Seroprevalence of Mycoplasma bovis Infection in Dairy Cows in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam  [PDF]

Abstract: A cross-sectional study was carried out to investigate the seroprevalence of M. bovis. A total of 606 serum samples were randomly collected from dairy cows in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Commercial ELISA kit was used for detection of antibody to M. bovis. The results indicated that overall seroprevalence was 80.2% (486/606). There were no significant differences between regions or age categories (P > 0.05). Degree of infection to M. bovis commonly distributed at positive degree 1 (68.5%) and 2 (24.1%). Seroprevalence at highest positive degree 4 were found in District 9, District 12 and Thu Duc (6.7%, 6.3% and 1.6%, respectively). This study is the first report of seroprevalence of M. bovis in Vietnam. The results suggested that M. bovis was spreading among dairy cow populations although degree of positivity was low. It should be considered as a high risk pathogen to dairy cows in Vietnam.

Abstract: A single-electron transistor (SET) in a magnetic field irradiated with microwaves is studied theoretically in non-equilibrium Kondo regime. The two fold effect of frequency--\Omega--microwaves is considered as follows: the oscillations in the voltage with frequency \Omega and in the coupling parameters with frequency \Omega/p (p\in\mathbb{N}). We describe the system by the Kondo model at a specific point in the Toulouse limit. A non-perturbative technique is proposed, namely, the non-equilibrium Green's functions and physical observables are averaged over a period of 2\pi p/\Omega. When the microwave irradiation is considered affecting only the voltage, one sees the Kondo satellites as stated in the previous studies. Moreover, the features of the differential conductance and magnetic susceptibility of a SET become richer when the Kondo couplings are considered oscillating on time. We obtain the satellite peak splitting. It explains the possibilities one can find in experimental results that the distance between peaks, which appear in the differential conductance -- magnetic amplitude characteristics G(H) or in the differential conductance -- dc voltage characteristics G(V_{dc}), can be smaller than \hbar\Omega.

Lagrangian Duality based Algorithms in Online Scheduling

Abstract: We consider Lagrangian duality based approaches to design and analyze algorithms for online energy-efficient scheduling. First, we present a primal-dual framework. Our approach makes use of the Lagrangian weak duality and convexity to derive dual programs for problems which could be formulated as convex assignment problems. The duals have intuitive structures as the ones in linear programming. The constraints of the duals explicitly indicate the online decisions and naturally lead to competitive algorithms. Second, we use a dual-fitting approach, which also based on the weak duality, to study problems which are unlikely to admit convex relaxations. Through the analysis, we show an interesting feature in which primal-dual gives idea for designing algorithms while the analysis is done by dual-fitting. We illustrate the advantages and the flexibility of the approaches through problems in different setting: from single machine to unrelated machine environments, from typical competitive analysis to the one with resource augmentation, from convex relaxations to non-convex relaxations.
XPath Whole Query Optimization

Abstract: Previous work reports about SXSI, a fast XPath engine which executes tree automata over compressed XML indexes. Here, reasons are investigated why SXSI is so fast. It is shown that tree automata can be used as a general framework for fine grained XML query optimization. We define the "relevant nodes" of a query as those nodes that a minimal automaton must touch in order to answer the query. This notion allows to skip many subtrees during execution, and, with the help of particular tree indexes, even allows to skip internal nodes of the tree. We efficiently approximate runs over relevant nodes by means of on-the-fly removal of alternation and non-determinism of (alternating) tree automata. We also introduce many implementation techniques which allows us to efficiently evaluate tree automata, even in the absence of special indexes. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate the impact of the different optimization techniques.

Routing Engine Architecture for Next Generation Routers: Evolutional Trends

Abstract: The routing engine is the essential part of a router. As a software component, the routing engine is used to control the router activities and to build the data forwarding table. Along with the hardware evolution, several software generations for routing engines have been experienced. In this paper, we first review the different routing engine architectures over the time and their main components. In some previous papers, we have investigated new directions for routing engine development for next generation routers, where specific distributed architectures have been proposed for several routing protocols. Taking into account the increasing traffic in the core networks, we next propose a framework integrating all specific distributed routing protocol architectures in order to significantly improve the scalability of the next generation routers. Bottlenecks are reduced, resulting in improving both the overall performance and the resiliency in the presence of faults. The scalability of the proposed distributed framework is estimated with respect to each routing protocol.
