Density and Strength of Mortar Made with the Mixture of Wood Ash, Crushed Gneiss and River Sand as Fine Aggregate  [PDF]

Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to study the feasibility of using wood bottom ash to partially replace natural fine aggregate or crushed gneiss sand in the manufacturing of mortars. The experiment uses wood ash as fine aggregates, which passes through 5 mm sieve, in proportions of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% by weight to replace partially river sand and crushed gneiss, and the both sand of the same size as the aggregate respectively. Experimental results show that density of mortar and the compressive strength of mortar decrease globally with the increase in wood ash content. At 56 days, and for all replacements with wood ash, compressive strengths values of mortar obtained with the mixture of wood ash and river sand is greater than 20 MPa, which is not the case for mortar made with crushed gneiss and wood ash. Moreover, for 5% of replacement with wood ash, compressive strengths of mortar obtained with the mixture of wood ash and river sand and the mixture of wood ash and crushed gneiss are respectively 37 MPa and 32 MPa at 56 days. These values satisfied the strength requirements. Hence, 5% replacement of crushed gneiss with wood ash is suggested and could be benefit for mortar. In addition, the replacement of sand by wood ash is preferable with river sand which contains fewer fines than crushed gneiss. The compressive strength of mortar with 25% wood ash + river sand could be suitable.
Modern classification of neoplasms: reconciling differences between morphologic and molecular approaches

Abstract: The Developmental Lineage Classification and Taxonomy of Neoplasms groups neoplasms by their embryologic origin. The putative value of this classification is based on the expectation that tumors of a common developmental lineage will share common metabolic pathways and common responses to drugs that target these pathways. The purpose of this manuscript is to show that grouping tumors according to their developmental lineage can reconcile certain fundamental discrepancies resulting from morphologic and molecular approaches to neoplasm classification.In this study, six issues in tumor classification are described that exemplify the growing rift between morphologic and molecular approaches to tumor classification: 1) the morphologic separation between epithelial and non-epithelial tumors; 2) the grouping of tumors based on shared cellular functions; 3) the distinction between germ cell tumors and pluripotent tumors of non-germ cell origin; 4) the distinction between tumors that have lost their differentiation and tumors that arise from uncommitted stem cells; 5) the molecular properties shared by morphologically disparate tumors that have a common developmental lineage, and 6) the problem of re-classifying morphologically identical but clinically distinct subsets of tumors. The discussion of these issues in the context of describing different methods of tumor classification is intended to underscore the clinical value of a robust tumor classification.A classification of neoplasms should guide the rational design and selection of a new generation of cancer medications targeted to metabolic pathways. Abstract: this article presents the main theoretical and political perspectives, as well as the herstory, of the oldest french-speaking scientific feminist review, nouvelles questions féministes, which has been created 22 years ago by simone de beauvoir and others. one of the main distinctive point of this review, is its will to unite theoretical quality and an activist, political position, embedded in a very firm radical, materialist and anti-essentialist perspective. in the last 22 years, nouvelles questions féministes published articles which have been critical for the feminist movement. in the midst of the "backlash 90ies", the review started facing hard times, with no institucional backing, and almost had to close down. but it started a new life in 2001 - with the same political perspective - , in the hands of a dynamic group based at the lausanne university.

Abstract: [Fran ais] Cette communication présente les résultats d’une expérimentation menée dans le cadre d’un cours de communication à des étudiants de premier cycle en ingénierie. à partir d’une thématique portant sur la communication et l’ingénierie, chaque équipe d’étudiants a réalisé un document audiovisuel sur support cédérom comportant des entrevues avec des ingénieurs. Cette expérimentation constitue une démarche d’appropriation du savoir par les étudiants. Les étudiants devenant acteurs de leur propre formation par une démarche active de recherche et de construction de l’information, ils se sentent davantage impliqués dans ce projet. Ce projet met donc en évidence les notions de stimulation, de construit de motivation et d’intégration des nouvelles technologies de l’information et de la communication à l’enseignement. [English] This paper presents the results of an experiment conducted as part of a communication course for engineering undergraduate students. Starting from a theme of communication and engineering, each group of students produced an audiovisual document on CD-ROM, containing interviews with engineers. The experiment constitutes an approach to knowledge appropriation by students. When students play a role in their own education through an active process of researching and constructing information, they feel more involved in the project. The project therefore emphasizes the notions of stimulation, motivation, and the integration of new technologies (NICT) in learning.

The talk is segmented into a discussion of the decay-rates and of the energy-spectra and correlations. The impact on various scenarios of "new physics" is briefly mentioned; left-right symmetric models are discussed in more detail and the informations gained from the considered experiments is compared to those from other sources.
