Many patients report intractable and severe pain that is resistant to simple analgesics. The diagnosis of NP is primarily based on clinical evaluation rather than diagnostic tests. Distinct pain qualities in the patient's history and findings on clinical examination, such as hyperalgesia and other sensory findings in an area correlating with the patient's pain pattern are important in diagnosis. Various screening tools may assist in the diagnosis of NP. A number of pathophysiological mechanisms have been identified in NP, including sodium- and calcium-channel upregulation and spinal cord hyperexcitability (central sensitisation).Appropriate management includes evaluation of the functional impact of NP, patient education and reassurance. A multi-model biopsychosocial approach that includes various nonpharmacological modalities is recommended. Appropriate pharmacological management is based on evidence-based recommendations that provide guidance for selecting first-, second- and third-line medications, alone or in combination. It is hoped that future treatment advances will improve the care of patients who live with NP. South African Family Practice Vol. 50 (3) 2008: pp. 40-49
Poststroke-Depression: Diagnostik, Epidemiologie, Verlauf und tiopathogenese
Kapfhammer HP

Kapfhammer HP
Journal für Neurologie, Neurochirurgie und Psychiatrie , 2004,
Abstract: Alkoholismus und Depression gehen überzuf llig miteinander einher.
