Revista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de S?o Paulo , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0036-46652001000400001
Abstract: of 156 cases of histoplasmosis observed in the state of rio grande do sul (brazil), during a 21-year period (1978-1999) 137 were included in this study. sixty-seven per cent of the patients had hematogeneous disseminated histoplasmosis, 24% had a self-limited syndrome (acute pulmonary histoplasmosis, histoplasmoma or primary pulmonary lymph node complex), and 9 per cent had chronic pulmonary histoplasmosis. clinical, mycological, and epidemiological data were reviewed and commented.

Abstract: A globaliza o trouxe consigo diversos dilemas à sociedade e a economia.

Abstract: cranial ct scans of eleven immunocompetent children with central nervous system (cns) infection due to cryptococcus neoformans var. gattii were retrospectively reviewed. these children had an average age of 8.8 years and positive culture for c. n. var. gattii in cerebrospinal fluid. the most common signs and symptoms were headache, fever, nuchal rigidity, nausea and vomiting. no normal cranial ct was detected in any patient. hypodense nodules were observed in all patients . the remaining scan abnormalities were as follows: nine had diffuse atrophy, six had hydrocephalus, and five had hydrocephalus coexistent with diffuse atrophy.

Role of van der Waals bonding in layered oxide: Bulk vanadium pentoxide

Physics , 2010,
Abstract: Sparse matter is characterized by regions with low electron density and its understanding calls for methods to accurately calculate both the van der Waals (vdW) interactions and other bonding. Here we present a first-principles density functional theory (DFT) study of a layered oxide (V2O5) bulk structure which shows charge voids in between the layers and we highlight the role of the vdW forces in building up material cohesion. The result of previous first-principles studies involving semilocal approximations to the exchange-correlation functional in DFT gave results in good agreement with experiments for the two in-plane lattice parameters of the unit cell but overestimated the parameter for the stacking direction. To recover the third parameter we include the nonlocal (dispersive) vdW interactions through the vdW-DF method [Dion et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 92, 246401 (2004)] testing also various choices of exchange flavors. We find that the transferable first-principle vdW-DF calculations stabilizes the bulk structure. The vdW-DF method gives results in fairly good agreement with experiments for all three lattice parameters.
Vanadium pentoxide (V2O5): a van der Waals density functional study

Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1016/j.cpc.2010.12.036
Abstract: The past few years has brought renewed focus on the physics behind the class of materials characterized by long-range interactions and wide regions of low electron density, sparse matter. There is now much work on developing the appropriate algorithms and codes able to correctly describe this class of materials within a parameter-free quantum physical description. In particular, van der Waals (vdW) forces play a major role in building up material cohesion in sparse matter. This work presents an application to the vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) bulk structure of two versions of the vdW-DF method, a first-principles procedure for the inclusion of vdW interactions in the context of density functional theory (DFT). In addition to showing improvement compared to traditional semilocal calculations of DFT, we discuss the choice of various exchange functionals and point out issues that may arise when treating systems with large amounts of vacuum.
Knowledge of physical education teachers about emergency management of tooth avulsion

Stomatos , 2011,
Abstract: A great number of traumatic dental injuries occur at school, during sports-related activities. However, physical education teachers are often not prepared to provide emergency management of dental trauma in general and of tooth avulsion in particular. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge of emergency management of tooth avulsion among physical education teachers at public and private schools of a city in southern Brazil. A questionnaire covering personal and professional information and eight multiple-choice questions to assess knowledge of emergency management of tooth avulsion was sent to 217 physical education teachers. Of a total of 217 questionnaires distributed, 102 returned. Only 23.5% of the teachers had received prior information on dental trauma. When asked about the fi rst action to be taken if faced with an avulsed tooth, only 12.7% informed they would attempt to replant the tooth. Fifty two teachers (51%) were not aware of the optimum extraoral time. Signifi cant differences were found between teachers who had and who had not received prior information with regard to adequate transport medium and adequate time for replantation (chi-square, p = 0.03 and p = 0.02, respectively). There is a general lack of knowledge of emergency management of avulsed teeth among physical education teachers, pointing to an urgent need to implement regular, continuing education so as to increase the level of knowledge and improve prognosis of this important traumatic dental injury.
Integra??o do sistema de gest?o ambiental no sistema de gest?o de qualidade em uma indústria de confec??es

Abstract: integrating management systems in an organization has been a strategy adopted for some companies, especially with respect to quality and environment management systems. the objective of this study is to present the structure of the environment management system based on the quality management system of an apparel company in order to identify the integrated management system difficulties and facilities. the research was carried out in a company in the feminine clothing segment. this company was chosen because it was at the end of the process for achieving iso 9001 certification. the present study was conducted using action research strategy. the results are presented based on the implementation of the requirements of both norms, the analysis of what features of the qms were incorporated into the ems, what was integrated, and what did not exert any influence. the conclusions highlight the advantages and disadvantages of this integration and the need to evaluate the particularities every company and system of management.
A gest?o ambiental em institui??es de ensino superior: modelo para implanta??o em campus universitário

Abstract: in the last few years, sustainable development and environmental management have become one of the main interests of higher-education institutions. this has been revealed mainly by the educational approach on environmental management and the practical examples incorporated in campi operation. the present work shows a systematization of procedures and a model whose purpose it is to implement an adapted environmental management system (ems) at a university campus, making it possible for a higher-education institution to control and prevent environmental impacts and adjust to legislation and regulations, even in the infrastructure planning phase. the proposal is based on pdca tools and on a comprehensive survey of national and international benchmarks for sustainable university campi. the examples presented indicate isolated actions in the surveyed universities, most of them implemented when the campus is already functioning. this situation shows a growing concern regarding the adaptation of universities in search of sustainable development, not only regarding educational aspects, but also regarding environmentally correct practices.
